  1. Spoiler

They totally gutted "The Ways".  The look of the gate itself is totally wrong.  The way to open them is totally wrong. The inside can be left to interpretation, as they became corrupted, fine.  I guess the trollocs had a channeler with them at the gate near Two Rivers? Unless Fades channel now?  They were supposed to be a thing for the Ogiers.  Grown by them in fact!  They are supposed to look like living things and almost come alive when activated. How are Ogier supposed to use them if you need to channel to open them?  Very disappointed with the decisions regarding the Ways.  I hope we find out some concrete answers as to why they're not for the Ogier anymore.  Though I doubt it.  Was initially disappointed with Loil, but I get why they needed to make him this way.  He'd have blown the budget on CGI.  My last gripe with Loil are his hands.  He has very stiff looking doll hands.  Dial back the hand make-up next season and give him back some dexterity.

Another gripe, Moiraine said she didn't know Nyn could channel. This is either a lie and they changed Moiraine to Black ajah, or Aes Sedai cannot sense channeling in other women.  Being that nobody in the throne room refuted this, I would say Aes Sedai cannot sense the ability to channel in other women.  Very odd. I don't like this decision and I think it will come back to bite them later.

There was another scene where Moiraine arguably lied.  Egwene said "Rand and Mat, are they...?"  Moiraine interrupted, "I have people watching for their arrival..."  We can argue semantics but that is a lie.  They already arrived and she knew it.  If she said "I had people watching for their arrival...", that would simply be a lie of omission, which is fine by the lore.  They need to be more careful with wording regarding Aes Sedai.  It's been pretty good so far.

I'm being nit-picky, I know.  But we're laying the ground work this season.  Things have to be VERY specific.

I'm still on the fence.  Do I actually like the show or am I forcing myself to like it because I'm so invested in the books.  There is SOOO much hack and slash of plot line so far.  I understand there had to be, but man...way too much so far.   So, so rushed.

Other questions I had.  Does this show make sense to people who haven't read anything from the books?  Do the non-readers feel truly invested in the characters?  So much character building was slashed.

There are book spoilers intertwined with tv show spoilers, so I hid the whole thing.

  2. I predict:

    Episode 5:

They stumble upon Tear on their way to Tar Valon.  They over take the stone and Mat pulls the Holy Shotgun from the chamber room.

Mat and Rand fight about sharing Tylin's room in the stone.

Perrin and Egwene show up with Aram.  Perrin is secretly in love with Aram, but Aram only has eyes for the local Lady Elayne Trakand.

The sea folk show up with a special bowl of the rains and try to drown Thom for singing off key.

Ba'Alzamon shows up and tries to seduce Nyn, but then Perrin kills him with the special Hammer he found after killing Valda.

  3. Maybe we could think of this adaptation as one of those mirror worlds from the portal stones?  Basically WoT's version of the multiverse.  That's what I'm gonna need to do.  We're watching a mirror world of Randland where people hate long drawn out plot lines and always get right to the point.  ?

I knew they would need to condense the plots.  700+ pages into less than 8 hours is quite the feat, to be sure.  I.e. LoTR extended edition movies equal just shy of 12 hours with 1000 pages of source material, and still lots was missing.  I was just unprepared for how jarring it would be.

  4. I mean, they've changed enough so far that a lot of Warder weapons could be power wrought.

    Spoiler

That talent is lost in the books

, but not necessarily in the show.  That means they would pretty much forever remain pristine as they day they were made.  Also, Warders would have the most costly weapons, made by the best smiths in Tar Valon.

I've given up on the show being like the books.  It's merely an interpretation at this point.

  5. All of that stuff you mention would only have emboldened the WC.  If Moiraine proved it by wrapping Valda in air, she'd be instantly peppered with arrows, along with the rest of the band.

WC wouldn't let a known Aes Sedai go when they had such an advantage.  Also, she could provide valuable information when put to the question.  No, they wouldn't have let her go, to die peacefully elsewhere.  Especially not after the previous set up scene with burning one alive.  WC are sworn to destroy all shadow spawn, and they believe Aes Sedai are some of the worst.

  6. Never said Valda would be stupid about it.  Like you said, he'd call for archers, or some such device.  She wouldn't attack him for asking a question.  Not unless she was in acual real danger.  Heck, there was a point in the books where Aes Sedai couldn't attack trollocks because they weren't close enough in proximity to pose a real threat.

1 hour ago, king of nowhere said:

i already answered that stuff in full

You didn't though.  I countered with a very plausible explanation of why the White Cloaks(Questioners at least) would know real Aes Sedai couldn't lie, even if they boasted about the oaths being lies.  You think Questioners wouldn't try to prove that oath one way or another under the question?

Anyways.  I think the scene was poorly written, and I hope to be proven wrong about it by later episodes.

All in all I am liking the show.  They sure are rushing through some stuff.  I knew they would, but it seems they've covered a lot of book one in 3 episodes.  Seems a tad fast.  I'll have to question a few people I know who haven't read the books, to see what they think.

  7. Why not ask "Are you Aes Sedai?", if there was any suspicion?  They admitted to the whitecloaks they had been around shadow spawn.  That's enough for them.

Even if they don't believe the three oaths, they could still see how she would act if asked.  Also, White Cloaks, Questioners in particular, would have long proven the lie oath to be true during questioning of captured Aes Sedai.   Even if they outwardly call the oaths lies, Questioners would know better.

  8. Spoiler

Ok, the burning scene was fine.  You can explain away why the Aes Sedai didn't fight her way out.

The scene with Moiraine was either terribly written or there have been big changes.  Maybe both?

First of all, White Cloaks would recognize(at the very least) Aes Sedai agelessness.  The fact that they didn't(Valda especially) is proof of bad writing or agelessness is totally out.

Second, they would recognize a Warder traveling with his Aes Sedai.  This could be explained away I guess, so not a huge deal.

Third, and my biggest critique.  White Cloaks are kind of like Hyenas.  Generally speaking they're a bit cowardly on their own, but ferocious in numbers.  They clearly had the upper hand with the Dragon troop.  Why wouldn't Valda have simply asked Moiraine if she were Aes Sedai?  She couldn't lie, and if she stalled with a wordy answer, they would have seized them all. Bad writing or??  If there were any suspicions whatsoever, why wouldn't White Cloaks simply ask the woman if she is Aes Sedai?

  9. Yeah, really hoping that's a portal stone.  The Waygates were grown by Ogier by planting special talismans, given to them by powerful male channelers. Hence the look of a living thing that looks even more alive once activated.  Those don't look like they grew out of the ground...in any way.

My guess is they are simply passing by this portal stone on their journey, but it will be remembered by Rand for another time.  Unless they literally skip a bunch of story and have them camp there, and Rand wakes up in a portal world.

So that's my positive contribution.  It's not a Waygate.  ?  *phew*
