  1. Oh my! Let's see how far back I can remember!

    Highests:

    Daelin -> Dallah(?) -> Yavanne -> Kathrina -> Muirenn -> Zania -> Perine -> Maegan -> Zarinen

All the ones up to Muirenn are dead.  Muirenn is stilled and at the BT.  Zania and Perine are disappeared.

Traditionally at DM, the Reds have strong ties to the Green and Gray Ajahs who both usually stand with them in the Hall.  There is animosity with the Yellows, who pushed through a law that would keep the WT from gentling any male channelers, and instead bring them to the Tower to study their madness.  Until recently, there was also animosity toward the Browns, who stood with the Yellows, but since Raeyn has taken over the Brown Ajah this has lessened (she has a soft spot for Reds).  White also stood for the law, as did the Blue, but overall there is a more neutral relationship with those two Ajahs.

  2. Hey all!

I haven't gotten any RP nudges from folks outside of the Red Ajah in a while, so I wanted to put out a reminder that the Amyrlin is available to be used in your RPs.  I firmly believe that my job as writer for the Amyrlin is one of a facilitator, and that the character should be used to further *your* RP plotlines.  Want to plot with her?  Against her?  Be assigned a penance?  Develop a personal relationship?  Have an individualized raising? Just let me know! :D

  3. Quick note: Raslyn is being sent as Shevara's eyes and ears since she can't be seen in the Red Quarters herself! I'm sure it'll come out pretty quickly that this has the Amyrlin's support to go forward, and Raslyn is definitely smart enough to figure out her intended role. :D

Which means...looking forward to a good RP with you after this one, Kara! :D

  4. Shevara nodded again; the woman certainly had given the matter a great deal of thought.  And, she reflected, the plan seemed a sound one.  A non-channelling messenger with a letter.  Much more suitable than a group of Aes Sedai, no matter how benign their intentions.  And with the treaty signed by her predecessor, the reaction should be much different than last time.  That still grated, but by law and custom she was bound as though her hand had held the pen.  The Black Tower equal to the White.  Well, they would see.

"Very well, daughter.  I give you leave to open a correspondence with the Black Tower.  Let us see how much the treaty Annais made is worth.  Speak to your Reds.  It would not do to have open rebellion to the idea.  The Ajah must speak with one voice.  There will already be too many questions from the other Ajahs when this is discovered.

Raslyn, I think, will be agreeable to the idea as well.  Keep her fully informed.  As one of no Ajah, but raised from the Red, she can be seen to speak with you more freely than I am able.  I dislike using an intermediary, but if I have too many meetings with the Red Sitters it will cause unpleasant talk.  I will not be see to be too partial."

She paused and folded her hands carefully, speaking with all the Aes Sedai calm she could summon, "Before you go, Zarinen, I would ask a favor of you.  Please teach me the weave used to bond a Warder."

  5. Loved your post, Lor!  I expect that Dulcinea will get a lot of similar reactions.  It took me a long time to figure out how she'd react to everything, since she's totally played in the main timeline.  That gives her a much different, if fatalistic, perspective on everything.  She's also just bright enough to realize that she isn't very bright. :P So her default stance is to assume that other people are smarter and know better than she does.  Which will eventually work out well with her being one of the weakest Aes Sedai (so she'll have to get used to following orders anyway!).  In this particular instance, she has not a small amount of embarrassment because she had an unfortunate run in with Jaydena a couple of years back for gossiping about the Greens.  So she thinks that if this isn't the normal course of events, maybe it's just an extension of her previous punishment.  And she sees how wanting to join the Ajah that she had slandered might come off as suspect!  Either way, she feels her training/probation period is probably well deserved! :D

  6. I know Raekins, hence the wink. :P

I do think it would be interesting to see some male civilians around the BT, though.  Perhaps someone who failed the testing but is unsuitable for the Legion of the Dragon?  Or more valuable as a civilian?  And you wouldn't have to worry about the whole romance thing!

