We're all fantasy fans here, or at least I assume we are since we're here on a forum devoted to a fantasy series. So, what is fantasy? I'm not talking about the definition, but about what fantasy is to us. Why do we like fantasy? As my opening article, I figured I'd put my opinion out there.

 

Fantasy is a world in which we can lose ourselves and escape from our day to day lives. It's a world full of adventures that keeps us wanting more and prepares us for our next adventure. A fantasy world is a place for mythical creatures and powerful magic, where the unexpected happens constantly. It's a world that we can see through someone else's eyes, and maybe add to it with our own imaginations if so inclined. Basically, it's whatever we want it to be, whether it's sparkly vampires, tainted Power, the struggle of good against evil, or just an epic quest.

 

We are always looking for that next adventure, that new fix for our addiction of reading. As I post new articles, I'll occasionally post a list of current or future books on my reading list. This list may include books you've already heard of or are already reading, but don't let it discourage your chances of finding new books. I'm always stumbling across new books. I have over 200 books in my dorm room and about as many back home in storage, so my list will constantly be updated.

I havent started it yet because I'm missing random books and I'm trying to read them in order, I'm mostly doing my reread of The Wheel of Time first. I'm a bit behind on that to be honest...

Discovered Mistborn very late--haven't started reading it yet, but looking forward to it. Reading Game of Thrones right now...nothing but good choices on this list!

I just started the second tome of Mistborn today. The first one was pretty good and inventive. My next series will be something between Terry Goodkind's Sword of Thruth and R. A. Salvatore Dark Elf Trilogy

I have read all of these. All great series especially The Way of Kings and Mistborn. Brandon Sanderson is awsome. Recluce takes a little to get into but I really love the series.

My favorite series apart from WoT is "The Swans' War" trilogy by Sean Russell. It's the kind of fantasy I love.

I've read all but "A Game of Thrones". Started reading the Recluse books way back in the 80's while in the Marine Corps..... Yea, I'm kinda old...LOL. I also have read the Dragonlance and Shanara series, though not all of them. The major books by Weis and Hickman,there are alot of others. I also read Sinchana by Joshua Dudley.Very good read and IMO a different spin on the whole fantasy world.

Someone looking for a sci-fi read I highly recommend Piers Anthony-Bio of a Space Tyrant.Also Weis/Hickman Deaths Gate books.

Legacy of the Drow, by Salvatore, Dwarves trilogy, by Heitz. Jordan's "Conan" books. And the only books that I have read more than WOT, the founder of them all, "Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R.Tolkien!

These are what got me into fantasy early 90ies, as a teeanager (lil' less old ;))

I love the Saga of Recluce series.

I've thought about reading that series. How good is it? Is it written in a similar style to Jordan?

Anything Tolkien

I'm pretty new to the Fantasy world myself, but I don't ever want to leave it.
