Finished the Mistborn series. Pretty good. I've moved on to A storm of Swords with A Feast of Crows up next.
-
Just finished Mistborn and started The Well of Ascension. I really liked Mistborn. I could see those action scenes being done by Hollywood. Several people have said book two is a let down. I hope you are all wrong. We'll see. I'm only 30 pages in so it is a little early to decide.

I'll go with Eggy too. Berlain is a close second though. And them for some reason I've got a thing for Moraine.
-
Finished Dune: The Battle of Corrin. Dove into Mistborn. Pretty good so far.
-
Reading Dune for the first time.
What do you think of it so far? I am reading the Battle of Corrin right now. I liked the original series and I like these newer editions as well. It's fun to read along and see some of the things that were mentioned only as ancient history in the originals.

Just finished warbreaker. Amazing book. I loved every chapter of it.
So, did you buy it or download it? And yes it was great from beginning to end. I'd like to see more books based in this world. Seemed to be an opening with that ending. What do you think?

Started Mistborn this morning. Wanted to finish the set of Dune books I was reading but didn't have The Battle of Corrin. I'll need to stop at he bookstore this weekend. In the meantime Brandon will have my undevided attention. I like his writing style. Not sure what it is exactly. Warbreaker was fastpaced and original. I'm hoping this is more of the same. So far it is certainly original.

I was looking to read that, but my local borders only has hard copy which is like 30-ish bucks. Erf.
You can download it for free from Brandon Sandersons website. Can't get cheaper than that.

I
My goal is to finish up the Mallorean first, follow that up with Belgarath the Sorcerer and Polgara the Sorceress,
Have you read the rest of the Eddings books that feature Belgarath and Polgara? Those two books are great but I believe there may be a few spoilers in there for the other books. Can't remember for sure though. Just a warning.
I've almost finished Dune: The Machine Crusade and will have to move on to something else untill I get the next book. I have Mistborn waiting.

I just hit the half way point of "how to win friends and influence people"
Is it working? ;D

Mr Ares,
You are reading all of those? At once? You are the man! I've read as many as three at a time but I wouldn't recommend it. I like to get sucked into the story and that can be hard when there is more than one on the brain. More power to you though. Enjoy!

So, I was hoping to move on to the third book of ASOIAF but no luck. I thought my wife would be getting it for me for my b-day. Guess I'll order it and wait. In the meantime I've begun The Butlerian Jihad. I had read the main Dune series and was interested, and had the book on my shelf. Figured I'd give it a go. Can't remember If I have the next one too, The Machine Crusade. I'm actually almost finished so I need to take a look. If not, I just purchased the Mistborn trilogy so I have that to fall back on as well. Lot's of good reading coming up.

I will buy it evetually. I enjoyed it enough that as long as I can get it in hard cover I'll add it to the collection.

BTW, has there been a discussion regarding Gawyn's skill with a blade? RJ usually that a reason for giving a character certain skills. So who is Gawyn going to take out? Or, who will be forced to take him out if he don't get his mind right?
How much of the series have you read? Don't want to spoil anything for you.

Oh, I finished A Game of Thrones and started A Clash of Kings. Loving this series right now. Intriguing, disturbing, violent, graphic, funny, exciting, etc. My birthday is in a few weeks and I'm hoping my wife will be gifting me with the third and fourth books. Otherwise I will be taking a little trip to the bookstore.
-
Getting it free on his website was an added bonus too. I read it prior to TGS being released and as Talmanes says, it eased my fears of a new author taking over the WOT series.
-
The best fight scene in the series was Matt vs Gawyn and Galad. Not areal fight but enlightening anyway. The one that would have been the best had we seen it would have been Thom and the Myrdral in Whitebridge.

Just playin'. Welcome! I am relatively new myself.
-
Have you read Warbreaker yet? I downloaded it from his website. Very good. He has a knack for getting humor into his work without taking away from the seriousness of the plot. I wouldn't mind seeing more from these characters. There seemed to be an opening in the end for more story. Anyway, if you like Jason Brandon ;D, I recommend it.

I'm currently reading Knife of Dreams and will of course continue right through to The Gathering Storm. What I'll read after that I don't know yet. Was thinking about the Mistborn books by Jason Sanderson.
Jason must be Brandons pen name. ;)

Just curious what everyone is reading right now. Actually I want to hear what the last book you read was, what you are currently reading, and what you plan to read next.
After finishing The Gathering Storm I read The Princess of Landover by Terry Brooks. It was a good book. The first in that series in a long long time. Now I am reading Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. I am enjoying it greatly. I will read the next book in that series as soon as I finish that one.
So... let's hear it.

you got to rememebr that during the breaking mountains got lowered, and seas got raised. perhaps selected patches of land can also be moved.
Granted. But to have a single point, an island, move so far from where it would have been a tropical paradise to a landlocked position thousands of miles inland seems like a lot of movement considering that we're saying the maps match up pretty well. The theory here is that while the land has changed and the features have changed there is a great similarity. The breaking changed things, yes, but used the AOL world as a template. Some areas sank below the oceans other areas rose up in great mountain ranges while in still other places great mountain ranges were leveled. I think the idea is a rise and fall effect with maybe a little shifting, not a whole sale remake of the planet. I wonder if the description of this place was a goof by JR?

I love what you did here. I had thought about this when I first saw the world map in the guide. It resembles so much the world map as it is now. I think you did a fantastic job and are pretty much spot on.
However, I seem to emember that Shayol Ghul was a tropical resort location in the age of Legends. The place where the pattern was weakest and where the hole in the dark ones prison was located and where the DO could reach through and effect the world. If that is true then there has either been a lot of displacement since our age or the world temperatures were much different during the AOL (Global Warming anyone).
What are you reading?

Does Dune qualify as fantasy? I'd say it is more on the sci-fi side of fiction. They were not too bad though. Not near the best, but ok.
