Watchmen - Super Fast Mafia!!! (Game Over!)

Wow did I get lucky? or did the Mafia forget to send their nightactions in?  :P

 

So, what did the finders find?

I have not viewed Tigara or Catina, but others have gotten innocent readings on them.

did anyone else notice the counter next to day 5 looks like a clock and has been counting down since we started this game?  it began as 120:00:00 which could be 120 minutes, or two hours or i dont know.  watchmen and clocks? is there a clock in the watchmen comics?  how come the only one who got a mafia viewing was jelly and now she is dead and so is the mafia guy that she read?  this game is giving me a headache and it looks like everyone is innocent but the game is not over yet.

Well, people seem to be laying low and the countdown timer is running out.  I don't know what will happen, but I'm going to vote for [glow=red,2,300]Verbal[/glow].  Yes, I got an innocent reading earlier in the game, but it is possible that your alignment is only mafia after Moloch's death, or if you send in a Night Action or something.  Alternatively, Tigara could be lying.  Either way, we need more activity.

Now I'm starting to think that there are weird things going on here.  I didn't view Danya last night because I was almost positive she's innocent due to the failed NK scene.  Therefore, I viewed Hybrid instead....and got this:

This is not who you revealed to be, Hybrid.  Night Owl II is the name I got for Krugster when I viewed him days ago.  What the heck is going on?

Aha.  Hybrid, your role states that people viewing you can get a read on the people you view that Night.  So I view you and get this for Krugster?  Or is this your alignment, and I just get Krugster's name?  Do you have any more info on your special ability?

 

This totally is confusing me.  I know I'm not mafia, but why am I getting 2 different reads, 1 innocent and 1 mafia, for the same person?  If I was mafia, then why haven't there been NKs?  I would have been killing like there's no tomorrow.  But I'm not mafia and I have no ability other than getting name and role, and now name, role, and alignment.  :-\

Your unique mask also has an added property, your mask is a Alignment Mimic.  Anyone targeting you will actually get a read on the player that you target for your finding.  This could be an advantage or a hindrance, depending on how you use it.

Day 5 Conclusion - 00:00:00!!

 

"Something very fishy is going on here," growls Hybrid, "I know that I am not mafia, but I am pretty sure that one of you are!"

 

"Well, I am definately the healer," says Danya, "but I think that maybe Dragon was protecting his mafia Godfather!"  Catina continues to snooze in the corner.  

 

"I got a read on Verbal last night," Tigara says, "and it suggests that Verbal is mafia!  What have you got to say about that, Verb?......Verb?"

 

"Where did he go?" askes Krugster.

 

MEANWHILE.....in a secret mountain lair thousands of miles away....

 

Sitting in a large, throne like chair, gazing at multiple high definition monitors, sits a dark shadowy figure who until today, had been calling himself the Watchmaker.  "You're late, Joe" he growls.

 

"Look, pal, Joe Biden is never late," growls the Vice President, "he arrives precicely when he means to!"  With a flash of his pearly white smile, Biden staggers to the bar and begins to fix himself a cup of coffee.  "Wow, this is nice Kobayashi Porcelin you got here, Watchmaker...."

 

"Joe, he's making his speech now," exclaimed the figure, "and you may now call me.....Verbal!"  

 

"Well, Verbal," growls the Vice President, "you got any scotch to go with my coffee?"

 

* * * *

 

"...and I assure all my fellow Americans that we will put an end to this ugly American image that has plagued this great nation.  Our allies in France, Russia, Iran, North Korea, and Afghanistan will join with us in an effort to unite the world into one, peaceful nation.  As President of the United States, I give you my word that we will never suffer as ill a fate as 9/11...."

 

Suddenly, as if the phrase "9/11" triggered something beneath the podium, President Barack Obama looked down at the floor where he had heard a faint chirp of electronics.  His first thought was that someone's car alarm had gone off, but then he soon realised that something had just triggered beneath his feet.  The last thought he would ever have (in this game of course) was "Et Tu, Biden?"

 

The thick, blinding flash of light could be seen for miles as New York City was disintigrated by the bomb left by Verbal.  Within hours, President Joe Biden used his executive power to declare martial law and immediately reinstated all Masks to be sworn in as his elite global fighting force.  Although there was little evidence, the furious citizens of the United States were quick to blame Afghanistan for the destruction of the Big Apple and had little problem with our own counterstrike.  Years of negotiations vaporised within minutes and the entire Middle East fell to United States control.  

