Discuss Prologue Through Chapter 5

I'm mid chapter 4 now (at work so can't listen to it) but I have to say that Egwene really pissed me off so far! Without knowing a complete history of the events that took place when LTT was trying to seal the prison (after all, the victors write the history, and female AS were victors of that conflict by default to some degree) she just says "NO!" off hand. How about listen to a man for a change?! I don't know what's he planing yet, but this arrogance is just driving me insane. And "handle Wise Ones"?! First, I want to see that happen, and second, maybe WS should hand AS?! At least they have some brains in their heads. God, I can't wait for Egwene ask them for help to handle Rand and their response to her. Maybe they can remind her that her precious WT is not the center of the universe and not a very good source of ideas in the first place!!!!!!!! :breathing heavily:

Well, thanks for letting me vent....I'm tired now....

I agree for the most part. On the other hand, Rand didn't exactly offer to explain himself, and remember, everyone still thinks he is mad. What a thing to throw out there(breaking the seals) and walk away. They both might be better off if they would make an attempt at understanding the other. And yes, I think Egwane may plan on integrating some wise one wisdom into the white tower routine. They would be awesome, as I believe it was the wise ones who made Egwane into the leader they all needed.

...Also, why could Ishamael "relate to" Rand? What exactly did happen to him back in the AoL that caused him to become the "Betrayer of Hope?"

I think Ishamael's past is going to be a big important part of the end.

You know, when I read this particular passage, I was struck by it. What may have Ishy done that was similar to Rand balefiring a manor that had innocents in it as well as a Forsaken? At first thought, there is no hints of it anywhere, in any of the books, so we have to speculate as to what it is.

However, what about the very first time we meet LTT and Ishy? It is assumed that LTT is the kinslayer because of what Ishy says? But, what if that has always been a lie?

Yes, LTT may have become mad because of the taint, but he MAY never have actually killed anyone. Perhaps Ishy was the true killer, as LTT accuses him of being, but the 'healing' that Ishy performed on LTT implanted memories of LTT doing it?

Ah, bloodknives!

Luckers, if it is so, how much longer do you figure one of these doomed assassins might live? And, if it is one or more of them, they must eventually die and the murders cease.

I have to add that I had a better impression of Gawyn here, though he is still wrong about Rand. He seems to be trying hard to work through the obstacles to his relationship with Egwene.

Jemron, don't forget also there was a mention of the Seanchan prophecy of a Wolf King during their temporary alliance with Perrin during the planning of the attack on the Shaido. But there was nothing in that about his death, rather that he was a sign of the impending Last Battle.

In regard to the Rand/Egwane confrontation, I loved it. Some fans were concerned as to Rand's machoness and awesomeness after the preview to chapter 1. I don't think anyone is in doubt anymore. He appears to have found a great balance between serenity and bada**. At first I did find it a bit underwhelming, and then decided that this was a great demonstration of how the new Rand will do business; straight to the point, in control, unquestionable, and determined. By making it short yet respectful, he is leaving no room to be pushed around or manipulated while making it clear that we are on his terms now. Love the new confidence.

I asked this question in the 1-15 discussion gonna ask it here too.. How the heck did Rand recognize Suain? sisters who knew her for 20 years didn't even know who she was after she was stilled and healed again, But Rand walks right up to her and says "what's up?" after only ever seeing her for about 10 minutes a couple years ago.

Rand witnessed (from stealth) the meeting in TAR where the Salidar AS summoned Egwene to them. Siuan was there, she made the TAR map that showed Egwene where to go, and she was called by name there.

At least, that's my take.

Hmmm... this makes sense. I k new there had to be something that happened that I had forgotten about, something kinda obscure.

Oh, and the letter that Tiana hands him, which is obviously from Verin, is a reminder that when she gave one to Mat she had a packet of others and we don't know how many of them she wrote.

Could it be that the one to Rand is about Elza? Or maybe about Taim? I suppose we may find out soon!

I think Rand has some new ability where he's basically able to "see the soul" of a person. Weird, yes, but possible. Maybe he can see people as they are seen by the Pattern. Also, with Lews Therin's memories, maybe he knew what signs to look for in a person who had been stilled/gentled after being bound by the Oath Rod. Maybe he recognized the signs in Siuan.

Later it seems like he's able to see other things about people too...