  7. Shevara nodded slowly.  Well.  That certainly cleared up a few things.  There had been rumors about Zarinen for years, and apparently, they were true.  She had bonded a man who could channel.  Shevara had known that Zarinen had served a very harsh penance some years back, but since she had been out of the Tower at the time, she had never been a party to the exact details.  By the time she had returned there were at least a dozen different reasons given.  Right now she wanted to press the woman hard on exactly what had happened.  But she was Amyrlin now, and her position aside, she was not so lost to Tower custom as to interfere in another sister's business.  And penance, once served, was meant to erase the crime.

It also explained why Zarinen had approached her.  Shevara knew that there were similar rumors about her own relationships with gentled men.  Rumors that were most definitely not, in this instance, based on any fact at all.  She had crossed many more lines with her men that most Reds would consider proper, but she had never gone so far as to bond one.  To share her consciousness with a man who was slowly dying of despair?  She didn't think she had the strength.  She didn't even know the weave.  Had she known back then, would she ever even have considered it?  Perhaps.  If it would have helped them to live longer...Perhaps.

But such thoughts belonged in the past.  What Zarinen was suggesting now...Certainly it would tie the Black Tower closer to the White.  But in a positive way?  Still, the idea was a novel one.  The Red Ajah must work to prevent another Breaking.  And it was clear that gentling these men would not be permitted under normal circumstances.  The Last Battle would be soon.  It could be only months, or weeks, away.  Could they risk gentling men would could be an asset in that fight?  Whose only training was as a living weapon?  Reds bonding Asha'man would certainly give some measure of control, some way of monitoring.  But really, Reds bonding?  Oh yes, Zarinen would certainly want the approval, if not outright cooperation, of a Red Amyrlin for such an undertaking.

"Tell me more of what exactly you propose, daughter.  You cannot be suggesting simply showing up at the doorstep of the Black Tower offering to bond their men as Warders?  You do know how an unexpected arrival turned out last time," her lips firmed as she thought about how exactly that meeting had gone.  Three sisters dead, one stilled, and the rest captured and bonded.  "How do you expect to get these men to submit to such control?  You are right that the Last Battle approaches, Zarinen.  You are right that we have little time.  But is this really the way?"

  8. Dulcinea bowed her head.  What Jaydena said was all true, even without the Three Oaths Dulcinea knew that the Sitter spoke to the heart of her faults.  And deservedly so.  She had felt deep shame and embarrassment over that moment of gossip, laughing at another's expense.  And Jaydena had very firmly taught her otherwise.  Dulcinea thought that she had learned from those lessons, and indeed that glimpse into the Green Ajah is what had made the final decision for her last night.  She knew nothing of how the Blue worked, except they all worked as individuals.  She just didn't think herself smart enough, capable enough, for that life.  But was she any better suited to be a Green?  Perhaps not.  But Jaydena said that they would give her a chance to learn.  She supposed that was the best that she could hope for.  She would learn...if there was time.  Remembering everything she had seen, she just didn't believe there was.  A half-trained girl fighting in the Last Battle.  She shook her head slowly.  She really had no reasonable chance of survival.  But the Green Ajah was willing to offer her that slim chance.  A good soldier followed orders, and there was always need of more soldiers than generals.  Well, she could be a good soldier.

She steadied herself and raised her head, "I accept your judgement, Sitter.  I will learn whatever you care to teach me.  I will live, I will learn, I will fight, and if needed, I will die bound to the Green Ajah."

  9. I'm uncertain about the last bit, that those who are bonded may not hold any other bonds.  I think that this may have the unintended effect of players being unwilling to allow their Red to be bonded because it takes away the options for a future bond.  We already have had some difficulty finding players willing to have their Reds bonded (due to ranks, which is totally understandable!).  It's already hard enough for the BT members to find bondmates.  On the other hand I'm not keen to open up huge bonding free for alls.  Ultimately, given the limited number of players we have for Reds, I'm falling on the side of 'up to three bonds total'.  Which would mean they could be bonded no more than once with up to two BT Warders, or may bond up to three BT Warders and not be on the receiving end of a bond.

