Basically, I'll update this thread, with the various Firmware Updates that come again every now and again, various PS3 game release dates, updates, and other PSN Store Titles & there Release Datest.

First up on the Table,

Gaia

Back when Firmware 2.10 was released, there was an apparently Hidden feature most of us didn't know about!

Most of you should be aware of Visulaizers, they are those nifty little things in media players, that show those lil hypnotic squigly and bright shiney things while you listen to your music.

Well, Q-Games released a new visualiser with Sony's Firmware update!

(See Source here and here.

You can see a You-Tube video if it in action

Now, some of you nay-sayers out there maybe saying, so what? Well, back before the PS3 was released, and during one of there E3 Tech Demos, the intial Sony 'start up' 'video' was actually this very visualizer! (IT would have been rendered in real time to mind you).

It actually looked better then what you see above. And was definately some major eye candy. ;)

PixelJunk Monsters

This is an upcoming PSN title that is going to be released during next weeks store update. This game would probably be classified as an INDIE game, and may not be for everyone. But it would fall under the 'game' definition of a Tower Defense based game. (If you don't know what that is, just go to www.addictinggames.com and check em out) they are truelly addicting games! (Specially when you can't play any other type of game with out others 'knowing' what your doing. ;))

You can watch a video of the gameplay here.

Twisted Metal: Head On-Extra Twisted Edition.

Okay, this is neither a PS3 nor a PSN game, however it still deserves to be known about.

Twisted Metal: Head On, was orginally a PSP game, It is now being ported to the PS2.

But is it just a simple port? NO!

It contains,

-Updated Textures & Art

-4 Brand New Levels

-The Twisted Metal Symphony: Free downloadable Compiliation soundtrack of the greatest musical tracks from Twisted Metal 1, Twisted Metal 2, Twisted Metal: Black, and Twisted Metal: Head On.

-Booklet filled with conceptual art dating back to Twisted Metal 1.

-The Dark Past: A 30 minute Documentary tracing the history of Twisted Metal.

-Sweet Tour: A part of the game where you get to run around as Sweet Tooth, collecting Icons that unlocks hidden concept art, behind the scenes, and the making of the series.

-The Lost Ending Movies: Back in 95' there were some live action end movies, created for Twisted Metal, that were considered to be to sexiest, and violent to see the light of day. But, apparnetly now they are just 'corny' and are being released in this game!

How much does this game that could obviously be released as a 'special edition' going to cost?

Going rate for a new ps2 game is about $45.

Is it $50?

Nope.

$30?

Nope.

Its $20! ;)

Can't beat that deal if you ask me. ;)

As a former Twisted Metal fan who didn't have the $$ to buy Twisted Metal black, I can't wait to re-hook my self up to my childhood gaming days of twisted metal and shoot a missle town a friends arse! :P

CC:FFVII

European Final Fantasy fans better be happy, as Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII has been officially granted a Spring 2008 release by Square Enix! It will be released on US Soil sometime in late March.

What is Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII You ask?

Well, its a prequil to Final Fantasy VII.

Not only that, the playable characters are said to include, Zak, and Cloud, and appearances of Airieth!

Oh, did I forget to mention its a PSP game?

Just another reason to go buy a PSP to play games like

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions

Final Fantasy I

Final Fantasy II

Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness

Monster Hunter: Freedom

Monster Hunter: Freedom 2

Metal Gear Acid

Metal Gear Acid 2

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

?Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes?

Pocket Pool

Prince of Persia: Revelations

Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command

Warhammer: Battle for Atluma

Dungeon Maker: Hunting Ground

Of course, theres probably many other games for the PSP that others would probably love, and others, you'd hate. ;)

Little Big Planet

I can't really describe the game with anything that apears to be logic, however. We were supposed to recieve a demo, but its been pushed back to sometime around September 2008.

But we may easilly see a Beta upcoming.

As for what is the game?

Just check out this link. (Its also the source)

Shouldn't this be "The Everything Inferior to Xbox 360 Thread."?

No, but go ahead and post a "Everything Inferior to the PS3 aka the 360" thread, to tout all that the 360 has to offer in upcoming updates. ;)

Btw, I'm trying to keep this thread, strictly ps3/ps2/psp/psn related. So any who actually have one, besides me, and don't read alot of 'gaming' news, can at least get some updates on some stuff. I figured this would save space instead of having a thread for every single possible game and update. ;)

I know, i saw some of those things in the shop about 2 months ago? >.>;

The closet one that would have been out '2 months ago' would be the Blast Factor, except, this is a bundle, including you know, the addons.

The PS3 Eye, came out back in around november, with Eye of Judgement, every update, they include new Eye Games. aka, Tori-Emaki, and Mesmerize: Trace.

The Addons are totally new, Turok DEMO just came out thursday night, on both PS3 and Xbox, Same with Fifa, but who cares about that game? ;)

The videos should all be the 'new' trailers, not the ones from months ago.

Next week, we are getting Pixel Junk Monsters (looks like its going to be fun as hell).

I exaggerate, the Eye toy games were the ones i saw, really. The rest i hadn't.

