Lazy adventurers finally dropped another vote so we bravely venture into the Wind Tunnel

Jk. I know it's the weekend 🙂

Story Update – Day 5, Early Morning
You step toward the Wind Tunnel Trial, marked by a swirling arch of air-bound sigils. As you cross the threshold, a pulse runs through your Codex and the winds roar to life, forming a twisting corridor of gale-force currents, debris, and floating shards of stone.

A faint bell chimes from deeper inside. The trial has begun.

Your Flickerling Sprout glows brightly, flickering like a candle in a storm. It hovers close, sensing danger but holding steady.

A distant voice, the monk’s, echoes within:

“The wind does not yield. You must move with it… or be swept aside.”

Wind Tunnel Trial: Phase One

Test: Agility and Elemental Adaptation

You have seconds to react—walls of air shift rapidly, forming slicing spirals and sudden vacuums.

What action do you take?

  1. Use Air Magic to weave a glide-path – Requires clever redirection, Air Level 3
  2. Anchor with Water-Weaving tendrils – Brace and advance slowly, Water Level 13
  3. Charge with Firejet for a burst-forward escape – Risky, but could bypass the phase
  4. Let the Flickerling guide you – Trust its spirit-born intuition (unpredictable result)
  5. Brace and wait for a pattern – Risk taking damage, but might reveal timing clues

Current Status:

  • HP: 27 / 27
  • EP: 17 / 17
  • Fatigue: Low
  • Flickerling Sprout: Bonded – Empowered by recent dream
  • Codex: Unified Elemental Bond – Active
  • Passive: Breathbound Instinct – (+Air Evasion, minor knockback resist)

The winds howl, forming deadly ribbons. Choose your next move!

We're gonna be so sad if anything ever happens to our little dude.

We follow the Flicker

Story Update – Day 5, Early Morning
As the gale walls twist inward, you close your eyes and attune to the presence hovering beside you—your Flickerling Sprout. The little wisp pulses once, then darts forward, tracing a strange, zigzagging path through the windstorm. Not around the wind—but between it.

You follow.

The moment you align with its motion, the Codex pulses. A soft whoomph—and suddenly, you're caught in a slipstream. Buffeting winds slide past harmlessly, the chaotic gusts shifting just before touching you. The Flickerling weaves onward like a spirit-dancer.

The corridor opens ahead. The wind calms.

A faint chime echoes—Phase One Complete.

Flickerling Trait Unlocked:
Instinctive Threading – While Flickerling is nearby, gain temporary +1 to evasion/reactive rolls when facing magical or environmental hazards.

Codex Insight: Spirit familiars draw on emotional resonance. Trust has strengthened its guidance.

Trial Progress:
Wind Tunnel Trial – Phase Two Incoming…
You reach a calm eye at the center of the tunnel. Floating stone rings hover in the air, spinning slowly. At the center: a glyph-marked pedestal pulsing with Air essence.

A choice lies ahead—adapt or endure.

Updated Stats & Progress:

  • HP: 27 / 27
  • EP: 17 / 17
  • Flickerling Sprout: Bond Strengthened – Instinctive Threading (Passive)
  • Fatigue: Low
  • Time: Day 5, Mid-Morning
  • Codex: Unified Elemental Bond (Active)

Next Choices:

  1. Touch the pedestal – Embrace the Air essence, may risk elemental surge
  2. Use Water magic to steady the rings – Might unlock a safe passage or reveal glyphs
  3. Observe the pedestal first – Look for traps, clues, or hidden patterns
  4. Send the Flickerling forward – Let it test the area first
  5. Rest briefly before acting – Recover EP (minor) but risk delay consequences

What do you choose?

We are wise and pause to observe

Story Update – Day 5, Mid-Morning
You hold back and take a steady breath. Magic surges here—raw and unpredictable. Rushing in would be reckless.

With deliberate steps, you circle the floating pedestal, eyes narrowed. The stone rings orbit around it with subtle shifts in altitude and direction, responding faintly to your presence. You spot ancient glyphs etched beneath the mossy floor, half-faded, but still faintly glowing under the right angle.

