Hi. My name is John, i am a long time fantasy fan but have only recently been exposed to the wheel of time series.

I'm actually reading The Eye of the World as i write this right now, so i'm very much a newcomer. But you can say i am a fan already. The writing is very good, but also simple and to the point, the descriptions are great and the characters are amongst the best in the genre.

I cannot wait to read the rest of the series, and were it not that these books are massive in scope and scale i could be halfway done already.

So, i figured that since a strong community has been formed around these books i'd jump in and enjoy the ride for what it's worth. After all, you can only read these books once for the first time and i enjoy the company to help me along on the journey.

I'm a big fan of other fantasy novels such as The Hobbit (of course everyone loves Tolkien) and A song of Ice and Fire.

I also enjoy writing when i feel inspired, but nowadays i have been quite busy so no luck with that.

Is that all? Yeah, i think that's all for now. I hope to meet some of you and i hope to have some good discussions or read some interesting topics come later books.

P.S- I do so hope that this is the place to introduce ourselves. Otherwise, yeah. Sorry.

This is the right place. :)

I envy you, John. The first read is something special. Welcome to DM. I came to the series about 3.5 years ago. I would strongly advise that you avoid the discussion forums and role play area at this time so as not to have the series spoiled for you. We have lots of social groups here and you can join as many as you want. I spend most of my time in the White Tower and Warders. FYI, you cannot see all of the boards there until you join. Check out all the groups and I know you will find something to enjoy. I believe the Blue Ajah is having a thread going on right now regarding the Song of Ice and Fire. The Blues also have discussions on Harry Potter and many of us love Tolkien as well. This is a rather large site so please let us know if you need help.

Yours in the Light,

Ryrin is awesome John

Welcome to DM! I agree - I am re-reading the series, and I remember the first time I read Eye of the World. I loved it (still do) but that first time is something magical! She is also right, the book discussions will have spoilers, and the RP area is based on the books, so avoid those until you read the other books. I haven't read the last one (until I finish reading the rest of the books again ).

You can join as many of the social groups as you would like - it's fun because you meet a lot of other people who enjoy the same books and stuff, so I really enjoy them. Each group has different activities and themes. I belong to the Ogier, the White Tower and Black Towers, and the Band of the Red Hand  Come check them out - if you join different groups, you can access other forums with different activities and discussions you can't see otherwise.

Great choice in books too!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask - me or anyone, people are generally pretty welcoming here! I hope to see you around!

And I almost forgot to say - if you like writing, check out the Tinker group - Tuatha'an. They have a writing group, we discuss stuff like world building and getting started and people post what they write and stuff. There was a big group of us that did NaNoWriMo this year, it's super fun! Everyone is super friendly and supportive.

Thanks everyone. I will steer clear of spoilers, at least as much as humanly possible for a book series this long and influential.

I'm going to check the rest of the forums now.

Oh man to be a WoT newbie again ... mind you, the great thing about this series is the amount of things you pick up on your 3rd re-read, or 20th, that you didn't spot the first time round. Or things that suddenly jump out at you because you now have the context, but which seemed completely innocuous at first.

Anyhoo! Welcome to DM, John - hope to see you around for a long time to come!
