Character Name: Vulrick Cocoen Gushard

 

Division: Seanchan [NSW]

Physical Description: 5'9, slim yet toned build, tanned skin, green eyes. His head is shaven except a crest of black hair. The nails of his little and pinky fingers are painted green and silver, his house colors.

Character History:

 

Born into the High Blood, Vulrick's destiny seemed set on a straight path to glory. From his childhood he was educated to fight, to plot, and to rise above others, contending for favor from his mother. By the time he was seventeen two of his brothers had been killed through his planning, and he had personally slain his sister by the time he was nineteen. Now only his younger brother is alive, but Vulrick does not count him as any real threat, as he sees his younger brother as being rather unintelligent and lacking in cunning.

 

For all his deviousness, Vulrick as a High Lord is also known to be firm yet fair with those who serve him and with those of the Lower Blood. Those who know of him know he is not easy to cross--certainly no more than any other Blood--but it is said he is sei'taer, having much face or honor. He had twice been sent on important campaigns in Seanchan for the Imperial Family, and after his grand successes in leading those campaigns he was given the honor of leading the Hailene. During this time a Seeker for Truth named Visant Shogo was sent to watch him, to make sure he was what he seemed, loyal but not overly confident. High Lord Gushard, however, did not like a Seeker being so close to him for so long, and after a few years Shogo seems to have mysteriously disappeared.

 

It should be noted that part of his success with military campaigning was due to a skilled and handsome general named Sefros Rhapsody, though after these great successes, he was chosen for an honorary role in the Deathwatch Guard, and was plucked from High Lord Gushard's service five years before he was chosen to lead the Hailene. After Shogo's disappearance and Gushard's own successes, the Imperial Family didn't want to take too many chances, yet still awarded him another chance to prove his loyalty to the Empire.

 

His goal now is to serve the Empire and reclaim what was once theirs. Not that he wouldn't be getting ambitious later, of course--but at his current age of forty-two, he is in no rush to overstep himself. At least not yet, but that will certainly come in time. Vulrick Gushard wants to be raised to the Imperial Family itself, and perhaps after that, after some more time of careful planning, perhaps then the Emperor. After all, ambition is probably expected on his part, if not overly so, and he plans on riding out that balance very carefully. But for now, he makes his successes one careful yet bold move at a time.
