I'm meercatman, of the Archers regiment (the best one, (hint hint nudge nudge * coughs "choose it"*)), and welcome to the wonderful Org that is, the Band of the Red Hand!  ;D I'm sure our trustworthy band leader Corki will be around in a moment with the Official Spiel! In the meantime, feel free to explore the Band, and tell us a little about yourself, like why you chose to be named after the most awsomest character in the WoT.

Hi there; you'll have to put up with people like Meercatman, trying to sway you to join there particular regiment, you'll have plenty of time to decide as you'll end up being a Raw Recruit like me with all the regiments for a while which is a laugh. You may need to brace yourself for the old official spiel though it normally takes it out of you. Feel free to post on one or two of the boards whilst your waiting though.

Welcome to the Band Lord Mat.  As for swaying there is no need to convince anyone here that you have joined the best Org available on DM.  We have fun, which is the most important thing, but more importantly we have our esteemed Marshal General-Corki!  You will never encounter a better org leader than the Corkster, but be careful, there has been cases in the past when there were doppelganger MG's running around, so be sure you are talking with the original before you listen to what he has to say. ;)

 

Me, I'm Vorkia, a long-standing member of the Archer regiment and well known for....well many things, and probably not many of them are very nice.  We are all pranksters, but the archers take it to the next level.  (well we use to, not sure if we still do since i've been away for a while but regardless, with my return it will come back if I have to find someone's ear and drag them by it). 

 

Now if all goes as expected, you will hear from members of all three regiments telling you all about how they are the best.  The Cavalry will say something about how great their horses are, but personally I haven't met a horse that doesn't smell like manure. Then they will say that their Bandy is the best drink, but they will refuse to tell you what their secret ingredient is the same thing that gives their horses that wonderful oder I just spoke about.  The Infants (infantry) will boast how well they walk using their own feet and how they can keep up with any horse, but they won't tell you about the blisters on their feet and the lovely smell of the latrine they live next to.  They will try to buy your loyalty by getting you drunk off their Guinnfantry, but where do you think the water from the latrine goes?  Yup, you guessed it, into their regimental drink they love so much, but it will put hair on your chest (even the women's).  The archers will put their two cents worth in as well, we are the assassins of the band, sharp shooters all around and we have no problem showing you this when we offer you our firey drink- the flaming shots-- when we shoot it with a blazing arrow to light it up.  *pours a FS and demonstrates, then hands the drink to Lord Mat*  For you, a welcome to the band, drink up and enjoy, but becarful, it packs a punch.  The archers don't have to march all over the place nor do we have to spend hours treating animals like our long lost children, so we have time to have fun by playing pranks on everyone-including each other. We also just plain rock!

 

But you will have time to see for yourself before you decide to join a regiment.  As a Raw Recruit you will spend time with each one.

 

One final thing, our ever victorious MG (if its the real one) will give you the Official Spiel.  This information is the most highly anticipated post of all.  No one enters the band without experiencing its awe and being dumbfounded by its excellence.  Prepare yourself young Lord Mat, for you well never experience anything like it again.

A big "whoops" here, since I have forgotten to post the Official Spiel (and say "hi"), so time to kill two birds with one stone post!  ;D

 

Firstly, welcome to the Band! Great choice! Now I hope you are holding on tightly for the Official Spiel is on the way!

Welcome Lord_Mat! An email explaining important information about the Band is currently sitting in your inbox! Take a read! Also check your PMs too! ;)

 

Basically, the Band of the Red Hand is the Travel and Music ORG at DM! By signing up for the Band, you have joined the successful Raw Recruit Scheme. By signing up for the off board site, you will be able to experience the whole process to the maximum! The Under-Commander, Direwolf Jon, will assign you to one of the three Regiments (Archers, Cavalry, Infantry) for a week, where you will be given various tasks to perform, hoping that you will get a picture of what time in each Regiment is like. After a week with each Regiment, you will be asked to pick your final choice of a Regiment.

 

While being a Raw Recruit, there is nothing stopping you from earning points like any other Band member. Points lead to promotion within the Band. Below is a list of possible ways to earn points:

 

- writing reviews on places to visit/holidays you have been on

- writing reviews on music albums and gigs

- writing restaurant reviews!

- replying to other people's reviews and asking questions

- composing Jak O' the Shadow verses

- getting articles published in our monthly newspaper, The Hornsounder

- posting in the monthly roll call in the Band's private boards here at DM

- any DM project we may have, which includes our Quote Project (speak to Amavia and Angyl)

- and much much more I cannot think of right now!

 

If you complete your time as a Raw Recruit within 3 to 4 weeks, you will get a special award (called the Raw Recruit Stripe) which you can add to your siggy as well!

 

While being a Raw Recruit, you get 3 free strikes. This enables you to break Band Law 3 times without being punished by the Redarms, the Band's very own police force. If they see any Law breaking, they will either drag you up for a trial or give you a fun spot fine to do (usually 100 lines of something witty). Channeling is a major no-no in the Band. As is spilling Battle Brew, our beloved drink! Once you have used up your 3 strikes, or join the Band's ranks officially, you will face the full force of Band Law like any other Bander does!

 

Of course, we are not all about working 24/7, as we do let our hair down now and then! We are famous for our bar brawls, which happen frequently! Keep an eye out for one! We also like jokes, tales, funny pictures - things that will make us laugh!

 

We also have many games - at DM, which can be found in the stickies, or the Lottery set up in our Dicing with Jak O' the Shadows board, which you will see once you have signed up for the private boards here at DM. There are also several games on the off board site as well! Also, take the lessons to learn our ORG Game, based on the luck of dice! You get the selected weapons of your Regiment, and can fight anyone in the Band! We'll give you a practise fight so you can get your bearing until you are ready to challenge a Bander. Also look out for our festivals of various games using the dice roller and ORG Game. There are many staff members for the Game who will be willing to help you out.

 

Once you have been added to the list for the private boards here, you will also be able to participate in our lottery game, which takes place in the Dicing With Jak O' the Shadows board. It is a lot of fun, and your winnings can buy you various goodies!

 

If you have a Facebook account, search for the group 'DM Band of the Red Hand'. Click to apply. Then PM/email Brid or I to say you've requested to join, and we'll accept it. I'm using Facebook as another way to communicate with Banders!

 

If I have left anything out (which I expect I have!), do not hesitate to ask questions! Someone will be able to answer them for you!