>.>

<.<

Are you in the U.S? If you were in say, Europe, or Asia, you might have gotten some of these, a week or more before everyone else.

Or if you were say, using the other stores, in the U.S you might have had access to em. But that release was the U.S. one. ;)

If you like indie games, or even better yet, like Tower Defense Games, that are great for killing time in the office, or in class. The game PixelJunk Monsters, if flipping awesome! Its an fricken awesome 'just one more level' game. It may start off 'easy as hell' but trust me, after the 2nd level, Its pretty damned challanging. ;)

If you don't want to buy it, or believe in buying things online, you can try the demo out. However you'll need to go to the Japanese PSN to download it. (You need to create a new user, and under that user, you register a new PSN account with a different email addy. directions are in japaense though...) but Amazingly enough, the demo is in english.

Why the US didn't recieve a demo this or last week, is beyond me. Butyou can get it that way if you want to try before you buy. ;)

I'm definitely getting Pixeljunk Monsters. I saw a bit on it on 1ups latest video podcast, and it actually looked pretty fun. Plus, they didn't forget to mention the fact that all of them are stuck on the exact same level. Considering it's £4 and i have oodles of free time i need something i can just jump in to and enjoy straight away what with no new games being released for a while. (Need to get my hands on Advance Wars and No More Heroes =/)

April 10

New PSN Store!

http://crackle.com/c/Video_Games/PlayStation_Store_video_walkthrough/2245773/#ml=fi%3D%26fpl%3D289233%26o%3D12

Firmware (v2.30)

I have more good news to report today – the system software update will also add DTS-HD Master Audio output for Blu-ray videos, which means the high-definition visuals of Blu-ray will now be matched with the highest quality audio for the ultimate movie-watching experience on PS3.

DTS-HD Master Audio is literally bit-for-bit identical to the studio master recording and makes movie soundtracks and sound effects truly come to life. The technology delivers audio at the incredibly high rate of 24.5 mega-bits per second (Mbps) on Blu-ray disc, which is significantly higher than standard DVDs. DTS-HD Master Audio also offers 7.1 audio channels at 96k sampling frequency/24 bit depths, so you’ll be totally immersed in the sound. The firmware update will add DTS-HD High Resolution Audio as well, which is a similar output technology that requires less disc space. You can read more about both codecs here.

A lot of you, particularly the home theatre enthusiasts and audiophiles out there, have been asking us for this capability, and we can’t wait until you have an opportunity to pop in a compatible Blu-ray video to test it out for yourself.

Source: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/04/15/inside-playstation-network/

It has been a while since I last wrote on the blog. I’ve been looking to take the opportunity to talk about PLAYSTATION Network and thought today’s availability of the redesigned PLAYSTATION Store would be the perfect entry point to outline what we have planned for the broader PLAYSTATION Network this year.

First off, we’re excited about the new look and feel of the PLAYSTATION Store. Personally, I’ve been looking forward to this update for a long time as, in my view, the previous PLAYSTATION Store experience wasn’t one that lived up to our brand. But this new UI is much more dynamic and allows us to elegantly display and merchandise a lot more content, which is very important today, but will be critical going forward with so much great new content coming onto the Store. We look forward to hearing your input and reaction now that you’ve gotten your hands on it.

2008 is being called “the year of PlayStation 3” by a lot of press and analysts these days, and for good reason — there’s lots of momentum behind PS3 and we have a ton of great new exclusive games coming. This week’s launch of GT5 Prologue is one great example, and gamers are already in countdown mode for Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, SOCOM, Resistance 2, and on and on. But another big reason 2008 will be a great year for PS3 fans is due to the big things we have in store this year for the PLAYSTATION Network. The PLAYSTATION Store redesign is the first step but it’s only one example. Our primary goal with PLAYSTATION Network is to form an evolving entertainment network where the PlayStation community can gather and discover new forms of entertainment. Some of the key pillars that will make this an experience a success are:

The PlayStation community; Free online gaming; Digital media download services; and Original content Of course, entertainment comes in the form of content, so I’ll dive in and discuss what we are bringing to PLAYSTATION Network that will help us achieve this goal.

One of the most critical elements to PLAYSTATION Network that we’ve focused on since day one is delivering quality games. We’ve always stressed quality over quantity (in other words, fewer arcade remakes and more original content) as well as games that show off PS3’s tech, and games like Everyday Shooter, Super Stardust HD and PixelJunk Monsters are proving that you can get a great experience for $10, or roughly the cost of a movie ticket. What’s equally exciting is what we have planned for you this year..of course one of those titles is available starting today- the world’s best-selling racing franchise, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. We also have coming this May the wildly imaginative puzzle-game echochrome, which frankly is a game I’ve been playing most lately. It’s as good as it looks in all the press you’ve been reading and is extremely addictive. We will also be bringing hugely popular franchises to PLAYSTATION Network for the first time, including SOCOM Confrontation and WipEout HD, as well as continue to deliver innovative indie games like flOwer, from the developers of flOw. So in short, content is what’s driving you, and we hear you loud and clear, and are delivering that quality that you want and deserve.

