One Power Failure

The one power looks like it is failing.

I was hoping that the 4th age would not be one power free but the evidence is stacking up.

1. The new techno stuff Rand supports point to a industrial age...

2. The failure or problem with the one power noticed by the Rebel AS.

3. New age introduction for the end of a epic series the loss of magic is a clique that if often used.

4. The one power is gradually slipping away. There were TA or SA items in the Age of Legends (I don't recall which or if it was both) that did not require the one power to work. However, I thought that now many or all of these items did need the one power now.

When I read the new inventions Rand supported, I thought he would do something to the one power like create a world wide shield that would disappate (sp) in oh 50,000 year or so.

This would cause the loss of the one power but allow its return. Now I'm leaning to the failure of the one power. However, it is the power that turns the wheel, so I do not understand how it can fail and the wheel keep turning.

Perhaps part of AMOL will be the saving of the one power. Maybe there is another bowl out there. (groan) Wait, it is the last book. Saving the weather took half the series it seemed. I don't see how they could save the one power in one book. Not enough build up.

1,

Agreed, thou its quite possibly they coexist for a while too.

And me for one, don´t think it would be a abrubt end to it anyway. I would find it more likely that it will continue to fade away, growing weaker and more rare, and not until the end of the next age be gone. Right now, with the men back, its growing stronger instead.

2,

Thats I belive an effekt of the cleansing. It was an enonrmour amount of the one power used by Rand/Nyn there, and after that sort of shuffling it takes awhile for the OP to get back to its normal currents again.

3,

Indeed it is. I don´t think RJ would fall for such an obvious cliche. Ofcourse, everything is possible, but if anything, theese last years has seen a strengthening of the op users.

4,

Theese Ter´angreal used something called "the standing flows" Think of it as the one power variant of electricity. these flows was managed by Aes Sedai in some maner, and due to lack of the knowledge of how to do that, focurse there is now no longer any standing flows.

And lastly, the OP will enver disapere, what will eventualy happend is that the channeling gene will have disapered(how is that spelled anyway?).

thats my opinions atleast. Some of it facts, som well built under and some just guesses, but thats how I see it ;)

The one power looks like it is failing.

Not really.

I was hoping that the 4th age would not be one power free but the evidence is stacking up.

Not incompatible with the Power...

2. The failure or problem with the one power noticed by the Rebel AS.
The problems with the wards and keepings are a result of Shai'tan's effect on the world directly not the OP "failing". Also, like dyring said, there were problems stemming from the use of the Bowl, relating to difficulty managing the flows of the Power
3. New age introduction for the end of a epic series the loss of magic is a clique that if often used.
So?

4. The one power is gradually slipping away. There were TA or SA items in the Age of Legends (I don't recall which or if it was both) that did not require the one power to work. However, I thought that now many or all of these items did need the one power now.
The old ones broke and no-one remembered how to replace them. It is still possible to make them and set up standing flows.

When I read the new inventions Rand supported, I thought he would do something to the one power like create a world wide shield that would disappate (sp) in oh 50,000 year or so.
Why?

This would cause the loss of the one power but allow its return. Now I'm leaning to the failure of the one power. However, it is the power that turns the wheel, so I do not understand how it can fail and the wheel keep turning.

They won't save the Power, because they don't need to. They will save the world, and at some point in the future (but not necessarily in the 4th Age at all, let alone the start) people will lose the ability to channel the Power

I don't think I agree that the OP is failing.  You said it yourself - if the OP turns the wheel...

I think Mr. Ares is righ - if there is an age without channelers, it won't be because the OP is gone, it will be because people have forgotten how to use it (or some other reason  like they can't use it or choose not to).

Good points everyone.

Thanks for the posts.

I love how in depth this series is. I have not really thought as much about a series as I have this one. Although the Eternal Champion series did keep me thinking but not like this series.

Happy Holidays

In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist.

This quote pretty much means there is no cliched ending like end of magic in fantasy novels.

There might be an age where there is no one power usage . If you remember Thom's stories , most are a reference to our age , like cold war between US and Russia , Queen Elizabeth  , Mother Teresa and so on . So one of the ages is our present age with no op being used,  and there will be some age where OP starts being used. It is  a cycle.
