Rand, Cadsuane, & Taim

Hello all!!  I am fairly new here, and have really enjoyed reading all the discussions that takes place.  I am on my 3rd read through (currently in middle of KoD) and there is something that kind of irks me.

So Rand seems to start deteriorating into madness as early as book 3.  One thing he does not show a lot of however is fear of individuals.  He faces down Ishmael 3 times, Belal, Rahvin, Sammael and beats them all (yes, sometimes with help).  Then enter Taim in Book 6 and latter Cadsuane.

It seems to me Rand/LTT shows some unwarranted fear/paranoia of both of these characters (on a side note, i think both are great).  I get that he is going mad, and maybe that is all it is, but even suffering from all that he has been through he goes and faces Sammael seemingly with nothing but righteous justice on his mind, not fear or paranoia.  I would get it if he was acting cautious or being wary of them, but not the extent of what he shows.

How then do two charachters who certainly pose less of a threat to him than Sammael did bother him so?  Just wanted to see if there were any other thoughts on this.

from a personal point of view  :P

i think its easy to deal with a definite enemy as opposed to a possible allies/maybe opponents.

Cadsuane and Taim are both 'on side' or are they? this leads to all the paranoia etc.

well, it does in my opinion. . . not that anyone cares  :P

Another thought - not that I necessarily disagree with you - is that he's dealt with the Forsaken before, many times perhaps, as Lews Therin. Cadsuane and Taim are new variables to be accounted for.

The thing with Taim is, he has to trust in Taim in order for the BT to work, and the Asha'man are essential to victory in TG. Yet at the same time, his instincts (aka LTT) tell him not to trust Taim. Shoulda listened to the guy, Rand...

when you need someoen so much you turn a blind eye

I think rand is very cautious about those two because rand cannot be sure of them and because he knows he needs both, so he has to be around them but cannot be sure of them. Plus as LTT he has seen people who he trusted and brought close as friends betray him =

Taims mannerisms when he first shows up are made of suspiscious. Aside from that he shows an arrogance that Rand cant ignore. Rands paranoia over someone who learns too fast was well justified and yet the person he is putting in charge because there is no other living candidate for the job shows the qualities Rand was wary of from the word go, thats why Rand is so wary of Taim and not the others. He can recognise the others and hunt them down; Taim is in a powerful position that could ruin everything and he gets on Rands nerves.
