I am curious as to what abilities are known to ecist by just wanting something to happen really bad. Similar to when Rand heals Bella when the party is fleeing the Two Rivers (but he does not notice, only Moraine does). Another situation was when Aviendha was able to "read" some angreal etc., what other angreal could be used without the power and for what purpose.

The incident with Bela is the first time Rand channels. He just doesn't realize it yet. Moiraine explains this at the end of Eye of the World, if I'm not mistaken.

Regarding Aviendha's ability to read ter'angreal, I'm fairly sure it's a Talent directly related to the fact that she can channel, much like reading residues and so on, so I'm not sure you can count that.

As far as abilities that don't require channeling, we have:

Dreamwalking

Wolfbrothers

Min's ability, whatever you wish to call it

Sniffing (a la Hurin)

There's also the very specific link, due to their unique ta'veren-ness, of Rand, Matt, and Perrin being able to see each other if they think about each other hard enough.

On the darker side, there's the largely not-described-but-hinted at, specifically with Padan Fain and Myrddraal. They are both said to have Powers that aren't from the One Power. There's also the soul-sucking of the dragkhar.

Regarding ter'angreal that allow people to perform actions without having to channel, the only two I can think of off the top of my head is the dream ter'angreal like Egwene's ring and the Crystal Throne of the Seanchan.I know there are others; I just haven't had my morning coffee yet.

Hopefully that at least provides a place to start.

I had a feeling it would be misleading, but when I mentioned Aviendha it was not her ability I was referring to. I was referring to objects that do no need "the power" to use them, such as the item used to grow the ways.

Oh! Right. And there's an example of one I totally spaced, even after reading about it not 10 minutes before I posted my previous reply.

Actually, I think the first time Rand TRULY channels occured later in that same book when he unknownly channels lightening in an inn to save himself and mat. Almost immediately after this, Rand falls ill with a fever and symptoms that match Nynaeve's description of the experience(Egwene's???).

No, the first time we know about is the time he channeled to take away Bela's fatigue.

When a person with the spark begins channeling, the post-channeling symptoms appear some days afterward, the first time.  In the case with Bela, the symptoms that Rand experienced did not happen until Baerlon (seven days later, when he feels lightheaded for no reason, then faces down the Whitecloaks [see TEoTW ch 15]).

The more that person channels, the closer the symptoms appear to the actual channeling.  Thus, when Rand channeled on Domon's ship (he knocked the boom loose that hit the Trolloc in TEoTW ch 20) he had the reaction four days later (when he is acting giddy and reckless climbing around on the ship's mast, see TEoTW ch 24).

His reactions get progressively closer together, including his reaction to the lighting incident you mentioned in Four Kings (his reaction actually comes two days later ... the timeline is pretty mixed up in TEoTW ch 31-34, see a timeline here: http://linuxmafia.com/jordan/2_nondark/2.7_generalities/2.7.7_scarves.html).

Finally, at the Eye of the World, his reaction follows immediately after his channeling (which is why he woke from a "raging fever" after his confrontations with Aginor and Ba'alzamon).

The best way to tell when Rand is channeling in the first few books (before he starts doing it consciously) is to look for clues like this:

If Bela fell back, he would fall back, too, whatever Moiraine and Lan had to say about it. Back where the Fade and the Trollocs were . Back where the Draghkar was. With all his heart and desperation he silently shouted at Bela to run like the wind, silently tried to will strength into her. Run! His skin prickled, and his bones felt as if they were freezing, ready to split open. The Light help her, run! And Bela ran.

TEoTW ch 11

You'll notice the strange physical sensations that Rand barely pays attention to, skin prickling, bones feeling like they were freezing.  These come from his channeling of the Power.

Interestingly, Rand has the same sensations immediately before they find the Green Man's place.  Most likely the reason they found it before the high passes, and Moiraine was able to find it twice, is that Rand instinctively channeled and either brought it to them or brought them to it.  To quote:

The void eluded him, forming, then shivering into a thousand points of light, re-forming and shattering again, each point burning into his bones until he quivered with the pain and thought he must burst open. Light help me, I can’t go on. Light help me! He was gathering the bay’s reins to turn back, to face the Worms or anything rather than what lay ahead, when the nature of the land changed. Between one slope of a hill and the next, between crest and peak, the Blight was gone.

TEoTW ch 49

Moiraine assumes the key is need ... and no one challenges her because Rand doesn't know what he did, and no one else knows what Rand felt.  But it was probably Rand's channeling that allowed them to find the Eye where it usually was not, and break the "can't get there twice" rule.

This just goes to show that you can read a book several times and still miss things that are under your nose. I never actually asked myself how it was possible that Moiraine could find the Eye twice when it's all but impossible; I guess her explanation seemed satisfying enough.
