Welcome to the Yellow Ajah!

You have joined a truely strong and noble group. It is not light work that we Yellows perform. We work miracles, day after day, and that is not a light task. I think a former Ajah Head said it best, so I will carry her words over now:

The Yellow Ajah are the Healers of the Tower. . We have been dedicated to the purpose of healing since the inception of the Tower itself.

Our ‘job title’ may seem simple, but we can be found in all corners of the world. As Warriors in the midst of battle, as Advisors to Kings and Queens, As travelers dotting every land in search of places where we can Heal and Serve. You can even look in the White Tower in our infirmary and we’ll be there tending the sick who come to petition for our help. Look to the training yards for the Warders and you will find us there as well, keeping the men and women who dedicate their lives to us free of injury. Look out into the world. The Yellow Ajah is there, healing those who need it, learning from those who know healing as well, and trying to find new and better ways to protect and heal those who have given us their trust.

Servant of all is not a title the Yellow Ajah takes lightly. We do not turn away those who ask for healing. We do not walk away from those in need. The Yellow Ajah is there for all.

Ajah Traditions

Our Previous Ajah Head had these organized so well I am mearly copying then here:

AJAH TRADITIONS:

From the books according to http://www.encyclopaedia-wot.org/

  •
  • NS,Ch12 The Yellow Ajah quarters in the White Tower are decorated in flamboyant style compared to other Ajahs.
  • NS,Ch14 The Blue Ajah is also a bit at odds with the White and Yellow over something in Altara a hundred years before. The Brown Ajah supports the White against the Blue, but supports the Blue against the Yellow.
  • TEotW,Glossary - The glossary lists the colors of the seven Ajahs. This is the first mention of the Yellow Ajah.
  • TEotW,Glossary - Yellow Ajah sisters bond only one Warder at a time.
  • TSR,Ch5 - Yellow sisters are the best Healers. They will try to learn to Heal anything.
  • TSR,Ch34 - The best Healers are all Yellow Ajah.
  • TSR,Glossary - The Yellow Ajah concentrates on the study of Healing.
  • TFoH,Prologue - The Yellow Ajah has only a minimal eyes-and-ears organization.
  • TFoH,Ch9 - Ronde Macura is an agent of the Yellow Ajah.
  • TFoH,Ch9 - A Yellow Ajah message signal is an upside-down bouquet of yellow flowers tied with yellow ribbon.
  • TFoH,Ch10 - Narenwin Barda is the head of the Yellow Ajah eyes-and-ears.
  • CoT,Glossary - The title of the head of the Yellow Ajah is First Weaver.
  • CoT,Ch12 Birgitte reports to Elayne that two sisters, Green Ajah and Gray Ajah, arrived at The Silver Swan the same day that a Brown Ajah sister left heading east and a Yellow Ajah sister left heading south toward Far Madding.
  • CoT,Ch21 The head of the Yellow Ajah is known as the First Weaver.

I've bolded the ones that are applicable to us and important.

Suggestions from Boopsy:

Upon Raising, the new Yellow sister:

  1.
  2. Yellow sisters present at a Raising embrace their new sister and give her a kiss on her left cheek (this was included in Amadine's Raising)
  3. Will receive a bouquet of Yellow flowers/herbs
  4. Will be given the keys to the 3 Infirmaries (Infirmary of the Body, Infirmary of the Mind and Infirmary of the Young)
  5. Will have access to the Yellow Ajah medicine cabinet (Whoohooo!)
  6. Will be required to plant a herb bush of choice that does not already exist in the WT garden, she will be required to provide supplies of this herb to the Infirmaries. She will also be required to explain its uses and dangers to the Yellow Ajah as part of her self introduction to the Ajah
  7. Will be brought to the Weaver's circle (Sitters and Head of Ajah) and introduced to the ways of the Yellow Ajah
  8. Will be required to work in any of the Infirmaries at least 3 days a week for her first year in the Ajah as an intern
  9. May borrow up to three books from the Ajah library of Medical Journals
  10. To ensure the Yellow Quarters remain the most flamboyant in the White Tower, all new sisters will have their rooms decorated by the last three Sisters to join the Ajah
  11. Each new sister will receive a tapestry/ornament for her room

Other traditions:

  1.
  2. Yellow Sisters will be given a Yellow dress of her choice for her fiftieth Birthday in the Ajah and a piece of gold jewelery for her hundredth. Both are sponsored by the Ajah.
  3. Upon Bonding her Warder (only one at a time), she has to initiate him into the Ajah by having him provide manual labour to any of the three Infirmaries for a month
  4. Yellow Sisters have to make at least 3 contacts within their first year with non-channeling Healers as their contribution to the Ajah Eyes and Ears
  5. All Yellow Sisters have to attend an annual meeting where drinking is involved(YAY!), as well as a general exchange of new Healing knowledge, either in the form of new herbs, new weaves or new patient care methods. Failure to do so will result in Infirmary duty.
  6. Yellow Sisters have to be attached to one of the three Infirmaries, but may switch from one to another once every three years. Some sisters may choose eventually to stay with either one of the Infirmary for life. After 50 years, these are known as Doctors of their respective Infirmaries. They command more respect within the Infirmary than other sisters who move from one to another. They are the ones who are consulted when things go wrong.

Weaves that are known to the Yellow Ajah only:

  1.
  2. Weave to throw your voice as a whisper to a particular person in a distance. He/she maybe in a crowd, but only he/she can hear the voice and noone else can.
  3. Ability to unHeal. A dangerous weave which causes wounds to open and fester immediately
  4. Ability to make a person happy. In the Books, the Blue have a weave to induce fear, but inducing happiness maybe useful to Healers and I thought it might be good for a Healing Ajah to have this.
  5. Ability to cause someone to fall into a deep sleep. Again, useful for Healers when they want a patient to rest.
  6. Ability to make hair and nails grow on an animal or a person. Totally useless, but fun anyway.

Please post suggestions for us to add to the list!
