The Rules

1. Read the title of the thread before posting. We will be very clear where the spoiler limit is--do not post spoilers from chapter one in threads that say Prologue Spoilers Only or we will be very cranky.

2. Cracking a joke is never wrong, everyone loves a good laugh. But threadjacking by having post after post after post with jokes turns jokes into spam, and no one likes that.

3. PG-13 rules apply as some of our members are quite young.

4. Play nice and have fun.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What's Towers of Midnight?

Towers of Midnight is the 13th book in the late Robert Jordan's epic Wheel of Time series. It was completed using his notes and outlines by Brandon Sanderson. Sanderson was handpicked by Harriet McDougal, Jordan's wife and editor to complete the series. Additionally, Sanderson is being assisted by Alan R. and Maria S., who worked with Jordan on the previous novels. Alan and Maria are responsible for maintaining the continuity of the series.

2. Wait. Why is it Towers of Midnight? What happened to A Memory of Light?

Before his death, Robert Jordan announced that the series would be completed with a single, massive novel tentatively titled A Memory of Light. After working on the manuscript for over a year, it became apparent that Sanderson could not complete the series in less than 800,000 words. To give you some perspective, the longest book in the series to date, The Shadow Rising, clocked in at 393,823 words. Outside of WoT, Atlas Shrugged is 645,000 words and War and Peace is 560,000 in the English translation. This would create a book that was unbindable. The decision was made to divide the material into three portions, each published as a standalone novel, complete with prologue, epilogue and at least two major climaxes each.

3. Why not call them all A Memory of Light?

There had been some talk originally of the books being titled "A Memory of Light I: The Gathering Storm", etc. but the computerized system booksellers use now only has room for so many characters. All three books would show up in the system with the same title, so this solution is unworkable.

4. So what will books 12 and 14 be called? Will one of them be A Memory of Light?

Yes. Book 12 was titled The Gathering Storm. Book 14 will be titled A Memory of Light.

5. So when will the books be published?

The planned release date of Towers of Midnight is the 2nd of November. The tentative release date for A Memory of Light is around spring 2012, but bear in mind these things can change.

6. So tell me about this Brandon guy. Is he cool? What else has he written?

Well, Brandon's a big dork. Just like all of us. He has a Master's degree in Creative Writing and teaches part time at BYU in Provo, Utah. He loves the Wheel of Time series and credits Jordan with inspiring his own writing. He's been nominated for the Campbell Award twice, and The Hero of Ages, the third book in his Mistborn trilogy reached the New York Times bestseller list in October 2008. He has written a standalone novel, Elantris, and the aforementioned Mistborn trilogy. He had another standalone novel come out recently, Warbreaker. Warbreaker is was previously published as a free download on his site, BrandonSanderson.com, and is still availliable in the media as of 5/1/10.

VoG - confused the crap out of me for a while - I knew what it was referring to by context (Rand's epiphany at the end of tGS) but finally connected the dots that it was the title of the chapter where said epiphany occurred.....

"Veins of Gold"
