Dinner with Brandon

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago, the Dallas Tower Guard had the opportunity to get together once again with the man behind the final chapters of our favorite fantasy series.

For those of you who were unaware (and don't feel bad if you were, cause I admit I was too), the weekend of Feb 18-20 was the tenth annual ConDFW, a one hundred percent volunteer-run, literary-focused science fiction and fantasy convention created by the Texas Speculative Fiction Association. How I didn't know about this Con is beyond me, cause it was a good deal of fun and was quite honestly very well put-together by a base of fans who are truly faithful to the genre. More to their credit, being the wise and awesome folks that they are, they snagged Brandon Sanderson as one of their panel Guests of Honor.

Since he was going to be in town for the weekend, Brandon agreed to meet up with us for dinner on Saturday night. And, since we are in Texas, we went out for Mexican food. Now, you would think that we spent the meal trying to think up questions for the author that would not be R.A.F.O.ed immediately. And you would be right. I mean, how could we pass up the opportunity? But, to be honest, that wasn't all we did. We had a great talk about other books we were reading, and about the future book tours for Memory of Light. We discussed the merits of bookstores versus ebooks, and we talked about rereading the whole series. Again. As we all do. All and all, it was an evening of fine literary conversation and delicious, delicious enchiladas. What more could you ask for?

Well, I could ask for a chance to play Magic the Gathering with Brandon. Which I did. And he agreed. So I got to play a few quick games with him after dinner, which was a lot of fun.

I think I speak for the whole Guard when I say, “Thanks again, Brandon! You are a gentleman and a scholar.”