You activate Soul Veil. Emotional echoes linger—confusion, resolve… and one sharp burst of fear.

The pedestal itself is not just a focus of Air—it’s a trial memory anchor, designed to react differently based on how one interacts with it. Glyphs nearby suggest paths of either Submission, Synergy, or Challenge.

Hidden within the rotating rings, your Codex picks up a pulse—there’s a Weave Pattern embedded inside, but it requires the rings to be stilled or synchronized.

Insight Gained:

  • The pedestal responds based on intent and magical balance. Touching it blindly might invoke Air backlash or a test of spirit.
  • There's a hidden Air-based spell pattern in the rings, possibly a forgotten Weave or skill trial.
  • The rings can be interacted with using Water, Spirit, or direct physical timing.

Updated Stats & Progress:

  • HP: 27 / 27
  • EP: 17 / 17
  • Flickerling Sprout: Bond Strengthened – Instinctive Threading (Evasion Boost)
  • Fatigue: Low
  • Time: Day 5, Late Morning
  • Codex: Reading latent Weave: [Air + ???]

Next Choices:

  1. Channel Water magic into the glyphs – Steady the rings and attempt to unlock the Weave
  2. Reach out with Spirit magic and Flickerling aid – Seek Synergy with the pedestal
  3. Time your step and jump onto the ring – Attempt physical synchronization with the spell
  4. Touch the pedestal directly – Choose Submission and test your elemental resolve
  5. Mark this spot and retreat for now – Return later with more Air or Spirit affinity

My knee jerk reaction was to say #1 and use Water, but after thinking about it a min... balance always balance

Reach out with Spirit magic and Flickerling aid – Seek Synergy with the pedestal

Let's synergise

Story Update – Day 5, Late Morning
You kneel near the pedestal, placing a hand gently on the nearest ring as it passes. Your Codex pulses in sync with your thoughts, and the Flickerling Sprout drifts closer, glowing with pale Spirit light.

You channel Spirit magic into the glyphs surrounding the ring's base. Wisps of spectral light trail from your fingers, mirrored by the Flickerling’s threads. The air shivers. The pedestal hums in response—not with rejection, but with recognition.

One by one, the stone rings pause in mid-air. Suspended. Listening.

The central glyph ignites with soft blue-white light. The memory seal fractures—revealing a suspended Air-Weave pattern, swirling with motion, resonance, and rhythm. It folds itself into your Codex with grace, becoming something new:

New Spell Learned: Zephyr Pulse

  • Type: Air + Spirit (Hybrid)
  • Effect: Releases a burst of compressed air imbued with Spirit. Staggers nearby foes, reveals hidden magical constructs, and may disrupt illusions or glamours.
  • Cooldown: Reduced due to Flickerling Bond – Instinctive Threading

The pedestal dims, satisfied. Around you, the wind stills—and a faint voice, long forgotten, whispers:

"Balance through awareness, not force. Let the unseen guide your stride."

Updated Stats & Progress:

  • HP: 27 / 27
  • EP: 17 / 17
  • New Spell: Zephyr Pulse (Air + Spirit)
  • Flickerling Bond: Grown – now actively supports hybrid Spirit Weaves
  • Time: Day 5, Approaching Midday
  • Fatigue: Low

Next Choices:

  1. Proceed further up the Skyreach trail – The monastery spires are rumored to be near
  2. Rest briefly and meditate with the Flickerling – May strengthen bond or restore EP
  3. Head back to Windrest Hollow – Resupply, check messages, or explore quests
  4. Search the cliffside paths nearby – Risky, but you might find elemental fragments or secrets
  5. Call upon the Codex for a memory scan – Seek a vision or echo of past Air Guardians

We love to cuddle with our Flicker cos they often give us free stuff

Story Update – Day 5, Midday
You settle onto a mossy ledge just off the trail. The sky is clear, wind curling gently across the mountainside. Your Flickerling hovers close, pulsing with quiet energy. As you slow your breath and center yourself, the bond between you deepens.

