Edana stared out the window of the tavern, her fingers tracing idle patterns on the glass in front of her. She was bored. She and a few other Tower Guards had escorted an Aes Sedai into Cairhien three days ago for some diplomatic whatever and the woman had promptly dismissed them as soon as they'd arrived at the Palace gates. Naturally, dismissed was a loose term, since it didn't mean they could actually return to the Tower and their duties there. No, they'd been ordered to sit and wait.

Ed gritted her teeth, annoyed at not having a purpose outside of being the woman's lap dog to come when she called. She'd spent two days getting the lay of the land here in Cairhien, after finding a suitable inn to park the small knot of guards in while they cooled their heels. She'd rarely ever waited patiently and this was no exception. She was on edge, though whether it was from anger at being dismissed or boredom from waiting around, she couldn't tell. It didn't sit well with her, either way you looked at it.

She eyed the Watch as it made it's hourly turn in front of the tavern, noting the passage of time and how close to regular they were in their rounds. She'd noticed they were fairly timely when there was trouble, but later in the evenings the gaps grew longer. Something about the Game, she was sure. The sun was setting now, so she marked the time they turned away in a notebook she kept on her and sighed. She'd almost hope for some trouble, just to give her an outlet for this pent up annoyance...

Being in the Tower guard was equally parts exhilarating, and equal parts infuriating... Right now was one of the latter... Rekinu had not stayed at any one place other than the Tower or his home city of Shol Arbela before, but cooling your heels waiting around so you could ride back to where you came from? Rekinu sighed, it was going to be another long night.

Being in the city meant that they didnt even have enough room to practice their weapons, and were told to be on a pretty short leash.  There was little worry of getting into trouble, most of those chosen for the mission were... less likely to random acts of violence, but after three days, any mans patience would be frayed to the point of breaking.

Ed, the leader of the Tower Guard contingent, was Across the table from Rekinu, keeping notes on the activities of the Watch, and probably just as bored as Rekinu.  They had taken turns scouting the surrounding area in the off chance that something happened, and they all knew the route to the where the Aes Sedai they had accompanied to the city by heart.  It would just take a small word from Ed to send them all scrambling there, and most sat around with their weapons near at hand.

Rekinu thumed his staff, leaning back against the wall behind him, watching the door to their right.  Ed watched the window, and he watched the door, a nice combo, the only other entrance was the door behind Rekinu to his right, that Ed was also probably eying as well.  It was a poor defensive position, but Taverns or Inn common rooms rarely were built with that in mind.  Either way, the few of them would be able to hold their own at least were something to happen.

He watched Ed mark down the latest passing of the Guard, and shortly afterwards he stood up.  With the cooling of the day, he needed a breath of fresh air.  Nodding to Ed, mostly to make sure she knew he was going to walk outside a moment, he told her "Ill be back in 5.  Need some bloody air, fresher than is possible in a building."  You cant really say you are after fresh air when you are confined in a city of that size.

Ed looked up as Rekinu stood, her hand immediately going to her sword. Her eyes flicked to the door over his shoulder, then around the room, looking for whatever pushed him to his feet. She relaxed as he mentioned needing fresh air, nodding in understanding. "Watch your back," she said cautiously. "The watch is on another round already. It makes me nervous."

She turned her eyes to the window again, noting a different crew of guards turning the corner up the street. "I'll order you a cold ale," she smiled back at him. "Hopefully, it'll help cool your heels a bit..."
