What did Verin do to Rand in The Great Hunt?

I am reading The Great Hunt for the 5th time and for the first time had a different thought on the scene where Rand first meets the Amyrlin Seat and Moiraine and Verin are in the room also. After Rand leaves, Verin is sweating and comments that Rand was stronger than she thought he would be and the three Aes Sedai are talking about hating what they just did but accepting it was necessary. We know Verin can use compulsion and the a strong willed person can overcome compulsion. It seems to me that Verin used some sort of compulsion on Rand but found it to be more difficult than she thought it would be. Am I reading too much into this? Has this already been discussed and the conclusion found?

We later see a scene of Verin using that compulsion and the person has to first be trusting (a fellow sister and a brown to boot) and also the compulsion she cobbled together must lay along lines of thought that already exist if however they are deeply buried, something a person has thought of doing but logic, reason etc. has made them run a different course. Verin in that scene also reveals that these are forbidden weaves and was operating in the gray area while doing it. Aided the BA, but also aided Rand in some ways. It was bad enough not sharing with the entire tower that Siuan and Moiraine and Verin knew Rand was the Dragon Reborn, to use compulsion I doubt it. I believe the scene was written more to convey the presence of a very strong Taveren in the room. We can see later in Rand's visit to the tower with Egwene that everyone including the warders are a little overwhelmed by his presence.

I think you're reading too much. They were referring only to the emotional blows they inflicted upon Rand, and the dangers of loosing him on the world. Verin sweating may well have to do with the tight dance she had to play in order to get around her Oaths, and the fact that she was playing Moiraine and Siuan throughout that entire scene, not Rand.

We know only one, and that is that she wouldn't betray the Great Lord until the hour of her death. The rest may have some relation to this...

"The Great Lord of the Dark is my Master, and most heartily do I serve him to the last shred of my very soul." In the back of his mind a voice chattered with fear. The Dark One and all the Forsaken are bound . . . . Shivering, he forced it to silence. He had abandoned that voice long since. "Lo, my Master is death's Master. Asking nothing do I serve against the Day of his coming, yet do I serve in the sure and certain hope of life everlasting." . . . bound in Shayol Ghul, bound by the Creator at the moment of creation. No, I serve a different master now. "Surely the faithful shall be exalted in the land, exalted above the unbelievers; exalted above thrones, yet do I serve humbly against the Day of his Return." The hand of the Creator shelters us all, and the Light protects us from the Shadow. No, no! A different master. "Swift come the Day of Return. Swift come the Great Lord of the Dark to guide us and rule the world forever and ever. "

I believe that the hour of death part is not an oath, but a side effect of the oatrh rod. I bet an Aes Sedai would also be freed of her oaths if he knew she was going to die.

We know for fact it was because of her oath to the DO, not the oath rod.

We know for fact it was because of her oath to the DO, not the oath rod.

Aren't the Black Ajah oaths to the DO made on the Oath Rod though?

Regardless of the method used Verin makes it clear it's because of the DO, and mentions it's very odd that he would leave the loophole.
