  1. Book 3 Spoilers

Do you think the show will do the

    Spoiler

stone of tear story line, and Be'lal, like at the end of TDR

Next season, or do you think the show might skip it and

    Spoiler

bring in callandor at a later point in time?

    Spoiler

If they do skip it, would Be'lal be one of the forsaken

not to appear in the show do we think?

  2. Hi all,

so i have just finished the dragon reborn and really enjoyed it. Its my favorite of the first three books, and i have just started reading the shadow rising.

Im curious what everyone's top three (or more) of the wheel of time books are peoples favorite?

I am enjoying the series more and more as i go on, and i am just curious if the best is still yet to come!

  3. So for a bit of context, i am loving season two so far, i think this is a massive step up on season one in so many ways.

But after watching episode three it got me thinking, how are they going to shoot the end of season two? Im thinking more specifically the 'horn of valere being blown' and the 'battle in the skies'? I think, especially the battle in the skies, if it is not done right, there could be a fine line between it looking great, but also looking a bit, silly?

Maybe especially for non-book readers who are just watching the show.

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are, will they keep close to the books, and if so is there a way to make it look cool and not silly? Or will they change it to something safer?

Someone picked up the patterns between the star points are different and could indicate the Forsaken.

I think they could be onto aomething, looking at the patterns above like an analogue clock..

1100: looks like a spider crab, 8 limbs - Moggy

1200: no idea, though could be a spider Web?

    0200: kinda looks like a snake -

    0300: evil face, big brain?

0500: looks like angel, something with wings..?

0630: ahem.. kinda looks like.. female anatomy - Graendel

0800: maybe a bee - Sammy, though bees don't make sense for his backstory

0930: evil face with a circle it's chest..?

    Thoughts?

are we thinking we wont't have all 13 forsaken in the show then? 8 is easier to portray for tv? what do we think?

The Main enemies are People. Forsaken, Black Ajah...

apologies, im only on the dragon reborn at the minute, and to be fair in the great hunt the antagonists were mainly the seanchan i guess so fair enough.

  6. what i would say though, is anyone else nervous about the vfx coming up in the tv show? The main enemies in it are all vfx, i dont want it to get to the stage where if their  a bit wonky it detracts from the show itself. By all accounts there is some huge battles in the books, so i struggle to see how they could replicate this unless spending a ton of money?

Lord of the rings worked because the Uruk Hai were people with prosthetics on, but obviously they have not gone down this route with wot show. Be interesting to see how they negate that unless amazon just end up spending really big on it.

  7. Really excited for season 2. Great trailer and i really like the music that comes with it actually.

Do you think Thom Merrilin will be in this season? What with his story line in tgh albeit brief, but would be nice to see him back, thought the actor played him really well in season 1.

  8. Hi all, fairly new The wheel of time book reader here and very excited for season 2 coming out. I am currently on the dragon reborn, but i am just curious, i vaguely remember Brandon Sanderson giving an interview where he grouped jordans books into like different trilogies? Im sure he said books 1-3 were more adventure books, and 7-9 were more political or something like that? Can anyone remember the actual groupings he labelled the books as?

Just curious, really enjoying the books and looking forward to whats to come.

They had it planned and written differently but Covid and Barney's leaving changed a lot. Fain should have confronted Mat instead of Perrin. Shadowspawn had to be CGI and the battle spaced out per covid restrictions (2 meter distance between actors for example). Original battle was more open IIRC with the Shienaran cavalry actually fighting the horde. Nynaeve's resurrection was supposed to be more like CPR and other skills (they were obviously cut) Egwene learned from Nynaeve in earlier episodes. The changes affect S2 to some degree but hopefully not too much.

    Burn you, Covid!

On that note do we know why Barney left yet? I thought it was a shame I thought he played mat quite well!

  10. Overall i think they did a decent job on the show, however id love to know the % of people who haven't read the books, who like the show as just casual viewers of tv? Compared to fans of the books then watching the show?

But for me personally the show piqued my interest for me to start reading the books, so it won me around.

I don't agree with everything the show did though, i would have liked more of a build up/payoff of when they visit shadar logoth in episode 2 is it i think? This felt far too rushed and thought it missed out on a lot of tension that they could have built, because i loved this chapter in eotw. And although i completely understand why they changed the end of eye of the world, they could have came up with something better than what we got? surely?

I was not sure how i felt with all of the channelers taking out the trolloc army, behind their own forces once they were all killed, and the horn also being buried under the throne? I know they need devices to speed the show along, but it just felt a bit jarring to me. Padan Fain is great though.

  11. thankyou for the replies, im looking forward to what lies ahead, and thanks for clearing up the questions i had.

With regards to show vs books, id have to say i think the books are superior. I understand it must be a huge task to adapt the books into any form of tv or film, but upon reflection parts of the show didn't quite sit right with me. But in the shows defence, i understand there were covid issues when filming which inevitably changed scenes, and i also don't blame them for changing the end of the eye of the world, as for me this was the weakest part of the first book i thought. And the show did do enough to pique my interest which has got me onto these marathon of books, so it definitely did something right.

Plus i thought they did the exploration of the warders and aes sedai really well, i just hope amazon stick with this so they can tell the full story in the show, and not cancel after 3 seasons for example.

  12. Hi all, so im a new fan of the wheel of time (bit late i know). But i liked the tv show, so now im working my way through the books (im currently halfway through the great hunt).

I was just wondering are their big battles coming up in the book series to look forward to (ala like lotr?).

And also although its called the wheel of time, i am assuming there isn't really any time travel in it, more about the breaking of different ages? I ask this last question who i want to try and get into this, and he is a massive time travel fan, but i do not want to miss sell him when talking about this series.

    thanks
