As to this morning Brandon Sanderson's AMOL first draft meter has reached 50%.  I know this is only 50% of his original estimate but its still worth noting.

Is this bored going to be continually inundated by people who load up his webpage every day and get all excited (I'd use another phrase if this wasn't a PG-13 board) about an up-tick in the percentage until the book is released? That's not going to be fun.

 

Note to people. Threads like these do not further any type of discussion. They just perpetuate a long list of threads which puke out the numbers which people can all just go check up on themselves. Stop making these threads.

Come off it dude, you are over reacting.  First off there really aren't that many posts on this board concerning Sanderson's progress.  In fact I only remember there being one other.  Secondly, no I don't get excited about every up-tick but the the 50% mark is a particularly significant up-tick and it seemed like something worth noting.  Note that its the first time I've personally posted anything concerning the progress bar and really didn't plan on posting anything else for another 50 ticks.  Thirdly, using words such as inundate and perpetuate does make you sound smart nor does in give you an air of superiority so you can go ahead and give up on that too.

No. There is nothing that can be gained from merely pointing out the progress. A progress which we can all see just by going to Sanderson's website on our own.

Maybe I didn't have any intent in using words like "inundate" and "perpetuate." Maybe I just happen to have a decent vocabulary. Using words above a basic high school level does not mean that I'm attempting an air of superiority. I'm actually more saddened by the fact that you seem to believe that than anything else.

 

Needless to say, my post was not a direct insult towards you or anyone else on this board who would like to post a thread like this. It was merely me pointing out the simple fact that these threads are useless and posting them is an exercise in futility. I'm sorry if you felt offended, and I'm really sorry that you felt you had to imply that I was being arrogant by using "smart" words.

In the past four or five months fifty tick have gone by on that progress meter and hardly a world has been said about it.  What makes you think people are going to start excessively discussing it now?  Anyway here's an idea, why not save your complaints about the board being "inundated" until it actually happens?  This is one post in four months time which is hardly excessive.

Well we don't need it, but have you never been in a bar full of guys watching a ball game and when the home team wins some guy jumps up and shouts "Yah, we won"?  Its not like the guy thinks he's telling anyone anything they don't already know he just knows that its something that everyone in the bar will be happy about and feels it warrents a little celebration.  Well I happen to feel that way about Sanderson reaching the 50% mark and I'm pretty sure that most people here share the sentiment even if they can see it for themselves.

Bottom line is that until such time as the mods slap a lock on this thread it considered appropriate discussion.  You really don't have any say in the matter so why put unnecessary ware on your keyboard by complaining about something that isn't even a problem?

Yes and no.  It means that he's half way through the original 400K words that he estimated that the draft would be though he has admitted that he probably underestimated the length of the story by 100K-200K words.  But hey 200K words is alot and he deserves a pat on the back for it.

It can exist, you can make it all you want. But since there is no discussion, and you admit yourself it is just an announcement of your happiness so others can share in your happiness, then I believe it to be categorized wrongly.

To be serious, I agree with Ganth that 50% in a nice landmark to get excited about, but I also agree with Roxinos that there is a long way to go.  Also, there is already a thread about BS's progress, so we could just agree to post updates there.