  10. I'm not aware of any official travelling yards in the White Tower.  I agree it is probably something that should be done (designating an official area).  In the Watcher's RP, we just used a stableyard.  The other RPs I've seen have been similar, the sisters go get their horses, and then Travel from the yard.  I assume that many sisters probably also Travel to and from their own apartments, in the interest of privacy.  Most Ajahs would probably set up an empty set of rooms within their Quarters for the purposes of making Gateways.  Given the nature of privacy/secrecy surrounding the Aes Sedai and Ajah business, I think it's likely.  As of yet, there hasn't been the need for any huge Gateways to transport a large group except for the Watcher's RP.  I would think that once it becomes more customary to be receiving visitors via Gateway that official Travelling grounds would be set up quickly.

  11. From the summary you posted, the treaty announces the equality of the Black and White Towers, and messengers were sent to every court to announce it.  This being done so that he treaty will outlive the current Amyrlin (which turned out to be a good and important thing), and be too public for the Hall to back out of later.

I was working off the assumption that Shevara, as Amyrlin, would keep to the treaty.  That being the case, she will acknowledge and reaffirm the treaty with Covai and Arath when they are there, since Brent is dead, and those two are on the new council that will be formed (and I assume included in the summary of events that Covai tells her).

  12. Covai, I was working off the information from the previous WT staff (Arie) who told me that's how it happened.  If that isn't the case, I can adjust accordingly.  I'm very sorry you feel like Watcher's was a failed RP.  I consider it one of the highlights of my DM career.  I quite enjoyed it all around.  The player attrition and staff turnover was unfortunate, but that has the tendency to happen in any major RP.

That changes the timing quite a bit, which was the important factor in this RP.  Without he bonding, there is no reason for Maegan to be involved at all, and her role can just as easily be filled by any other Aes Sedai.

I was also under the assumption that all the Asha'man who signed on to be bonded in the first wave would be there, which would include Serge, Ikki, Tavon, etc. :)

  13. From my understanding, the BT would only release the sisters they captured with the bonds intact.  Sort of an insurance policy in case they decided to come back.  And since the WT really has no way of enforcing any sort of 'release the bonds' mandate, they are still active (not that it really matters, except for this RP, since there are very few players left that were bonded).

  14. It will be right after Covai's speech that the Amyrlin will show all of the BT boys the ter'angreal from the Brother's Keeper RP.  She wants them to know what they are getting into before they agree to anything.  She will be surprised to hear about Brent, since it was with him that the original treaty with the BT was made.  She will also reaffirm the treaty with Covai and Arath.

She will agree to allowing bonds between the two Towers, or at least not forbidding it.  However, she will explain that as Amyrlin she cannot make any sister bond a man who can channel, or any other man for that matter.  And likewise she cannot make an Aes Sedai agree to be bonded by one.  Each must choose for herself, because Warders are the business of the Ajah and the individuals involved (no telling off Asha'man for Aes Sedai like in the books).  If any Aes Sedai wish to enter into a bond, she will not forbid it.  Any consequences will be for the Ajahs to decide.  As a token of good faith, she will agree to take a Warder from among the Black Tower delegation.

Asha'man who are bonded by or to any Aes Sedai may enter and leave Tar Valon freely, but they are expected to obey all laws of the city while they are there.  Any transgressions will be handled first by the bondmate in question, then by the Amyrlin and Hall if necessary (the message being, we trust you, but not too far).  The Amyrlin will reluctantly agree to the same rules for Aes Sedai at the BT.  Neither side is permitted to sentence another's member to the death penalty, and will instead turn the offender over to their proper Tower for punishment (this being important if an Asha'man goes noticably crazy and the BT has to deal with it, since they consider gentling to be a death sentence.  basically, the WT can't gentle their Warders :P).

