in Afrikaans it's driekant (three-side), square is vierkant (four-side) and so on

 

Aaand now triangle doesnt seem like un real word any more...

 

today I realised the Afrikaans word for thank you (dankie) was just a corrupted spelling of "dank u" which is thank you, but a formal, archaic "you"

 

 

English: -angle

Afrikaans: -kant/side

Deutsch: -eck (corner) XD

 

I wonder if Germans and Afrikaans-speakers will just be able to easily converse with each other, tis so similar o.o

and nooooooooooooooooooooo, being able to pick out single words and possible etymological paths is very different from oral comprehension

 

in smaller words: just because some words are the same or similar does not mean one could understand free-flowing speech
