2008 has finished, and the Band of the Red Hand, DM's travel and music ORG, will be hosting a knock out competition to find out what DM's favourite song from the 16 best selling singles of 2008. Each day, 2 songs will be posted, along with a link so you can listen to the song if you do not know it, and all you have to do is post which is your favourite song of the two. After a day, the votes will be counted, and the winning song will progress to the next round, until we only have 1 song left as the winner at the end of the competition.

It's very simple, so I look forward to seeing you getting involved! And I apologise for any rubbish songs - blame those people who bought the songs! lol!

Please Note: All songs are the top 16 songs from the UK.

The M-G keeps things off with a vote for Duffy and Mercy. The other song really isn't my cup of tea.

Actually.. To me these two were very close. Ne-yo sports a nifty chapeau and sits a mean motor scooter.. But DUFFYS' retro soul Mercy gets my vote

I concur Manny.  This was a close decision.  I like the older feel of Duffy, but Ne-yo's smooth vocals with the mildly tempoed beat flow well.

Hmmm....

Old school vs New school in a pair of 20 somethin's

I will give this one to Duffy.

I forgot to do this at work as I had to go out at lunch and do a few things.

Anyway, Duffy progresses with a 3-0 victory.

This is quite a tough one. I'm not a great fan of reality TV show made musicians, like both of these are. However, Leona Lewis is about the only one I like. However, I do prefer the Snow Patrol original of Run.

The good thing about the song Hero is that it is rasing money for our British troops - a worthy cause. I like the song, but feel something is missing.

Therefore, my vote goes to Leona Lewis and Run.

Good news for Leona Lewis fans, as she progresses to Round 2 with a 4-1 win over the X-Factor Finalists.

Tie 3 is now going up.

Not a difficult choice for me here. I'd much rather listen to the Kings of Leon over Flo Rida on a day to day basis.

Ok, again I don't like either of them.  Since the second genre is something I can't stand listening to, I'll go with Kings of Leon

King Leon? Ya mean,,like King Ralph? .. Yeah? Ok.. well, I can see these dudes in Converse All Stars, a bowling shirt an' a tiara..

And I've heard quite enough of Shawty' hittin' da' flo... dang no taste but in their mouth granddaughters..

So I suppose... King Leon ... Huh? oh OF Leon... riiiiiiight.... So like.. where's Leon? ???

Normally I am resistant to Hip Hop when compared to rock.....but I knew this song before I ever knew the title or artist.

(Plus it NEVER fails to get dancers on the floor.  Even at a Company Christmas party where the average guest age was 65.)  ;D

FLO RIDA

Hmmmmm.. Bass Huntin' fashions seem to have changed drastically since my last outing. Guess I better drag my sorry self to the Bass Master's store! DANG... my credit card did NOT need that :-\

Oh Jeez... Looks like BeYo is practicing her OutKast acting chops. I guess a self promoting/aggrandizing movie is in the works for her too. At least Andre 3000 has a bit of talent..

If them boys is huntin n'catchin' bass with them get-ups I'm all for it... BassHunter

I normally like Beyonce's songs, but that is a complete flop in my eyes.

My vote therefore goes to Basshunter. A good song for a club, but not my song of the year for club anthems - that goes to the Utah Saints and Something Good '08. Whenever I heard it, it got me jigging!