  15. Serge will be in this group as well.

At the same time as this RP, Maegan (the former Highest, bonded to Serge) will feel him arrive in Tar Valon, and go running to inform the Highest that an Asha'man is in the city.  The Highest will grab her Sitters and go to the Amyrlin and Keeper.  The Amyrlin will send sisters to escort the delegation to her offices. :)

  16. I am looking for a few good Warders. :D I have a newly raised Green sister, who will be played entirely during the main plotline (no timeline splices to contend with!).  She isn't the brightest crayon in the box, and will need a couple of guys to keep her out of trouble.  Since the Dragon has been reborn, she knows the Last Battle is imminent, and that she will very likely die during the fight.  But hey, someone has to do it.  Her rather fatalistic outlook on life is 'live fast, die young, leave a good looking corpse.'  At this time, she would only be interested in bonding men.  She was originally approved to marry all of her Warders (ala Myrelle), but this will need approval from the Warder's Yard as well if you wish to pursue a relationship.  If you are interested in possibly bonding, we can hash out further details. :)

    Any takers?  :-*

    :D

  17. Dulcinea nodded and followed Jaydena Sedai as she led the way to the Green Quarters.  No, just Jaydena, now.  Dulcinea was an Aes Sedai also.  She fidgeted a bit at the uncomfortable tightness of the Oaths as she walked in silence.  She caught herself at it and forced her arms to stillness once more.  A smooth pace and a steady tread.  Surely she would need it now.  She knew that each Ajah had secrets, customs not known to outsiders.  That was what had made choosing among them so difficult, not knowing more than the surface.  She hoped she had made the right decision.

She was led into an office lined with shelves and shelves of books and several swords.  She looked around briefly, taking in the surroundings.  She had never been here on an errand as a novice or Accepted.  She looked back to see that Jaydena had taken a seat behnind an ornate desk with the other two Sitters standing to either side.  Of course.  The Head of each Ajah was a closely guarded secret, and it seemed that Jaydena Headed the Greens.  Interesting.  It had been Jaydena herself that had shattered her misconceptions about the Green Ajah a few years ago.  If not for that encounter, she may have chosen the Blue after all.

"Dulcinea Sedai, why have you chosen the Green Ajah as your home?"

Dulcinea hesitated, she had not thought that she would be required to explain her choice.  But why not?  Her sisters had a right to know who would be joining them.  She nodded slightly.

"The mission of the Green is important.  The Dragon has been Reborn, and the Last Battle will be soon.  I was taken on an excursion with Lillien Sedai of the White a year ago, and I saw much of the upheaval he has caused simply with his presence.  Roving bandits kill in his name.  Men who can channel have organized and walk free.  The mission of other Ajahs is also important, but I would have an active role to play, rather than research in the Tower to which I am not suited.  Healing the wounded is not for me, my Talents do not lie there.  The Reds wish to prevent another Breaking of the World," she paused, and shook her head slightly, "I do not know if that is possible, now.  The Blues and the Grays, they work with the nations to form alliances, to manipulate thrones.  For myself, I think the time for talking is past.  The nations will stand together for Tarmon Gai'don, or they will die alone."  She paused again and forced herself to look each of the sisters in the eyes before finishing, "The Green is the Battle Ajah.  You stand ready for the Last Battle, and will fight the trolloc hordes when they come.  I do not think that wait will be long, now.  Every battle needs soldiers, and I think the Last Battle will require as many soldiers as we can find."

She steeled herself as she forced out her final words, admitting weakness was always humbling at best, "I am new yet, but I have been tested, and passed, as all Aes Sedai.  I was strong enough for that, I have hope that I will be strong enough to face the horrors I know will come.  I expect to have a year, perhaps two, or perhaps only a few months to learn what I must before the Shadow descends from the Blight.  Already Kandor has been taken, and I expect others of the Borderlands will be overrun in the first assault.  New as I am, I am a thin shield indeed to stand against the Shadow.  Light's truth, I would rather not.  But it must be done, and I give myself to the fight," she met Jaydena's eyes, "Use me."
