The Star Wars Analogy

"The Light blind you, Ba'alzamon! This has to end!"

IT IS NOT HERE.

It was not Rand's thought, making his skull vibrate.

I WILL TAKE NO PART. ONLY THE CHOSEN ONE CAN DO WHAT MUST BE DONE, IF HE WILL.

"Where?" He did not want to say it, but he could not help himself. "Where?"

The haze surrounding him parted, leaving a dome of clear, clean air ten spans high, walled by billowing smoke and dust. Steps rose before him, each standing alone and unsupported, stretching up into the murk that obscured the sun.

NOT HERE.

I would summarize my argument by saying that the DO is trying to convert Rand to him in this passage. Some say this is the creator, but in all the information we have the DO is the only one to speak in caps. This could be the creator, but the term “chosen” would seem to indicate to me that this is the DO.

I call to mind the idea of the whole Luke Skywalker and the Sith scene where the hooded guy is trying to make Luke into his new pawn and kill Darth Vader.  Is the DO making a contest between these two to see if Rand will become ‘evil’ (and I use the term loosely) enough to kill his apprentice?

Now I go into pure speculation, but maybe the humanity of Rand is what will allow him to defeat the DO. This would go well with the plot, because Soriela and Cadusanne are both trying to teach Rand to be more humane.

This would also suggest that at Armageddon, Mordin and Rand will face each other again, but as Darth Vader was the down fall of the hooded dude, maybe Mordin will become instrumental in the sealing of the DO. Perhaps will the True Power mixed with the One Power? Good with evil, its got a nice balance to it.

There were/are a number of people who thought/think the Dark One was speaking in that scene.

It is doubtful to me that the speaker is the Dark One.

The Dark One seems to speak at only Shayol Ghul.  The location was not there.

And I doubt the Dark One would address Rand in the way the scene describes.

The analogy seems week to me.

The Sith/Emperor was physically at the location; the speaker in Eye of World was only a voice.

In Star Wars, the situation takes place on a spaceship; in the book, the location was a cave like area.

Not doing a very good job.

Why?

the hooded guy
You mean the Emperor?

Shai'tan will have a Death Star! Also, in the Stone of Tear:

MOIRAINE: If you strike me down now, I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

ISHAMAEL ignores her, striking her down on his way to attack Rand.

MOIRAINE: That didn't work as well as I'd hoped.

not sure i get what you mean in the first quote.

the DO uses the term chosen for the forsaken. seems logical to me

If Shai'tan is trying to convert Rand in that scene, He's not trying very hard. No effort is made there to convince Rand to change sides.

But not chosen one. The Chosen are "those chosen to rule the world". Also, it is very out of character for Him to take no part, given that He is trying very hard to play a part throughout the series.
