The Ashes (Cricket)

I am surprised nobody has started a thread yet! So time to end that!

And as an England fan, it's all pretty good news at the moment! After years of hurt down under in trying to either regain or keep the Ashes, it's great to see England putting in some dominant displays. After a poor opening day in the first test, it's good to see everything is coming together nicely. Cook scoring runs for fun; Pietersen joining in the fun; the bowlers working well as a unit; some top class fielding as well; and Captain Strauss at the helm.

Hopefully my optimism of retaining the Ashes in Australia won't be destroyed! 300+ runs ahead in the second test, we should win if we can bowl the Aussies out (who are in total disarray accept for Mike "Mr. Cricket" Hussey and Brad Haddin) again.

Yay - a discussion I can understand and could contribute to if I didn't hate cricket.

Cricket is like golf, tennis and all those boring sports unless it's the final few overs of a one day match but even then it is suspect.

As an Australian I couldn't care less what happened in the Cricket. The sooner it's over the sooner we're back to the Rugby League season - a sport where stuff actually happens.

So all you non-cricketing nations if you're an insomniac and can't find a cure try to find a channel broadcasting cricket.

That said take up cricket, other than soccer/futbol/football it'd have to be the most played sport in the world. A billion or two play it anyway.

And now my cognitive dissonance is showing so I'll go now. Bye!

PS. For cricket fun follow @theashes on twitter - a personal account with little at all to do with cricket but the poor gal has been harassed something aweful about it.

Each to their own.

I tbh find rugby league awful to watch most the time.

U get the odd good game where they actually pass it instead of charging into the nearest player...

That news story about the american lady just made me laugh

I wish I cud have posted after her 'I'm not a fricking cricket match'

No your a cricket series...

Going well so far! A double ton in each test so far and Pietersen finally picking up his game in a big way. Graeme Swann and James Anderson are giving the Aussie batsman a massively tough time. It's all good.

We did lose Stuart Broad to injury, which stinks though.

I think the near perfect fielding has given the bowlers and batsmen a lot to work with.

That said, Brad Haddin didn't look all that good in Adelaide, either not on top of his game or just had a bad day.

That's how I find Rugby Union

Anyhow back to the cricket which I've managed to avoid seeing any of so far.

That's a good thing. I'll end up seeing the boxing day test of course.

So, who will replace Broad? Tremelett, Bresnan or Shadzad? None seemed to impress in the bowling in the latest 3 day game.

As for Australia, what on earth is this policy of testing unknown spinners? Fist Xavier Doherty, and now Michael Beer, who has played just 5 first class matches. Though Steve Smith is more likely to play. And all the changes shows there is no confidence in the line up. I can see Mitchell Johnson going for more runs in the next test...

  • 4 weeks later...

Not many

South Africa and India are nailed in at 1 and 2 atm.

All I can say about the Aussie spin selection is this....

Why not Hauritz (the guy did okay in England and seems to be their best spinner anyway!)

I think England will stay third.

The omission of Hauritz was madness. Doherty was out of his depth, and Beer might have a future. I think Australia have problems all over the place, except maybe at wicket-keeper. Haddin is sound, and Tim Paine isn't a bad back-up.

Anyway, time for England to get the last remaining wickets and then we can celebrate properly!
