[GAME NEWS] The Passing of a Joke

For the past 13 years, the gamers of the world have had a joke that was theirs and theirs alone.  It was the game of all games, the original bit of vaporware.  Of course, we all know this game as Duke Nukem Forever.  Long has DNF stood as the standard of outlandishly long development time (ex.: "Damn, they delayed *insert game here* again!  At this rate, it'll be published shortly before DNF!").  You all know of what I speak.

However, today a truly great joke has passed into legend.  Today, it was announced that 3D Realms, developer of the Duke Nukem series, has been shut down.  Thirteen years we have laughed and jeered at the hints and screenshots and teaser trailers that have invariably cropped up.  No more.  Duke, it looks like you're out of [naughty word synonymous with donkey] to kick and bubble gum to chew.  You've gone to that Big Strip Club in the Sky.  Rest in peace, good buddy.

Update: Apogee Software and Deep Silver have issued a statement to Shacknews, confirming that the situation at 3D Realms has not affected the development of Frontline Games' upcoming handheld Duke Nukem Trilogy.

"Deep Silver and Apogee Software are not affected by the situation at 3D Realms," a representative for the companies told us. "Development on the Duke Nukem Trilogy is continuing as planned."