The strong lineup of games doesn’t stop there. Many of you have been hearing rumblings about a video service that will allow you to download full-length TV shows and movies via PLAYSTATION Network for North America. While I don’t have any new announcements here for the PlayStation Nation, it’s already been confirmed that we’ll be offering a video service for PS3 in a way that separates the service from others you’ve seen or used. Ultimately the goal of the PLAYSTATION Network service will be to break through the overwhelming clutter of digital media to give you the TV, movies and gaming content you want. More on this very soon …

Community-related services available via PlayStation Network have also been a big focus for enhancements here in 2008. We know you want in-game access to XMB features and we’re committed to bringing that, among other community-related services this year. They will be designed to allow more community development and collaborative gameplay, as well as recognize and reward you for your gameplay accomplishments across a broad portfolio of PS3 games. Of course, 2008 will also see the launch of PlayStation Home, and we’ll have more announcements on the expanding community functions within PLAYSTATION Network in the near future, so stay tuned.

Lastly, we feel your overall experience on PLAYSTATION Network should be rewarding. We hope the redesigned PLAYSTATION Store is a step in the right direction and delivers on your feedback, which is vital to some of the short and long term changes you’ll be seeing with PLAYSTATION Network. We understood from your comments on this very blog that you wanted the PLAYSTATION Store to have a more dynamic look and improved navigation. We want the PlayStation community to enjoy their experiences on PLAYSTATION Network and the online storefront is a key part of that experience.

And to wrap up with one of the many topics I know you ask about regularly, we are rolling out the PlayStation Cards to retailers nationwide as we speak. They will have the PlayStation Cards in denominations of $20 and $50 starting this spring. This will provide you with another option to get on board with the PLAYSTATION Store and enjoy the content that I’ve outlined above.

As you can tell, we’re extremely excited for what’s planned for PLAYSTATION Network. We believe the library of original and quality games and entertainment, combined with community services and continued enhancements to the overall experience, will deliver on our promise of an integrated content and community experiences. We look forward to sharing more updates with you in the near future.

Thanks and have fun!

So my controller stopped working last night.  I was going to use my PS3 as I have always used it... to play a movie and my controller would not turn on.  My first thought was that the battery was dead.  So I plugged it into the wall.  Nothing.  In frustration I gave up trying to use the PS3 and played my 360 instead.  I will not be happy if I have to go buy a brand new PS3 controller.

You plug your PS3 controller into the wall to recharge the battery? Doesn't it plug into the PS3 itself with a USB cable? On the other hand, if it has completely died, some would say this is a good time to be looking into a new controller, since the new model comes with the rumble feedback capability.

I have a PS3 DVD remote so I don't have to use the gaming controller when I'm just watching a movie. The remote is a lot more power efficient than the controller, only draining when you actually press a button. It also runs on AAA batteries, though, which can be helpful when you're used to cycling a collection of rechargeable batteries.

How do you plug your PS3 controller into the wall?

I don't think that you can do that...

I have two PS3 controllers and I only have one problem with them. When I am watching a movie every now and then the menu will pop up for no reason.  ???

Don't know why...

Uhh, its possible empy went out on a limb and bought the 'recharge stand' for the ps3 controller. Not that its really requried since he has that nice little USB cable that plugs into the controller to recharge it, that ALSO recharges in your PC's USB inputs.

Anyways, Empy, didn't you say you bought your ps3 with that 3 year warrenty thing from where ever you bought it? (Aka Best Buy?)

You could just bring in your warrenty info, with the controller and have em swap it.

Also, since your probably using the recharge stand, DO NOT MENTION IT TO THEM AT ALL.

As its possible that Recharge Stand you got, Fried your controller.

I've never heard of a controller just not working before...

My PS3 came with this unit that allowed the controller to be charged in the wall.  Meaning one end has that thing that plugs into the controller and the other plugs straight into the wall.  Ummm... if not I found it around my apartment and it just happens to be able to plug into the remote.

I will try charging it through the system though.

I don't recall any of the ps3 models coming with a wall unit.. Perhaps its for one of your various cell phone/digital cameras?

As the PS3 Six Axis uses something like a 'small usb' port.... you konw, seen in many digital cameras...

Ah, okay. As SD said, you have a wall-to-USB power charger used in many digital cameras and phones. I have one for my RAZR as well, but I'd be a little leery about using it to recharge a device it wasn't intended for, like the PS3 controller, even though it uses the same mini-USB connector.

USB is USB, but different manufacturers could decide to tweak voltages slightly for their own products, or be more or less careful than others about voltages, amperages, or what-have-you. Not an expert.

Oh dear.  Well it may be time to buy a dual shock.

Well, you might be able to trade your old controller in for a new one (regular or dual shock) if you have an in-store warrenty. As the controller did Come with the PS3, it also should be covered in the 1-3 year warrenty.

Just be sure not to tell them you used the in-wall charger, but the official cord....

If you didn't get an in-store, extended warrenty, then you could probably send it off to sony and wait 3 weeks. ;)

Also, supposedly the Dual Shock is in stores now, like Best has it listed, Wal-mart, as well as Game Stop. Good luck finding those in-store though. ;)
