Also important to note Setalle was burned out. She can't so much as sense the source while for someone stilled it is always there beckoning. That could very well make a big difference.

It probably do make a big difference, off course someone who is burned out to always will have the longing to channel but unlike someone severed they do not feel the Source there just out of reach and they do not have a constant reminder in their heads of what they have lost, the problem though is that after how to heal severing is discovered being burned out is far more of a problem when being severed as it most likely can not be fixed, that being said that made me think about something. A channeler when in a Stedding can not even feel the Power if I do not remember things completely wrong, perhaps it would be easier for a gentled male channeler to survive or at least make him suffer less if he was shipped of to a Stedding so he would no longer feel that presence in his mind that reminded him of what he had lost constantly.
