Ok i might be nitpicking at this one :-

    Logain, laughing, stepped across something on the ground and mounted a black stone; when she looked down, she thought it was Rand's body he had stepped over, laid out on a funeral bier with his hands crossed at his breast, but when she touched his face, it broke apart like a paper puppet.

 

I don't know ifs its been mentioned but what i found most interesting about this is the use of the word hands since now Rand only has one, also the fact that before this it has alreday been foreshadowed that he would lose a hand(cant remember the exact quote, but something about if he lost his hand he would carry on as if it were someone else hand) so based on this im quite open to the possibity that its Taim shes refering to as being the person on the funeral bier.

 

Any thoughts? This may have already been chewed on and spat out so apologies if i'm pulling up a used bone :)

Sounds good.  Mazrim Taim's face breaking apart at a touch, just like an illusion that lead to Alavarin seeing someone's brown and black clothes... nah

Yeah i was thinking that it was Rand who created the Black Tower and is the face of it so too speak but the M'hal is Taim, so Logain would kill the real power in the Black Tower who was doing things for the shadow under the illusion of doing it for the DR, i think that makes sense.

That's an interesting and fascinating interpretation.  Taim certainly has been styling himself as the real Dragon Reborn, with his coat and the tone of his letters.  Since Rand is never at the Black Tower, he could take it to the next step, and be undone because he doesn't know Rand is handless.

That's what I think will happen.

 

Logain returns to the BT to find 'Rand' giving a speech to the Asha'man - see's that 'Rand' has 2 hands, puts 2 and 2 together and (after a battle perhaps between the BT factions) kills Taim, reveals the truth, and gathers the surviving Asha'man for Tarmon Gaidon.

It says "she thought it was Rand"; Egwene was not certain.

From context, it seems the dead person is someone who looks like Rand; maybe Taim.

 

Logain's laughing could mean almost anything.  Killing Taim could be one possibility, finding Taim dead could be another; either case would mean Logain taking over the Black Tower.

Just because I like to be contrary on occasion  ;), I'd like to throw in my hat on who the "looked like Rand's body" could be.

 

Did we forget that Slayer looks like Rand's uncle??  It could be feasible for it to be his body Logain steps over.

Actually, Slayer is a combination: Luc (Rand's/Galad's uncle) & Isam (Lan's cousin)
