  1. I think you misunderstand.  A person with a 8 in Fire has exactly the same level of strength and ability as someone with an 8 in Air.  The strenth score has *nothing* to do with the buying cost.  There is no relation to final strength or to potency.  The buying cost is not equivalent to final strength.  The way our system works, you do have to sacrifice to have an unusual OP score (especially strong overall, or strong in male elements).  In effect, a person who is assigned a 30 at character creation, and squanders 5 points in order to be super strong in Fire and ends with a strength of 25 is equivalent to a person who is assigned a 25, but uses the points to full advantage at character creation.  No extra study required; it is assumed that each character was 'born with' certain affinities to certain elements.  For instance, Jaydena's character may be awesomely tallented in Earth will never have a higher score than 3 in Fire, no matter if she spends a decade practicing only her Fire weaves.

The penalty system is in place to keep scores in balance and to discourage high buying.  It just allows for flexibility if a player really wants their character to be special in an area. :)

So, buying cost =/= final strength.  No relation.

  2. Okay, so I was planning on playing Dulcinea out through her final year as an Accepted, but most of those that I'd made plans with are now gone, so I think I'm just going to skip ahead to her raising and oaths.  So, what's the deal with the Green raisings, and who wants to be involved? :)

  3. Shevara looked up quickly from her writing, thinking she had heard something.  But no other sound came, and she went back to her letter.  She hated writing, and used a clerk whenever she could.  But this information was far too sensitive to trust to any clerk.  There were rumors that Malkier was being infiltrated by Darkfriends, that the fall of the city was imminent.  It would surely work out fine in the end.  But certainly not worth scaring a clerk over.

A few minutes later she heard a firm rap at the door and got up quickly, leaving her missive aside, and grateful for the excuse to do so.  What she saw when she opened the door was quite a surprise.  There stood a girl in novice white.  Brand new from the look of her, and wearing a ki'sain of all things!  Well now, that was a surprise.  Few enough Malkieri girls came to the Tower, and fewer were allowed to remember their homeland in such an obvious way.  Shevara hadn't worn her own ki'sain in well over a hundred years.  Hers had been blue, never having been married, and she had been required to remove it when she was entered into the novice book.  Either the Mistress of Novices was becoming lax in her discipline, or this girl would need a stronger dose.  Either way she would be dealt with, and in short order.

"Name, girl," Shevara snapped, not really waiting to hear the answer, "I assume you're new, and have been given over to my charge.  Well, I can't say much for the quality of the girls they've sent me recently, perhaps you'll be a change for the better.  Come in and let me get a look at you."

She stalked over to the low fireplace and took a high-backed chair gesturing the child toward the other, "I am Shevara Sedai, of course.  You would have been told, if you knew where to find me.  Now, tell me about yourself.  How much schooling have you been given?  Can you read?  Make a decent hand?  Do sums?  It's much easier if you've already been taught the basics, but if not the Tower will soon make a proper woman of you.  Training in the Power is only a part, I fear.  We will test your aptitude in that area also, and I will assign you to the proper teachers for your level in the other more mundane subjects.  Now, have you any questions?"

  4. That's not how the scores work.  The higher number is the 'cost' for a particular element.  When you are assigned an OP score at character creation, this is your buying allowance, not necessarily your final strength.

For instance, using one of my old characters, Muirenn Alianin:

    Muirenn Alianin

    A -6 (6)

    E - 2 (2)

    F - 4 (4)

    S - 8 (10)

    W - 5 (5)

    Total 25 (27)

    Skill - 38

    Potency - 63

At character creation, I was assigned 27 as my buying allowance for strength.  Instead of distributing it in such a way as to make my character as strong as she could be, I instead chose to 'buy' extra points in Spirit, so that she could perform some of the more powerful weaves like Travelling.  Only the final score goes into the table after it is checked out by staff to make sure you were given enough points to buy the score you are requesting, but only the final tally is shown.  It doesn't mean that her score is wrong, just that I made a choice during character creation to sacrifice some overall strength for strength in a particular element.

So, even though my character Muirenn was given a buying allowance of 27, her final strength score is only 25, so she is equal in strength to someone like Karissa or Suzaku who were assigned a lower buying allowance but chose to use it to their best advantage.

    Make sense?

  5. Who wants to have their character suggest Shevara for the Seat?  She's been a Sitter a very brief time (only since the Watchers RP), and hasn't been overly involved in Tower politics, so while she doesn't have many close friends, she also hasn't made enemies.  She is well known for her success with gentled men, and she stays in Tar Valon for 10-20 year stretches while babysitting/studying each man she's brought in.

I'm writing up the first post now, and once I have the parts filled, I'll toss it up.  Once Shevara's name is put forward, she will excuse herself from the discussion and wait it out like any other cantidate would.  Her sense of honor would preclude her lobbying for herself.  If any Ajahs want to claim a spot for one of her three supporters, do that too. :D

Once I've posted it, I'll give two weeks for discussion & such, then bring her in and do a sum up.  Unless there's anyone who won't have their character stand the first time?  If that's the case, I'll do the foot washing, then a sum up.  So post here if you don't plan to have your chica stand in the first round.  The decision has to be unanimous, so even one character sitting will require the foot washing bit. :)

  6. Definitely past time to get this off the ground!

So, how do y'all want to do it?

    Who'll be standing right off?

Just before her death, Annais made a deal with the BT that is meant to put them on equal footing with the White Tower.  Is there some resentment over this?  Is raising a Red Amyrlin a way of making a statment?  To just the BT?  Or to let the Dragon know that the WT won't be cowed?

