  1. Finished The Last Enchantment by Mary Stewart and will begin the fourth book in the series, The Wicked Day.  I have found it very interesting how Stewart has taken many of the legends and stories about King Arthur and Merlin that have been told over the years and combined them.  Almost anyone who has shown up in the legends shows up in the book in some form. Looking forward to completeing this fourth one.

  2. Finally completed Mary Stewart's The Hollow Hills.  I will be continuing with The Last Enchantment, also by Mary Stewart, which continues the story of Merlin and and of Arthur.  Time to read is so hard to come by lately.  And when I do have time it seems I am reading childrens stories to my little ones.  While I enjoy that greatly I do wish I had the time to sit with my books and fall into a story for a few hours.  Soon it'll get cold around here and I'll have more time.  Can't wait.

  3. Finished  Cugel: The Skybreak Spatterlight by Jack Vance a couple weeks ago.  Since then I have finished The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart, the first book of her Arthurian Saga.  I am starting the second book The Hollow Hills now.

The Crystal Cave was very good.  I enjoyed the first person account of things and how the Merlin legend grows as the story goes on.  Looking forward to the birth of Arthur, I am assuming, in the next book.

  4. Just completed Mazirian the Magician and Cugel the Clever, both by Jack Vance. I will probably move on to Cugel: The Skybreak Spatterlight, also by Jack Vance next and the I believe I will read Mary Stewarts The Crystal Cave.

  5. OK.  In the last few weeks I have read several Star Wars books.  Starting with Revan by Drew Karpyshyn  Also completed Deceived by Paul S. Kemp, Fatal Alliance by Sean Williams, and Red Harvest by Joe Schreiber.  These weren't bad.  Not great by any menas but not horrible either.  I would call them a decent distraction.  I'll come back to the Star Wars stuff later.

Currently I am reading Mazirian the Magician by Jack Vance.  I believe this was previously titled The Dying Earth.  Not sure why there was a title change. Not bad so far.

  6. Finished A Memory of Light.  Great ending to the story.  Sad to be done.  Next on the list is a read of some Star Wars books.  Not my usual genre but my wife loves sci-fi stuff and asked if I was interested.  I'll take it as a change of pace.  First up is Revan, a Star Wars The Old Republic book.  Might as well do this chronologically and I guess thats the eraliest one.  At least its the earliest one she owns.  She isn't missing many titles.

  7. OK.  Finished Towers of Midnight.  I am starting A Memory of Light, finally.  Been a long journey.  Hope it's been worth it.

Actually, regardless of how this final book turns out it has been worth it.  Love the story.  In many ways these books are a literary home for me.  They comfort me and make me feel at peace.  They have been with me through most of the biggest events of my adult life thus far, one way or another.  I look forward to many rereads in the future.

  8. Finished Knife of Dreams and starting The Gathering Storm.

This will the be the first time that I have done a reread of the Brandon Sanderson volumes. I am interested to see if I can pick out any stylistic changes in the writing since I have been so into Jordans so recently.

  9. Finished Crossroads of Twilight and about half way through Knife of Dreams.  Really wish I had more time to sit and read but life has other plans I guess.  Can't wait to finish up and get to A Memory od Light.  Soon now....

  10. Finished The Path of Daggers and Winters Heart and into Crossroads of Twilight.  Doing about a book a week or so now.  The wife gifted me A Memory of Light for V-Day.  She really does love me.

  11. Recently finished Lord of Chaos and A Crown of Swords.  Half way through re read of The Path of Daggers.  I am expecting the gift of  A memory of Light for my birthday in March so I'm trying to get through these as quickly as I can now.  Tough to find enough reading time these days, sadly.

  12. Started The Fires of Heaven after completeing The Shadow Rising. Find my self skimming portions that seem like filler. I've never done that. Mainly because I don't really mind filler if it adds depth and richness to the story. But I think maybe I am getting impatient. Usually I read every word. Not so much this time through.

  13. II am in desperate need of new reading material. *begs* Any good recommendations? Doesn't have to be fantasy. I'll read most anything. (Well, almost. I felt my brain die a little when I read Twilight because all my sisters told me to.) Thanks all!

From the books I have read this year I would recommend the Blck Company books or Pillars of the Earth. The black Company being fantasy, and the other being historical fiction.

  14. Finished New Spring and have continued my reread with The Eye of the World. Decided I'd give myself a few weeks for each book. Hopefully it won't take that much time but life doesn't really allow for long reading sessions right now. Anyway, 12 books at two weeks apiece puts me into early February for completion. Not bad. A few weeks to spare before A Memory of Light comes out.

  15. Finished The Pillars of the Earth last week. Fantastic book. Definitely have to pick up Follet's sequel.

I've spent the last week doing a little professional reading, preparing for the upcoming fall sports season(I am a soccer coach on the side). A book on the 4-3-3 system of play and the I finally got around to reading the curiculum put out by US soccer. Nothing really new there but interesting anyway.

Now I am back to reading purely for pleasure. I am beginning my WoT reread. I am going to start with New Spring. I always recommend reading this book later but I feel the desire to do it chronologically this time as this will be a complete series read, beginning to glorious end.

  16. Finally finished Paolini's Ineritance. Took a long time to complete due to the birth of my second child and recovery from a recent surgery. Funny thing is I thought I would get a ton of reading done during my down time but the meds I was on made me nauseous whenever I read more than a page or so.

Not sure where I will go next. I might start my WOT re-read in preperation for the release of the conclusion. Or Maybe I'll read Pillars of the Earth. It's been on my shelf for like a year now. Tempted to re-read The Hobbit and TLoTR as well after rewatching the movies while confined to my couch. Lots of choices.

  17. Finished The Crippled God, by Erikson. Awesome conclusion. I wonder though if there won't be other books in addition to these. There seems a lot of room for more story.

I'd love to see Karsa wage his war on civilization for instance.

Some minor plot lines left gaping. I assume some of that will be used by Esselmont or Erikson some other time.

Anyway on to something new. I have Inheritance on the shelf. Might as well get it out of the way.

  18. Finished Steven Erikson's Dust of Dreams last night. Started The Crippled God. There are a lot of story lines that need to come to a close in this book. Excited to see how it all turns out.

Also reading The Invisible Man by HG Wells.
