What's your favorite lesser-known character from The Wheel of Time series?

Hi everyone,

I've been a huge fan of The Wheel of Time series for years, and while the main characters like Rand, Egwene, and Mat get a lot of attention, I'm curious about the lesser-known characters that have captured your interest. Who are some of your favorite minor or secondary characters, and why do they stand out to you?

 

For me, it's definitely Birgitte Silverbow. I love her backstory, her personality, and her dynamic with Elayne. She's such a unique and strong character who brings a lot of depth to the series.

there are so many good characters, i wish Jordan could have lived longer so he could have expanded on some stories.

Oh, I totally get what you mean about Birgitte! She’s awesome. For me, I’ve always had a soft spot for Loial. Maybe it’s because I’m a bit of a book nerd myself, but I just love how he’s always so calm and thoughtful, even when things are falling apart around him. Plus, his perspective on everything feels so refreshing compared to all the intensity of the other characters.

And I’ve got to mention Lanfear—she’s technically not minor, but she’s such an interesting character. Her obsession with Lews Therin just makes her pop every time she’s in a scene. Definitely one of the more complex antagonists.

Have to agree about Lanfear : surely the best of the villains . Although Moggy has her moments and Ishy a lot of importance in the story , her appearances - in a number of guises - are all highlights.

 

There are a lot of relatively minor characters who are nevertheless interesting.  I like Aludra : her dry humour in dealing with Mat appeals to me.

For me, Birgitte Silverbow is definitely high on the list.

I actually get confused who is considered a minor character because on some online lists I saw Lan as a minor character which really threw me. Lol

I very much enjoy Loial! His introduction at the Queen's Blessing really stood out to me. Loial didn't make my list because I was thinking he's supporting not minor, but I frankly don't know how to categorize the characters. Lol

I feel the same regarding who is considered Major vs Minor. Might depend on who you are asking.

Minor Characters? That's a hard one. I would have to say Lopin and Nerim. They are just so content with their roles and while not part of the fighting, get to spend all their time following Mat around. Well, until some untimely things happen.

I only just started going through the series again, so I don't remember Lopin at all, but when you said that I couldn't help but think of the character from the Stormlight Archives, and half expected you to say "gancho". 😄 

 

Otherwise: Silviana Sedai was one of my favorite most memorable late-addition characters.

That's a great question!
There are so many rich characters in The Wheel of Time universe, but one lesser-known favorite of mine is Hurin, the sniffer. He’s not flashy, but his unique ability to “smell violence” adds an unusual and useful layer to the early books. Plus, his loyalty and courage make him really stand out despite not being in the spotlight much. Definitely an underrated character!
