A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

Welcome to the Freelanders

Hello there! We are currently in the midst of some board reorganisation. Please bear with us.

The Freelanders Role Play (RP) Section is the largest of three Sections that make up the WoT RP Club and our Dragon Reborn Portal Stone World (DR PSW). The other two are Tar Valon and The Alliance.

Inside each RP Section are various RP Groups.

The Freelanders RP Section includes the following:

  • Children of the Light
  • Congress of the Shadow (CotS)
  • Freelanders (Guilds - Aiel, Ogier, Sea Folk, Seanchan, Tuatha'an, The Kin)
  • Freebooters

The Freebooters houses all those characters that don’t fit in anywhere else. They come from all over the world of the Wheel of Time books. They are the people that get passed over easily by most and yet, without them the WoT world would be a blank canvas. They bring the world to life. They are the thieves, the pirates, the innkeepers, the servants, the gleemen, the hired sword, the noble, the gambler, the orphan, etc.

You will appreciate that having so many RP Groups, each with their own rules and requirements, results in a lot of information to keep track of and records to be updated. To get started, please sign in here to let us know that you intend to, or already have, submitted a Freelander bio to Bios [at] dragonmount [dot] com OR that you are a returning member wishing to reactivate an existing character

If you have not yet submitted a bio, see the extra information contained in the next few posts.

N.B. Before going any further you should also visit The Welcome Inn to sign the Code of Conduct thread HERE, and read the pinned posts which are full of useful information.

Once your bio has been approved and CC'd, you will be allowed to post to the in character (IC) RP boards and see our out of character (OOC) private board/s. Your next step will be to start a personal thread on The Training Grounds board where you can report your character's progress (unless a member of Staff has already started one on your behalf). You'll be able to see the correct format by looking at existing threads on that board and reading the pinned "Freelanders Start Here" post.

You can find lots of useful information to help with bio submission and training requirements on the PSW Wikia HERE on the Freelanders pages and also on the Freelanders' own website HERE.

If you have any further questions or encounter problems, please contact one of the ACL's or the RCL.

How many characters can you have?

You may have 24 characters across all of the different RP Groups in the PSW. If you want to have 24 Aiel characters, that's fine. If you prefer to spread it out between different Groups and Guilds, that's equally fine. The choice is yours.

This total count will not include dead or retired characters. If you wish to bring back a retired character, and already have your full quota of 24 active characters, then you'll have to swap them out by killing someone off or retiring them.

Bio Submission for Approval

You don’t post your bio on the boards yourself. This is done by a Bio Checker. You send in your bio to the Bio Checker and they look it over to make sure it’s following all the rules necessary before approving it. They will then post it on the Biography Board where it must receive an approval cross check (CC) from a Bio Checker from another RP Group. Once that is done, you can be added to the relevant usergroup and will be ready to start your RP'ing.

Bio's need to be done in a specific format which is universal across the PSW. Sometimes you also need to follow certain guidelines. Read the following threads to improve your chances of getting your bio accepted:

How to Start Role Playing in the WoT RP

Bio Outlines for each Guild:

Aiel Biography Guidelines

Sea Folk Biography Guidelines

Kin Biography Guidelines

Ogier Biography Guidelines

Seanchan Biography Guidelines

For the Freebooters and the Tinkers, no guidelines have been specified. Feel free to contact Staff for more information.

If any changes need to be made to your bio, do remember that our goal is not to curb your fun but to make sure your character will fit in with the other characters in the RP.

Weapon Scores – One Power Scores – Rank Systems

There are three distinctly different systems that you will run in to depending on the nature of your character and the road they will take.

Weapon Scores

These determine the fighting skills of your character and their relative place in the Group of other characters in any RP.

Special WS system for the Aiel:

Aiel characters will start with WS 8, to portray the result of being brought up in the harshness of the Three Fold Land. From there your character will progress through the WS ranks following the Aiel WS system

All others follow this system:

The maximum WS a starting character can have is 5. This goes for everyone, regardless of your character’s race, background or training.

One exception to this rule is the Freebooters. Some may start out with a WS up to a maximum of 8. Do not count on this, however. This will depend on the road their character is taking in their biography, linked to the realism of the choices the character has made and what type of Freebooter they will end up being. A former Warder will not automatically be skilled in leading an army and a former General will not automatically be skilled in thief catching. The decision on this lies with the RP Section’s Staff. These are people that have a great deal of experience RP'ing at Dragonmount and have a very good grasp of what is realistic and which decision will allow you, as the writer, the most fun.

To know where your character stands at any given point with his current WS, check the different tiers and their Weapon Scores

To know what your character needs to do to increase it's WS check out this page: Increasing your Weapon Score..

To be raised in WS you need to report the RP’s you do that would allow for such a raising on The Training Grounds OOC.

One Power Scores

These determine your character’s strength and skill with the One Power and how it stands in relation to other channelers. Depending on your character nature this will vary as Sea Folk put different focus on their use of the One Power than, for instance, the Kin.

You can find all relevant information here: One Power Score

Note: the information on these systems will be improved and further detailed along the way, but these are the foundations. If you have any questions concerning specifics contact the FL Staff.

Rank Systems

Each subculture has its own way of promoting their members. The Kin have a very different way of promoting someone than the Sea Folk, the Aiel, the Seanchan, etc. These ranks may or may not be directly related to the character’s Weapon Score or One Power Score. For instance, damane may be extremely strong in the One Power but will never be anything other than damane. In the Kin, strength in the One Power means nothing in the way of rising through the ranks, since they base themselves on age. Similarly a former Captain of an Army may find himself at the lowest rank on a pirate ship, no matter how good he is with the blade as he may yet have to prove his skills and loyalty to the ship’s captain and crew.

Rank systems for each group:

Note: you may not create a leader of any sort without the approval of Staff. This is to avoid multiple characters claiming the same role IC and to maintain a level of realism (again) within each Guild.

Freebooters : rank amongst the Freebooters is determined in each IC group. For the moment there is no set hierarchy or anything of the sort that we know of. Should this change, this information will be added. For now, check with other writers of characters like your own or contact Staff.

Aiel

Kin

Ogier: there is no rank system for the Ogier at this stage. If this should change, the information will be added here. For now, check in with FL Staff on any questions concerning this for your character.

Sea Folk

Seanchan

Tuatha’an (Tinkers): there is no rank system for the Tinkers at this stage. If this should change, the information will be added here. For now, check in with FL Staff on any questions concerning this for your character.
