Partition on SDHC Card

I know there are some guys out there who will be able to help me on this one. I am a total simpleton when it comes to PC Terminology etc, so please keep any advice to as basic a level as possible.

 

I have a Canon Powershot camera and I have found a firmware hack that will give this point n shoot camera an almost professional performance. This involves creating a bootable SD card formatted to FAT16 which contains the firmware so that the camera isn't affected in any way. This would be simple if my card was < 4Gb as, apparently that is the maximum for FAT16. Therefore I need only create a partition of about 64Mb to contain the bootable data and the firmware for modding my camera into a super camera... Kinda.

 

I have read many a post on various forums specialising in this but when it comes to actually creating the partition, everyone assumes that creating a partition is common knowledge and I just feel baffled by technobabble.

 

Any help would be much appreciated.

1. I have an 8Gb SDHC

2. I need to create a 64Mb Partition.

3. I am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit.

You can try using Partition Magic program to work it. Try to find a way to use windows fdisk command (which isn't part of any NTFS Windows systems). Try using DIsk Management in Windows 7?

Well, to be honest partitioning a device inside the windows might be a bit tricky. You might wanna try doing what SameVimes said or some other program similar to that. If you have to buy it than...you might wanna try getting a trial version or something (i'm not going to say anything else on that subject ).

 

Now, if you are not afraid to get your hand dirty a bit you might wanna try using linux system. Download Ubuntu 10.10 and run is as a LiveCD (that way there is no installation or anything). These days linux is very simple to use (even less complicated than windows in some ways). Than just google partitioning SDcard in linux and you'll be amazed of the amount of informative and very straight forward tutorials of how to do it in Ubuntu.
