  1. Ummm, no. Wrong. Also, kinda dumb. People like Moridin, for God's sake. Even though he thinks "bad things about our hero." Because he is an interesting and well-written character. In stark contrast to certain others.

Moridin thinking bad things about Rand? When? How?

Comparing Moridin to Egwene is a very bad idea anyway. They have noting in common.

You surprised me, however. I thought I had you on ignore already. Strange.

  2. Well if you want an explanation, here's one:

Rand is the HERO. We get mostly his PoV's at first, then we get mostly his PoV's in every situation he is. We see almost everything from his PoV for a few books. From the PoV of a guy who is going mad.

Lots of people never really manage to see the series from any other PoV, not really. They get stuck there.

Now Egwene dares think bad things about their hero. How COULD SHE?

Conclusion: Egwene = BAD. So let's start finding the reasons why.

Please stop. You're just making your side look bad.

    I don't have a side.

I don't know what it is I should stop as this is my only post.

I took the question of the topic-starter seriously and answered it as well as I could. This is about 90% of the REASON. Sure, there are other things too, but this is the source of it.

  4. She did do serious damage. She stopped Egwene's dreaming for months. She also helped setting the Rebel AS on the Tower AS even more and make sure that there really comes a war. Well, she helped Egwene with that and other than that she was a bad politician and her schemes didn't go well either (because Egwene was kidnapped, for example).

  5. It's a Small World After All

While starting my 8th re-read of The Eye of the World, I was jarred by the lack of knowledge about people that the characters have.

    a) No one knows who Thom Merrilin is. Except, of course, for the royal family of Andor. For any ruling family on the continent, the putative lover of the queen of Andor would have been a marked target of gossip. Even after the perhaps 15 years that Thom has been gone from the court, no one remembers his name. Moiraine especially should have known; she was very high in the succession ranks after Laman was killed, and should have been well-schooled in the gossip of the closest neighbor of Cairhien.

    b) Ruling families and their courts don't visually recognize each other. In a similar fashion, all of the courts would have seen pictures, perhaps as paintings, and heard descriptions of the important people of lands near and far. Thus, it was surprising that Thom did not recognize Moiraine as a Damodred; even given her "cover" as Aes Sedai, he would have registered her as noble born and given her height and her looks, there were only a couple of people who would fit that description. There is evidence later on that she had the Damodred looks, when Rand was having a picnic near Cairhien.

So, my question is, "Except for plot progression, why did not these people recognize each other?"

Good points. Except that we know from the books that they DID recognize each other. Thom recognized Moiraine for what she was (and who she was) and Moiraine recognized Thom too.

I think you should read their story a bit more carefully. I suggest reading their chapter in TSR (don't remember exactly which chapter it is) and the subtle hints in the first three books. You may want to look up Terez's summary on Moiraine+Thom foreshadowings as well (I don't have the link).

  6. Well, the facts were there. She thought she might have been compelled except for the fact that Gaebril couldn't be a male channeler as they'd go mad. That Rand al'Thor fought someone in Caemlyn. That the last battle was coming. The things she experienced when with Perrin. (Surely, the forsaken were out there)

She should have figured that piece out a long time ago.

We can explain it by her mind being elsewhere (Shaido captivity) and by Rahvin's compulsion forbidding her from thinking about it.

  7. As for the rest, I'm spacing right now but have we seen people hide the ability to channel? Know they can invert weaves but didn't know they could mask the talent completely.

I know people have said cut them off on the way back to Ebou Dar but that is still a huge amount of land. Way too much of a risk to send a large party of sisters close to the city. In addition how do they know the Raken aren't heading back to/through Amadacia or Tarabon? The amount of land they would have to travel is crazy big. Look how much of an issue Perrin had tracking a huge party of Shaido by gateway and they were on land.

Moghedien taught them (else she wouldn't have been able to hide at all).

What risk in sending those sisters? They can travel out if needed, they have scouting superiority and first strike against any group that has no travelling and they can lay low if needed, they have the means to do that.

Well, Perrin's inability to track those Shaido down is a quite stupid plot device too. He went around it very, very stupidly, but still he should have caught them much faster. It's just that RJ didn't want him to catch them. As you can see, Brandon was clueless on how to slow down Perrin's group too. Just not feasible with them having channelers who can travel.

  8. This is just ridiculous. Look at the map of Randland, how would sisters possibly canvas that large of an area, tracking a small group of Seanchan that leave no trail since they are flying? Do you hope you stumble upon them during one of the pit stops? The odds are beyond remote to say the least. As soon as they left the general vicinity of TV they were as good as gone.

Also as a side question, have we seen anyone be healed from forkroot?

    1) Find just ONE warder who can point them out.

    2) They would take days to go back. Travelling is quite fast. I'm sure Bryne would have an idea how to spot them (set up stations of sisters around the land and when one spots them, alert, gather and attack is one).

    3) Send spies to Seanchan controlled land. Spies who can channel, travel and hide their ability. Track down the da'mane kennels then set them free. With linking, invisibility, inverting, reversing, angreals, sa'angreals, hiding the ability to channel they should be unstoppable.

It's just a glaringly huge plothole, nothing more. Getting Travelling via spying and kidnapping random channelers would be alright. This one is ridiculous.
