A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

Audiobook Giveaway: The Eye of the World

Dwynwen

Macmillan Audio has partnered with us to bring you an amazing opportunity once again. We are going to give away free copies of each audiobook in the Wheel of Time series between now and when the final book is published.

On the first Wednesday of each month (and on the first and third Wednesdays of the month once we get to the final few books), I will post an audio clip for one of the audiobooks. The book featured in the clip will be the one we're giving away at the time.

As each clip is posted online, we will randomly select three winners to receive either a free digital audiobook download or a free CD. This contest is open to anybody world-wide, but non-US residents can only receive the digital download.

Entering to win is simple. Every time I post an audio clip, I will post a topic for discussion. Just post a response to the discussion question in the comments section of each news article. The winners will be randomly selected from the comments section exactly one week after I post the article.

There can be only one entry per person each time I put up an article. You cannot win more than once for this audiobook promotion.

If you are selected as a winner, I will PM you to notify you and request your contact information. Make sure to check your PMs, because if I still cannot reach you after two weeks from the date of my first PM, your prize will be given to another randomly drawn winner.

This month, we will be giving away a copy of The Eye of the World. Here's a clip from the audiobook: http://www.upload-mp3.com/files/337183_gv2tm/TheEyeOfTheWorld_Ch2webclip.mp3

This month's question is: Who is your favorite character in The Wheel of Time? You have until Wednesday, March 14 to answer in the comments section. Good luck!

Mat Cauthon all the way. Sealed the deal when he took down the grey man in the city streets at night. Talmanes and Noal would be close seconds.

Well, though she has been gone a long time, I have to pick Moiraine. She is the one Aes Sedai that supported Rand without trying to control him early in his development. She's also the first Aes Sedai to battle a Forsaken and actually defeat her (or at least fight her to a draw of sorts). All other Aes Sedai in the books so far come off as pompous and above themselves in my opinion. Certainly not my favorite characters.

Definitely Fain for being uniquely evil. His ultimate goals can be as mysterious as the DO's and the depths of his powers have yet to be revealed.

Where can you find your PMs?

There's a few different ways. From the front page, you can look at the top right corner of your screen. You'll see your name up there near the "Sign Out" button. If you have a PM, there will be a number between your name and the "Sign Out" button. Click on the number and it will take you to your PM inbox. If there isn't a number by your name, you don't have new PMs, but you can still go there. Click on your name. You'll be taken to your profile page. While there, look at the very top right corner of your screen. You'll see your name, but this time with a downward arrow by it that signifies a drop-down menu. Click on that. On the drop-down menu, pick "Messenger". That's it!

As much as I love most of the characters... Nynaeve is my favourite, followed closely by Faile. I identify with and want to smack both of them, sometimes. Nynaeve has this dedication to the people she loves and what she believes is right that I so admire and love. Her devotion to Lan and her worry that she won't see him again absolutely break my heart. I swear, every time I read a Lan bit, or a Nynaeve bit where she's worrying about him, I start tearing up. I admit: I have bawled my eyes out over Nynaeve missing Lan.

I think I'd have to say Siuan Sanche. I like how, even after being cast down, she still struggles to maintain her hold. That, and the way she acts when it comes to Gareth Bryne is just amusing.

As of the end of ToM, my favorite character is Mat. But like other people have said, that has changed throughout the books. Mat was an early favorite for me, but others took that top spot from time to time, chiefly Thom and Perrin. I'm also a big fan of Faile and Moiraine. By the end of KoD I didn't really care about any of them, but fortunately these last two book have breathed new life into the characters I've loved since middle school. And, as I said, Mat now holds that number one spot.

Nynaeve has always been a favorite of mine since Eye of the World. I think she gets passed over by others because their growth as characters is much more dramatic. The majority of her growth is internal within the series and makes her more relatable in my opinion.

Mat of course. Play hard attitude When the times are tough he is your best friend. You can try and take him down but that is where he is his best. When the odds are against him.

For me it has to be Mat. I always look forward to his story lines. So many wonderful characters though. If I was going to pick a girl to fall in love with it would be Min!

I think right now other that Rand al'Thor my favorite character to Tom Merrelin I think that there is more to his Relationship to Elayne than a friend and Her mother's former lover.

My favourite character is definitely Mat. His chapters are a nice break from Rand's Dragon Reborn-seriousness and his humour never fails to entertain me.

Leave it to me to side with the Shadow... The saw fill my vision, and I pick Moridin.

Like the characters, we have all grown and changed in the process. 18 years ago my answer would have been Rand or Lan, but now I'd lean more toward Mat, Perrin or (yes..) Egwene.

My favorite character is Dark Rand. I'm not sure how to evaluate him now without a decent POV since Veins of Gold, but I just loved how willing he was to completely destroy his enemies, especially with what he did to Graendahl. It was so dark, and yet so effective.

Perrin is by far my favorite. Not only is he the only main character not to need severe prodding to do what needs to be done, he simply sees a job of work to do and does it. Also he helped forge the only one power wrought hammer ever mentioned which hasn't been done for quite some time.

Hard to pick one, but if I must... Perrin (when he's not out looking for his wife somewhere...)

Lan.

My intent was to come up with some witty remarks as a preface, but so many people have left such great comments, I'm a little dumfounded. Thanks, Dragonmount for making this offer.

Thom. You've got to love the mustache, his back-story and the knives.