 

President Biden's thirst for blood grew as nation upon nation was taken over.  The US Senate was dismantled for a surpreme global empire, with Biden as its Emperor.  Moving the capital city of the American Empire to Jeruselem, it was revealed that Biden was the right hand of an even more sinister and ruthless being.....Ozymandius (or Verbal to you) who had planned to control the entire world.

 

So, um.....Verbal, Ozymandius, the Mafia Godfather, has won the game by surviving Day 5.  

 

Ok gang, I appreciate everyone playing and I apologize if I kinda got a little sidetracked towards the end.  School is really starting to take its toll on me but I hoped everyone enjoyed the game.  Next post will detail everyone's role and what was truly going on.

Answers to what was going on:

 

Ok, first I'd like to again thank everyone for playing.  This was kind of an experimental game that I hadn't completely figured out yet, but it seemed to work very well.  Basically, most everyone was either a Finder, Healer, or Mafia....here is a breakdown:

 

Verbal was Ozymandius, the Mafia Godfather.  His win condition was simply to survive through Day 5, or when the Doomsday Clock reached 00:00:00.  Hybrid gets props for bringing up the clock early on, but this wasn't a game where the mafia needed to kill off innocents rather just survive.  

 

Dragon21 was Moloch the Mystic, Mafia Zealot.  Basically, Dragon21 was the only other mafia but he had two very vital abilities.  First of all, as long as he was in play, Verbal would be read as innocent.  As soon as he died, Verbal was exposed and open to a true read.  His other power was that he could corrupt the night action of one player per night, turning their Find or Heal into a Night Kill. His win condition was like Verbals to survive to Day 5.  

 

Tigara was Silk Spectre, Innocent Finder.

 

Jelly was Sally Jupiter, Innocent Finder.

 

Krugster was Night Owl II, Innocent Finder.  

 

Catina Sedai was Captain Metro, Innocent Finder.

 

Hybrid was Rorsharch, Innocent Finder.  He had one other interesting ability in that anyone targeting him would actually get a read on the player he was reading.  This was a small clue that there may be more than one finder, but it also worked for any targeting, like Moloch or Danya's night actions.  

 

Danya was Dr. Manhattan, the Innocent Healer.  Danya was immune to night kills but also could heal one other person each night.  Dragon had tainted Tigara's night action and Tigara targeted Danya, but Danya was immune to the night kill, thats why she got sick but was ok.  

 

Aside from Danya, Dragon, and Verbal, everyone else was a regular finder and all innocent win conditions were simply to elimenate the non-innocents, which were Verbal and Dragon.  I wanted to see if folks began to figure out that there wasn't just one finder and then speculate if this was one of those Psycho Cop, Paranoid Cop, Naive Cop games.  I tried to make the game balanced in that once everyone figured out what was going on, then the odds of Verbal and Dragon making it to Day 5 would be slim.

 

I thought it would be an interesting twist when folks began to realise that no lynches and no night kills actually were helping the mafia not the innocent. Once Dragon was lynched, there would be no night kills anymore.  

 

I hope everyone enjoyed the game.  It was pretty close in that you guys were onto Verbal there in the end, but it was too late.  Thanks for playing everyone!  :)

Good game, everyone.  Unfortunately, there wasn't enough activity or Verbal would have been toast.  :P  Ah well.  It was an interesting setup, and I must admit that I was tempted to vote Verbal during Day 2 or whenever (Mynd, you know why ;)).

Thanks again everyone, and a bazillion points to everyone for playing.  I have to confess that Hybrid's familiarity with Watchmen might have cost Verbal an early defeat if he had not initially been viewed as innocent.  Not to spoil anything about the Watchmen mythology but revealing as Oz would be like revealing as Magneto in an X-Men game....although I understand that the latter had been done successfully before.

Yeah, that was a "pound the desk with my head" moment.  I totally slipped, and I thought you had me.  I'm thinking that if anybody else was too familiar with Watchmen that I would be in trouble.  Problem was, I didn't know who to false reveal as!!!!  Knowing my luck, I would have picked an existing character, lol.  So I decided on a distortion of the truth instead.

Originally, I had designed this game for 16 players, so I had all the old Minutemen in play, but everyone was still a finder.  Hybrid was the only finder who had an extra attribute in that his mask would reflect who he was targeting.  I also had toyed with the idea that Danya's Healing power would become corrupted at some point and turn into a NK unbeknowst to her; but I already had that power for Dragon.
