Young as he was, Rand was taller that most men, but Lan stood just as tall and more heavily muscled, if not quite so broad in the shoulders.

tGH Chp 1

Anyone know of comparisons to Lan?  That may help with comparisons to Rand (and vice versa).  Of course, at this point Rand is still barely out of the Two Rivers so he has a bit more growing to do...

That is what Thom Merrlin(sp?) said and I would agree.  I took that description to mean that Rand was just as tall as Lan, broader in the shoulders and already heavily muscled since Lan is said to be more so.  I always put Rand at 6.6 in the beginning and reaching 6.8 towards the end of the series.  I also agree that Rand is average for Aielmen.

I don't remember exact quotes but Mat is described as almost a full head shorter, and Perrin is described as half a head shorter then Rand.

Since Rand is often described as "taller then most men" west of the Dragonwall, and that most of the main male characters (and some minor as well like Van Luca) are described as tall, I would put Galad and Gawyne(sp?) as tall as Perrin, with Logain in between since Rand is described in COT(I think) as slightly taller.  I know Egwene(I think it was her) said Gawyne was of size with Rand but I thought she was referring to his build. If I had to make a list of the main human characters (including some minor) according to height it would look like this:

Bail

Gaul

Rand, Lan, Rhuarc (Lan and Rhurac are fully grown men so if Rand is still growing then he could be taller then Lan and maybe Rhurac in the end)

Logain

Perrin, Gawyne, Galad, Van Luca, maybe Taim

Maybe Thom Merrlin

Mat

Tam

As far as female characters go, Aviendha is described as a full head shorter then Rand and I think she is also described as taller then Elayne, who is a head shorter then Gawyne but taller then Egwene.  Min is slightly taller then Moraine and Nynaeve, who is the same height as Egwene, who is slightly taller then Moraine. I know Tuon is also very short and that Faile is also tall for a girl but I can't remember the details of either. So their list would look like this:

Aviendah

Elayne, Faile

Min

Egwene, Nynaeve

Moiraine

Tuon

I love how RJ makes you pay attention to descriptions but it can be very confusing, especially establishing measurements like "head and shoulders" or "a head" taller/shorter.  I never read "head and neck" so I am assuming the neck is included in a "full head".  Also, is the deltoid included in "head & shoulders".  Nynaeve is described as coming up to Mat's shoulders but does that mean just below the deltoid, or where the humerus meets the clavicle? Moiraine is described as just barely as high as Rands chest, does that mean she comes up to his thorax which would be just below or at his nipples? Or, does she come up to his sternum (breast bone)?  ??? :-\

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.
