Stupid question in book 2 tgh regarding rand and "the g

I know your gonna think im stupid but why doesn't rand hurin and loial just leave and go about their way and look for ingtar....the game is obviously the hunt correct? i mean he has like 50 soldiers escorting him to cairhieren (spelled wrong i know) then they get there and they are still up his butt......so why doesnt he tell tavolin to back off? sorry if this is stupid but i want to know if im missing something.....and this selene girl definately is not who she says she is i know that much....

Ok, so I'm guessing you're reading the books for the first time. So some of those questions can't be answered.

 

But as to why Rand doesn't leave Cairhein is because he knows that Ingtar is headed to Cairhein and so is the Horn. He can't abandon Ingtar and his friends because Ingtar is the leader of the Hunt. The game is "The Game of Houses" and has nothing to do with the hunt for the horn. The Game of Houses is the movement of houses to gain more control, money, and power. It's political movements to gain the throne or whatever. The hunt is simply the hunt for the Horn. I don't know who Tavolin is, I think you may be spelling that wrong, or he's just under a different name in the encyclopideia.

 

The people in Cairhein believe Rand is some great lord because of his sword and the way he's dressed, and the fact that he has people under him. They want to gain him to their side, or kill him depending on what it is he intends to do in the city and what implications that may have on their houses. It's this behavior which is why most of the rest of the world hates the Cairhein's.

Tavolin was a leuitenant under the Cairhienin captain who was in charge of the Choedan Kal (giant statue) project. His name, i believe, was Caldevwin.

Yes luckers you are correct and thank you kadere for the thorough explanation! I just wanted to know about the game...it makes sense to me now...plus I read more and Thom Merrilin is alive! I knew the fade didn't kill him and I'm glad...ok gotta go...thanks.
