and I know I'm gonna get killed here, but I have to let it out.

In Crossroads of Twilight RJ used his favorite word 3 times in the first hundred pages.

poleaxed

I was wondering what the over/under is for the last book.

I say he uses it at least 7 times.

This is a very odd topic if I do say so myself.

On another note, RJ isn't bad for that, there are other authors who I have huge issues reading because of things like that. Eregon had me mocking it through the entire book for some of his choices of words.

Thanks for not jumping on me. He has used that word so many times in this series I now dread knowing it is coming.

Terry Brooks used the word "woodenly" a little too often in his Shannara series.

Don't get me wrong, I love this Wheel of Time series, there are just a couple of annoying things.

The tugging of the braid....and actually Nynaeves whole recession to act like a 4 year old. Not an asset in the slightest bit. Hard to believe she was ever Wisdom. Hopefully, she gets whacked in the book finale.

LOL! I agree. I am so tired of descriptions of filth and sweetness mixed together...

I've been listening to the books on tape in the car with my daughter for the last, oh 3 or 4 years, LOL. I notice the channeling description every time.

I have NEVER seen ANYONE tug on their braid. It would just look so stupid.

Anyway, what bugs me most is that EVERY time i read a book i have to scrawl through pages of pasts and historys of every ruddy character. Stuff we already know. Sure it's good if you're a newbie, but in all honesty, who goes out and thinks "Hey, this looks interesting. I'll buy book 7 first"?

Authors use those as tools since the time between publishing one book and the next can get to be lengthy. alot of people dive into books without rereading the previous one to refresh... i know i have been lost a time or two in other series' because i didn't reread. those refreshers can help. most authors cut them out after the fifth or six book in a series, but with the rapsody books (assassin king), i found myself lost because she didn't use a lot of catch-ups.

granted, when you know something as well as alot of us know the wot... it can be bad.

What irks me is how RJ re-describes the process of channelling Saidin every time Rand grasps the Power.

or it rages through him like a torrent...i know exactly what you mean...

i forget which book, but he must have waisted about 45 pages on describing what the Aes Sedai were wearing.

i wonder if Lan is gonna have a stony look on his face.

  • 4 weeks later...

I don't mind the description of saidin filling Rand because it is important to be reminded occasionally about the corruption of the One Power . . .

Brian Lumley in the Bloodwars series used the phrase "on high" a lot. Probably 100 times per book.
