Sometimes even when you've fought your best....

Guest Wilson

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God's timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We've all felt the love that you've been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn't. I haven't. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn't exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God's name.

Editor's Note:

The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan's family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

-Poem by Major Michael David O'Donnell KIA Dak To 24, March 1970

If you are able,

Save them a place

Inside of you

And save one backward glance

When you are leaving

For the places they can

No Longer go.

Be not ashamed to say

You loved them,

Though you may

Or may not have always.

Take what they have left

And what they have taught you

With their dying

And keep it with your own.

And in that time

When men decide and feel safe

To call the war insane,

Take one moment to embrace

Those gentle heroes

You left behind.

A wife has lost a husband, my country has lost a patriot, and I feel as though I have lost my best friend. Thanks for your whole life RJ.

David

This will be my first and final post. I wept for ten minutes when I read of his passing and am weeping again as I write this. I've only cried twice since my mother passed away when I was 15. His work has always been there for me the last 15 years of my life, since I was 20 years old, during the good times and the bad. I never met him, and it is very strange to me how I can have such a deep feeling of loss. I have read and reread (and am currently rereading) his novels countless times (at least 10 for 'Eye of the World'). I plan to reread them throughout the rest of my life. My deepest sympathies go out to his family and his friends. The world lost a true artist. For a long time I hoped he would be able to finish the final book in the series, but I now realize it doesn't matter anymore because I already know how the story ends. Truth will always triumph over lies. Light will always triumph over darkness. Good will always triumph over evil. But, for now, the world is a just a little bit colder and I feel as though I have lost one of the few positive influences in my life.

"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass,

leaving memories that become legend."

Farewell Robert. Thank You for sharing the world of WOT. Your novels took me to exciting and wondrous places. I awaited each novel in the way that an adventurous Two Rivers lad would so eagerly await a gleemans tales during the Bel Tine. And I welcomed them to my home like the people of Emond's Field welcome the West Wind and the arrival of Spring. I will greatly miss this grand tale of yours. But as you say.. "There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time." And the Light Willing, "A Memory of Light" will complete this age of the Wheel of Time. Thank you for setting into motion the events that can make this happen.

Hats off to you Robert Jordan aka James Oliver Rigney, Jr for your distinguished military career, your life in general, your family, and for your literary accomplishments. Well done Sir! You are missed by many

May you dwell the halls of death with peace Robert Jordan. Surely you will be missed.

You wrote;

"Death is lighter than a feather, duty heavier than a mountain,"

"That mountain can grow awfully heavy sometimes," [Rand] sighed, taking a spear and buckler from Rhuarc. "When do you find a chance to put it down awhile?"

"When you die," Lan said simply.

I wonder what happens to that mountain when you die?

With my deepest condolences. Andy Mustaine.

First off, my sympathies to the family and friends, especially Harriet. From the novels I could tell he was a man of great talent. From the blog and elsewhere I could tell he was a man of great heart and mind. The world has dimmed a little, but the important thing is that he is at rest now.

God help everyone through this period of separation. And may God grant him the patience needed to put up with the coming years of steady fans arriving in Heaven, eternally pestering him for more stories to be told. :)

Tolkien may have introduced me to fantasy, but RJ got me to read fantasy on a regular basis. So by whichever name he wanted the fans to know him by:

To Robert,

To James,

Thank you.

Your body died this day, but your story and your spirit will last for ever and ever. I am grateful for what outstanding world of joy and adventure you created for me and all the others.

Thank you so much RJ.

RIP Dragon

In life I think that the vast majority of us hope, in some way, to touch or leave an impression on someone in some sense. Maybe it's our children or parents, perhaps a lover, or friends, maybe all of those. Most of us do so, in some small way. We leave that impression on a small circle of people. Mr Rigney Jr, as RJ managed to touch thousands of people through his words. That is quite special. My grandfather died recently and although he was loved and was a good man he left little more than a small sheaf of papers and us with memories. To compare the relative impact of two peoples' lives is probably inappropriate but it may one day come as some consolation to those who knew Mr Rigney Jr on a personal level that so many were touched by his work and that he will be held dear in the memory of many others.

My deepest sympathy to the family. Robert Jordon will be greatly missed, he was a living legend. He inspired me in so many ways. His talent was like a beacon. The world will be a sadder place without his presence. May his words live on forever in the wonderful worlds & characters he created. May he rest in peace.

My thoughts are with you Harriet, I too lost my soul mate many years ago and it is a hard thing to go on living when half your soul wants to be in heaven. I think that when the good die young, and our beloved Robert Jordan was still young, I think that it makes the rest of us wonder if we are doing all that we can be with our short lives. There is no doubt in my mind that James Rigney lived his life to the fullest, he packed more into his life than most people read about in fiction novels. He was a hero, a brilliant mind, and an incredible artist. We can only hope that his memories will live on in the unknown numbers of people he will inspire in the way they live their lives from now on.

I will be thinking of you Harriet and praying for you.

I am saddened beyond words. I honestly cannot say more than that. I will continue to read through the series over and over. I love it and his work too much.

God bless all of you, Harriet and Wilson foremost for keeping up this dialogue. My only solace in this time of loss is that we shall see him again. I urge you to cling to that Truth.

Take care and God bless.

Robert Jordan was the man who taught me how to treat woman with respect when my father couldn't, as well as how to live my life - with honour.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. My students held a moment of silence for RJ this morning, having been introduced to WoT in my class last year. We have been inspired, entertained, and enlightened by his work. Thank you RJ for sharing so much of yourself with us.

What can I say?

Robert Jordan created a world that was so real to his readers that it is hard to believe he has really passed away. As long as his books are read, he will remain with us.

My condolences to his friends and family.

My god. My deepest condolences go to the Jordan family. I just can't believe that he's gone. His giant books were one of the highlights of my life. Thank you, Mr. Jordan, for giving us such a wonderful series. May you continue to scribble away in heaven, as you so often wished to in your Author's Notes in the back of the books. Every time I read that, my decision to become a writer was reaffirmed. Thank you.
