Returning for Talyn

Demus had become quiet at the question of his relationship with Cari, but he had simply let it pass as Aiden answered for him. He was rather grateful he wasn't going to have to explain because his relationship with Cari was one that caused no end of trouble for him to sort out. He had tried, really, but in the end it came down to trusting her and wanting to be around her. That's all that really mattered to him. She was a great woman who happened to serve the same Masters as he and that eased a lot of trouble. There were no questions when Nathan asked for them to travel, no concerns about what to say and what sort of lie to tell. One thing he had learned before meeting Cari was that a life of lies took it's toll. It was nice to have a place to call home and friends he could be honest with.

 

Of course, Fawne kept up with her questions, satisfied with Aiden's answer as well and he just listned as she and the other's talked. It was an interesting interaction to say the least when Fawne mentioned coming to the Ranch. He wasn't sure how Cari felt about Fawne coming to the Ranch but he gave a discreet squeeze to her thigh just for support. It never hurt to reming her that she had a friend at times like these.

 

Dinner quieted down after that, though the kids talked of who could room where and all the things they could teach Fawne. He hadn't seen that that excited before and it tickled him. Honestly, the way Aiden had talked about him had made him feel a hundred feet tall. He had always hoped that he wasn't making a mess of things by hanging out with her and her kids, but there was always a fear that he might mess up. He'd never really been around kids before. Cari hadn't seemed to mind though and he knew she'd have kicked him out the door if he was bad for them. Still, it was nice to know that Aiden though well of him.

 

The kids looked to be getting tired and Demus wondered if Cari wanted to end the evening just yet, or if she wanted to continue, minus a few. He leaned over and spoke lightly. "The rugrats seem to be sleepy. Want me to get them to bed so you can stay here?" He asked, trying to give her whatever space she needed to deal with Fawne and her other mother.

Cari nodded to Demus but spoke out loud instead of just to him. "I think it's time we retire." Cari turned towards Fawne and Elia. "We will be leaving in a days time at dawn. Tonight would be a good time for you and Elia to say your farewells and spend the last remaining day together as a family." Cari was surprised at how easily she'd said that word about Elia. "You can spend tomorrow night with us and we'll leave at dawn. Bring whatever you wish to, we'll make the room."

 

Cari picked up Kate and Taylor rushed for the room. "If there is no problems with the arrangements I will wish you all a good night." Cari indicated to Demus to take Aiden who was lazily sitting in his chair about to fall asleep.

 

Cari hoped Fawne would stay with Elia tonight, it was only fair.

OOC: Since Elia left DM, there is little point in me RPing the goodbye for Fawne from home, so instead I'll reflect on that in a later RP. Consider Fawne part of the family! :)

Demus and Cari took the children to bed after bidding Fawne a farewell for the night. Cari was still unsure of the next few months as Fawne learned to adjust to their living situation. It was a shame she couldn't offer a better circumstance, Cari worked alot on the ranch and traveld alot as well. It was the price you paid for being good at your job.

 

Cari put the children in their bed and tucked them in, saying good night. Then returned to the room her and Demus shared. She closed the door behind her. "I've something for you on the bed. A gift of gratitude and congradulations in your training thus far."

 

Cari was proud of Demus and hoped that he'd only get better as time went on.

The night had been long as such things with family normally were, but he could tell there had been some strain on Cari. Dealing with the situation must have been hard, her daughter sitting with her other mother and trying to keep the peace through it all. He hoped his presence there had helped her. He was never sure what Cari though of him but he knew their friendship meant something to them both. It was enough to know that she wanted him there for that, if nothing else.

 

As they got back and settled the kids in he followed Cari back into their room. Her words stopped him and he looked over on the bed to see a small black bag. He smiled over at her then went to the bed and sat down on the edge, taking the bag in his hand. The weight and feel of it gave away it's contents and as he opened the bag, he let the dagger free. Picking it up he marvelled at it for a moment. The blade was well balanced with a good grip. Across the base was masteful etchings of briars. It was an expensive piece of work and he looked back at Cari.

 

"I don't think my training deserves this. I should be buying you such things for putting up with me this far." He said with a smile. "Thank you."

Cari smiled at Demus, it was highly unlikely that he didn't deserver it. He was progressing well and it was always good to show your students they are, but the gift was many faceted, those of which she told him, and yet another. "It's also a thanks for being a friend, when I needed one." She didn't mean just today, or this trip, but in the past and future as well. Demus was far more a friend than even Alex was.

 

Cari walked over to the side of the bed Demus was sitting on and sat behind him, kissing his cheek lightly and then wrapping her arms around him. She would never have been able to do that with Yrean and probably not even Alex with out a highly sexual undertone. Demus was comfortable in all ways but one, and even that Cari was willing to overlook. You're starting to act like Kayla. Head over heals in love are we? Cari shook her mental head ans she rested it on Demus' back.

 

He was more than a friend but she didn't know how far that extended, sure he was a good lover, but the thing that topped it for Cari was he was a darkfriend, there was nothing she couldn't keep from him. Cari was confused about the man in her arms and she wondered if he was as well or if he even bothered to notice there was more than a friendship there.

 

It had been a long day. Fawne and Elia, Yrean and Aran, Cari wasn't up for a long night of discussion she was just grateful Demus was there and she took comfort in his presence.