The Codex hums softly. Spirit and Air threads ripple around you—forming a subtle circle. The familiar’s glow grows brighter, and for a brief moment, you see through its senses—shimmering outlines, unseen air currents, lingering echoes of emotional auras. It's not just a pet. It’s an extension of your insight.

You open your eyes. The wind shifts. Something in the Codex settles deeper.

Flickerling Familiar Update:

  • Form: Wispform
  • Ability Gained: "Veil Sense" – While the Flickerling is nearby, you gain passive detection of hidden or illusion-cloaked entities. Spirit-based traps or glamours are easier to perceive.
  • Familiar Trait Unlocked: Curious – More likely to react to unusual energies, triggering optional events.
  • Bond Level: 2
  • Codex Sync Bonus: +1 EP restored during meditation
  • Fatigue: Minimal
  • EP Restored: +1

Current Stats:

  • HP: 27 / 27
  • EP: 17 / 17
  • Time: Day 5, Early Afternoon
  • Flickerling: Wispform (Bond Lv. 2)

Next Choices:

  1. Climb higher toward Skyreach Monastery – The spires must be close now
  2. Use Veil Sense to scan the cliffside – Seek hidden paths or secrets
  3. Return to Windrest Hollow – Stock up, speak to contacts, or check new tasks
  4. Call on the Codex to refine Zephyr Pulse – Spend time enhancing the spell
  5. Explore nearby ruins tucked under the cliff’s edge – Recently revealed by the shifting wind

5,2,1??? Loot is always nice. Short cuts make our way faster. Getting on with it moves the game along, but are we in a hurry?

Sidenote: when you play sandbox type games, do you concentrate on the.main quest.or like doing all the side quests? I'm probably like 75% side quests on the first play through and 100% on subsequent ones.

Once again we are lured by potential loot. I hope there's no such thing as a Mimic in this world.

Story Update – Day 5, Afternoon
You approach the shadowed curve of the cliff’s base, where fragmented stone ruins half-buried in moss and dust cling to the mountainside. The Flickerling flits ahead, its glow sharpening as it nears a narrow passage barely visible behind a toppled column.

Inside, the air is still—thick with old echoes and faint Spirit resonance. It’s clear this site was once part of the Skyreach pathways, perhaps an old shrine or a meditation retreat. Cracked mosaics show winged monks and elemental sigils intertwined. You spot a faint glyph shimmer beneath layers of dust.

As you step closer, your Codex pulses. The Flickerling hovers near the glyph, which responds to its presence. A quiet chime sounds—and a small alcove opens, revealing a Skyreach Reliquary sealed in spirit-threaded glass.

You gain:

  • Item: Skyreach Reliquary (Rare) – Contains a preserved monk's insight. Can be opened at a Spirit Altar or Codex altar to gain a boon.
  • Lore Fragment: A monk’s carved journal tablet describing “The Path of Winds,” a rite of attunement.
  • Optional Codex Prompt: "Would you like to imprint the monk’s echo into your Codex for deeper insight?" (Consumes no EP, but may have future consequences.)

Updated Inventory:

  • +1 Skyreach Reliquary
  • +1 Lore Fragment – Path of Winds

Flickerling:

  • Curious trait triggered (optional hidden areas may be revealed in future similar ruins)

Stats:

  • HP: 27 / 27
  • EP: 17 / 17
  • Time: Day 5, Mid-Afternoon
  • Fatigue: Light

Next Choices:

  1. Climb higher toward Skyreach Monastery – Continue the ascent
  2. Imprint the monk’s echo into your Codex – Accept the memory and risk potential influence
  3. Return to Windrest Hollow – Revisit village for supplies, work, or information
  4. Rest at the edge of the ruins – Regain EP, deepen Spirit bond
  5. Explore deeper into the ruins – The passage may continue beyond the relic site

Would you like to imprint the echo? And which path will you take next?

This is what the imprint is yes? Cos we found his journal.

The chest we can't open till we get to a shrine.

Would it be potentially risky because the monk got it wrong or because the trial would know we cheated?

We could go deeper into the ruins and see if we find anything else.

It's afternoon now, so we should also take that into consideration

When did saving the world get so hard?
