Its just random Joe Asha'man.

I believe, IIRC, that Joe hails from somewhere in the Black Hills and joined the BT at a rather young age for male channelers.  His interests include calling Lightning, mocking the M'hael behind his back, and exuding pure arrogance.  His dislikes include cats, bossy Red Ajah members, and Steddings.

This is all in the Glossary of KoD BTW.

Wow ... kind of odd that the random Wheel actually landed on Taim ...

Either that, or I was just plain wrong.  ;D

I am curious though ... Taim has a sword ... and a coat with Dragons winding around his arms, like Rand's?  He's not a bad artist, but did this fella actually read the books ...?  He may disdain swords, but he wouldn't be caught dead in that coat ...

I don't know if I'm miss reading your post RAW but Taim does at some stage wear a coat with Dragons on the sleeves. Blue ones if memory serves.

He did indeed. I'll get it in a minute. I think its either in LoC/ACoS at Dumais Wels or probably later when he visits Rand after the attack, or maybe when he visits Elayne.

As an aside, I prefer this pic of Taim

Yeah here it is:

Taim strode into the room as though he owned the palace. She did not need him named. Blue-and-gold Dragons wove round the sleeves of his black coat from elbows to cuffs, in imitation of the Dragons on Rand's Arms. Though she suspected he would not appreciate the observation.

Well I'll be scuppered ...  :)

Kind of an odd choice for Taim ... for the most part he's done everything he can do distance himself from overt symbols linking him to Rand ... certainly in Caemlyn, where he publicly proclaimed Rand as the Dragon, he could not be laying symbolic groundwork for a return to claiming that for himself ...

... perhaps he meant it as an overt public display of loyalty?  ... still an odd choice.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Mmm, I think it's partly a power thing: to go with his title, and to give him more authority in the eyes of the Asha'man, he doesn't just have a dragon pin like the other's no - he has the real deal on his sleeves. setting himself above and beyond them; setting himself up as Rand's direct representative, remember Logain's saying that he has done alot of things in Rand's name?

And I think it's partly mockery. He's mocking Rand's dragons with his own.

I think Taim mocks Rand a lot, on purpose. The biggest example for me is the Grey Man incident. Rand and Aviendha are talking, and Sulin (or Nandera, cant remember) and another Maiden are at the door, the grey man comes in, Rand is all ready to strike, and JUST at the moment that he's about to unleash, Taim (who's been standing in the doorway) does it for him. He says something suitably smug, and I remember Rand is furious at being made out to look slow, or weak, in front of the Maidens and Aviendha.

Actually, Rand is pissed because Taim killed the Gray Man after Rand had it captured.  Rand was going to try to pump it for information ... my bet is Taim had sent the Gray Man after Rand himself, or been ordered to do it, just so he could then kill it and make himself look good.  Of course, Rand caught on too quickly, and so Taim ended up looking suspicious (to us, anyway ... Rand seems to have his head stuffed with wool when it comes to Taim).

But yes ... Taim does mock Rand every chance he gets ...
