wheel of time short stories

Heh, the sheer number of LOTR movies and video games, as well as the fact that a giant chunk of modern fantasy literature is in some way or another derived from it makes it a bit difficult to compare with Wheel of Time. Wheel of Time is one series, Lord of the Rings is practically the entire fantasy genre. But even so, Lord of the Rings has had a ridiculous amount of new content added. And these forums are very slow.

We can't rely on Brandon as he has his own worlds to write in so a Ghost Writer would be a good idea.  Don't continue the story, but flesh out some of the history, offer small tidbits here and there that answer the long-time questions.

The encyclopedia will fill that void I should think. We've seen how controversial even BS's work was post TGS and how may old timers left due to the drop in quality before AMoL was even released. The last thing RJ's legacy needs is some hack writing in a shared world scenario.

But I'm posting this because I want to make a more general point. I wouldn't agree to work with someone else's characters, settings, themes, or stories, even if you held a gun to my head. That's what hacks are for. (Don't get me wrong. Being a hack can be a perfectly honorable profession. It simply isn't *my* profession.) Now, if you held a gun to the head of someone I love, I would naturally agree to anything. But I would be lying. Unashamedly. Stalling for time until I could take a whack at you. The very idea of trying to do someone else's work fills me with existential nausea.

That's my boy!

A friend of mine ahead of me in line asked RJ if he would ever do any more Conan books and he said no, he only did them because he needed the money at the time. Obviously, he doesn’t need money anymore.

Exactly. This is the biggest problem right now (regarding the online WOT community). There were so many superfans/überfans around even a few years back, and (many of) their posts were so amazing *sigh* But it is a must. (I mean the devastation; look at the big sff sites! Old timers disappeared, the boards are dying. The genre is dying, so it's no wonder but it's a very sad thing to see.)
