Something that confuses me

In KoD, the Aes Sedai find out that the taint has been cleansed, and it's always bothered me that there didn't seem to be much reaction to what is undeniably the greatest victory of the Light in 3,000 years. They mostly seemed concerned with the new weave to detect a man's channeling. They just don't seem to grasp exactly how important that act will prove- men no longer have to fear channeling, which means they no longer have reason to give extra weight or respect to Aes Sedai.

I wonder what will happen when Elaida finds out (hopefully she'll be told by Mesaana, that would awesome).

The immidiate reaction to finding out the taint is gone is the Hall standing to accept binding Asha'man as warders. I'd say that is quite a positive reaction to that revelation.

And then Romanda makes sure order is kept. It is the hall after all, merrily chatting about the taint being gone can come later. Business comes first.

I think their shock of the power being cleansed was definately eased by the utter shock of having to deal with a "Black Tower" full of channelling men.

Had Saidin been cleansed prior to the creation of the black tower and the male channeler amnesty, it probably would have blown their reality away, but in light of everything else thats changed for them w/ regard to TG coming, the Dragon being reborn and the Black Tower forming, then I can kind of see how and why they approached it the way that they did.

That's true, but I guess the thing that gets me is no one takes a second glance and realizes that this is the greatest victory they've had in 3,000 years.

And now that I've thought of it, I really can't wait for Elaida to get wind of it.

we have to remember that hunting men who could channel was a job for not only all reds but all aes sedai... like a way of life, its like a motorbike driver being told to save the world everyone had to give up motorbikes... he would be glad but extremly annoyed because he has lost his way of life.

i dont really know i linked motorbikes with WoT but meh...

Lets think here. The most influential entity in the world, The white tower, bound by the 3 oaths, in power for 3000 years. A mandate to keep themselves powerful and protect humanity from male channelers going mad and destroying the world again.

Now their are hundreds of men, inherantly stronger in the power than women. Not bound by the three oaths, who's leaders are men who were hunted down by Aes Sedai, one gentled, and just might hold a grudge. And thier mandate to hunt them down and deal with them gone because the taint has been cleansed.

I'de be most concerned with figureing out a way to see them coming too... lol

Once the information has gotten out that Saiden is clean, I'd wager that a great many AS would want to continue hunting down male channelers and gentling them, taint or no. They view the OP as their "toy" and I can't imagine them being very happy to share it after all this time.

Well, I'm not sure they'll ever go back to gentling/hanging, as that would very quickly start a war between Aes Sedai and Asha'man- a war which Asha'man would very likely win. What is likely, to me, is the "guardians balance the servants" means that there will constant competition yet cooperation between the White and Black Towers, much like saidin and saidar itself.

Also, it just occured to me that, in the Fourth Age, when people refer to all channelers, they will say:

The Two Towers.

;D
