Well, it is time to conclude the "It's A Knockout" for the Eurovision Song Contest that has been running throughout the month of May. The winners from the Eurovision Song Contest were split between 1956-1982 and 1983 to 2008. From these two threads, the two winning songs will go head to head in order to earn the title of "DM's Best Eurovision Song Contest" winner. And we now have those two songs. The post below will highlight the winning songs.

All you need to do is vote for your favourite out of the two, and the song with the most votes at the end of the voting period will be crowned the champion. Happy voting!

THE GRAND FINAL

WINNER OF 1956-1982 THREAD

Waterloo by ABBA (Sweden - 1974)

Probably one of the greatest songs to win Eurovision. Such a catchy tune, and easily remembered lyrics. It's great to dance to! So many things made it successful. It won with 24 points.

Defeated:

1st Round: Dansevise by Grethe & Jørgen Ingmann (Denmark - 1963) 3-0

2nd Round: Ding-A-Dong by Teach-In (The Netherlands - 1975) 2-0

Semi-Final: Tu te reconnaîtras by Anne-Marie David (Luxembourg - 1973) 2-1

Final: Non ho l'età by Gigliola Cinquetti (Italy - 1964) 2-1

WINNER OF 1983-2008 THREAD

Molitva by Marija Šerifović (Serbia - 2007)

Serbia won at their first attempt (they had been Serbia and Montenegro previously). And a song in the language of the country singing won for the first time since 1998. It was a powerful and emotional song, with a gutsy performance.

Defeated:

1st Round: Nocturne by Secret Garden (Norway - 1995) 2-1

2nd Round: Take Me to Your Heaven by Charlotte Nilsson (Sweden - 1999) 1-0

Semi-Final: The Voice by Eimear Quinn (Ireland - 1996) 3-0

Final: Wild Dances by Ruslana (Ukraine - 2004) 2-1

Molitva

I just don't understand why Waterloo is so popular.  Yeah it's a decent song, but it's nothing special.  it's not even ABBA's best song.  It's pure pop with no deep meaning or anything.  Molitva tugs at your heartstrings and has decent lyrics.  it's a powerful song of pure awesomeness.

I agree with Krak on this one - Molitva. While Waterloo is a great song, Molitva is just so much more powerful.

ABBA. When it comes to Eurovision, there is no song that better defines the competition than this. It is, simply put, the perfect pop song.

I can't see the Molitiva one.   :-\

Evil YouTube!

Anyway, I did leave this run longer than I said it would, only because I was consumed by studying for my exam earlier today.

Anyway, after a quick adding up, Molitva is crowned the Champion after beating ABBA by 3 votes to 1.
