The Ogier Great Stump was convened to discuss 'opening the Book of Translation' and that begs the question "What is the Book of Translation? Is it actually a device, or just a book with knowledge of how to do something? IIRC they talk about it as though opening it would cause them to leave this world behind (like the elves from LOTR). Maybe it is a Magical Item from the same age as the HoV. How does it work and what exactly would be the repercussions from opening this book?

 

Just a point of interest. Translation could be an alternative term for a method of travel. Just something I noticed

The only 'unnoticed' item that really sticks out to me is in regards to Jur Gradys son. Perrin and Grady are talking about Grady going home to visit his wife and son. Perrin says something to the effect of 'he must be a fine boy'. And Grady says no he is extremely ugly. I think we have found Birgitte's Gaidel Cain. Don't know if this counts as big, but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else. (I only listen to the audiobooks, so I can't give page numbers)

Still, imagine every child playing that game since the day it was made. The game has probably been played multiple times more then the number of people that have visited the finns.

 

And about sociopathy, I don't believe we can tell anything from that one POV. There are many indications from earlier books that Olvers behavior is anything but sociopathic.

In LOC we are in Rand's POV. He refers to the 'a boy of four'. It could be reasonably argued that that is Rands opinion. Not what he knows from the Gradys. In TOM, chapter 10, Grady not only describes his boy as ugly, but 'large for his age'. Without actually giving the age. I suppose BS could just be throwing this out and laughing up his sleeve at us, but I think not.

It could be Rand's opinion, but LOC3 is about three months after Gaidal disappears. Even if ensoulment happened at birth, I doubt anyone could mistake a three-month-old for a four-year-old. And, in Jordan's world, ensoulment happens sometime in the fetal stage, so Gaidal would not have been born yet. Terez is right; there's no way Grady's son is Gaidal.

I'm reasonably sure that Brandon threw that in there just so everyone would go crazy over a new Gaidal Cain suspect (because I'm sure Brandon knows full well that most of you guys wouldn't remember the kid being mentioned in LOC...hell, I barely remembered it).
