It seems i've done it again

Missed some major information.

 

So I've literally (last night) just finished book 10 for what may as well be the first time. Egwene under the control of WT AS.

 

But... I dont understand what she was doing over there anyway!? The last chapter confused me, I think I have missed some information / a conversation somewhere.

 

It all started when Tarna's report said that Nicola had escaped/run away. Presumably now i'm thinking it was Nicola who alerted Elaida's AS that 'someone' was coming? (Egwene's last thought was that she had been betrayed, but by whom? I think either Nicola or Halima/Aran'gar told Mesaana).

 

However the entire chapter talks about Bode having to replace Nicola and how 'she's capable of it' etc. Capable of what? What plan had been hatched and when was it hatched? I have missed it, I think. Egwene obviously thinks it's better for her to do it / keep Bode out of danger, which may or may not have been wise.

 

What was the plan, what was Bode/Egwene going to do when they got to the island?

The plan was to turn the chains to the harbor into cuendillar. Bode was the quickest at it besides Egwene, but Bode was still ridiculously slow compared to Egwene's instantaneous cuendillar.

OH! It did say about her flashing the chains white, and I do know there have been many many chapters mentioning them pracicing turning things to cuendillar in Salidar/their camp.

 

Was I told this, or was I just supposed to put two and two together!?

I think it was pretty obvious, with the beginning of the book and the end. But maybe a little bit of both?

The clue is dropped when Egwene is watching the making of cuendillar, and we get a description of what happens when you attempt to do more than one piece, how they are fused together. That is why turning the harbour chains into cuendillar can stop river traffic, you have one huge indestructible piece of cuendillar, rather than a chain made of separate pieces.

I think it's only in book 11 that it tells you that they're cuendillar so in book 10 you have to guess. In book 11 they ask what she had done and how to undo what was done to the harbor and then Egwene says that they can't, that they're made of cuendillar, so you were supposed to figure it out in book 10 before it was handed to you in book 11.

Cuendillar can only be made out of iron; it's been specified that the harbor chains were already iron.  Turn iron white, bam, cuendillar.
