Many strains of MDR (Multi Drug Resistant) and XDR (Extremely Drug Resistant) TB exist because of mismanagement of TB patients. When patients do not complete their full course of treatment they run the risk of allowing the bacteria time to adapt a resistance to the bacteria. MDR TB has developed resistances to multiple conventional TB drugs and XDR TB has developed multiple resistances against MDR TB drugs

TB usually infects the lungs but it can also affect other parts of the body such as the brain kidneys or spine