What reasons will your character/Ajah have for supporting a Red?

  7. Tossing the edge of her dustcloak across her right shoulder, Shevara Edosian glided through the halls of the Red Ajah upon her return from visiting Edwyn.  The man was giving her fits now, it had been six years since he had been gentled, and in the past month it had been increasingly difficult to lift him from his despair.  But she was not ready to give up on him yet.  She pulled off her gloves and tucked them neatly into her belt, then brushed a loose strand of platinum blonde hair behind her ear.  It would have to be dealt with, and that was that.

She was stopped rather abruptly when she saw a grubby scullion standing outside the door to her rooms.  No, not a scullion.  That dress was certainly silk.  But so covered in ash as to make the fabric nearly impossible to make out.  What was this?

"Girl!  What business do you have in the Red Ajah quarters?" Shevara asked as she stalked up to the door of her own rooms.  She would have to get an actual scullion up here to get rid of the mess.  "Speak up, I've other things to do than hold the hand of a lost child.  And a dirty one at that."

  8. Dulcinea was bored out of her mind.  Taking a turn at attending the Amyrlin was always seemed like an interesting task at first, but then faded on to drudgery.  Every time there was something interesting about to happen, she and the other woman in the banded dress were shooed away out of earshot.  And then for good measure a ward was put up to prevent even casual eavesdropping.  No fun at all.  At least today Annais Sedai was having her audiences out of doors.  It was indeed a beautiful day for a ride.  But the beast of a horse she was on liked to dance, and Dulcinea was becoming more and more frustrated with trying to guide him back and forth from the main riding party.

There were nearly a dozen sisters in all, including the Amyrlin.  And there were three other Accepted who had been sent carrying messages.  Dulcinea herself had just returned from delivering a summons to a Blue, who should be here shortly.  She hadn't dared to wait on the sister having her mare saddled, and the Blue had only tsked softly and sent her ahead.  Who knew when the Amyrlin or one of the sitters might need another messenger?

And it seemed that she had arrived none too soon.  Just as she was getting settled in, the Amyrlin beckoned for the other woman in the banded hem.  Dulcinea smiled wryly at her, glad that it was someone else's turn.  As the Amyrlin sent the girl on her way, she turned her horse back around, flicking the reins expertly.  But the spirited mare did not want to go. She minced a few steps forward, then balked.  Another flick of the reins did nothing to move her forward.  Frowning, Dulcinea watched as Annais Sedai gave the horse a quick heel in the ribs to encourage her.

At that, the mare reared back on her hind legs and then reversed, quick as lighting, her hindquarters going up in the air.  And the Amyrlin was unceremoniously bucked off.  Everything seemed to move in slow motion as gasps of horror went up among the trailing coterie.  Dulcinea was surprised to find that one of those strangled noises was coming from her own throat.  A

A loud crack echoed through the air as the Amyrlin hit the ground.  That was not right.  A fall from a horse was hard, but not that hard.  A broken bone?  A snapped wrist.  But she wasn't moving.  Oh Light, the Amyrlin wasn't moving.

The moment was broken in a flurry of activity as two Yellows and a Gray flung themselves from their mounts, weaves already being prepared.  A stout Yellow reached Annais Sedai first and a simple Delving weave sank into her.  However, the Delving, used to check health, did not turn to the more complex Healing.  The sister lifted an edge of the Amyrlin's stole and used it to cover her face, then stood, scrubbing her hands against her skirts.

    "The Amyrlin, she is dead."

  9. That'd be great Elgee!  I have a similar RP already written up for my Keeper, whenever she's chosen. :D  I'm waiting to figure out with Jayde exactly where we are in terms of what Annais did with the Tower, and the decision to be made as to what happened to her.

So, no novices or Accepted (or even Aes Sedai!) want to go to the spa for High Chasaline? :(

  10. Dulcinea checked her hair in the small looking glass propped up on her nightstand.  A silly gesture, she admitted to herself, as the black curls she had so meticulously placed would be ruined in the steam of Mistress Elin's Shienaran Bath House within the hour.  But she would be seen coming and going, and that was what mattered.  She nodded firmly to herself.  She quickly scooped up her satchel and was out the door.

All the Tower initiates had been granted a free day, in honor of High Chasaline.  The Accepted were free to go into the city, as were the novices, with an escort.  When she heard, Dulcinea knew exactly how she wanted to spend her day: the spa.  Mistress Elin's was known for catering to the Tower and Aes Sedai.  It was rumored that there was a private room for each Ajah.  Fascinating if true.  But more important were the accomodations themselves.  Heated baths open to both genders, with a variety of scented oils and frothy bubbles.  Massages in styles ranging from Shienaran to Tairen to Domani.  Beauty treatments from all lands.  She even contracted with stylists at times.  A day of rest at Mistress Elin's was not to be missed.

Dulcinea arrived and changed quickly, a habit she had learned as a novice.  It always seemed that novices never had enough time for anything they wanted to do.  As the daughter of a Tairen High Lord, Dulcinea's early life had been one of indolence, even the simple act of dressing generally required at least two maids, and an hour.  Now, she was out of her banded dress in moments and wrapped in a fluffy white towel, with matching terrycloth slippers.  She hurried into the bath house and slipped into the steaming water, closing her eyes as she let the warmth and scent of jasmine wash over her.

"Think only of the good on High Chasaline," she murmured

  11. Yep, I know that song & dance.  I just finished up a busy patch at work, myself.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Warder character to help ya out with, but I do know that at least one of the trainee reqs deals with an Aes Sedai.  When you get to it, hit me up and I'll help you out. :)
