Howdy. Almost halfway done with the series, should I continue?

Hello everyone!

I'm a pretty big fan of the series so far... It might have already surpassed Lord of the Rings and His Dark Materials for my favorite fantasy series. I finished The Fires of Heaven day before yesterday, and am about 200 pages into Lord of Chaos.

I'm a little worried though; I've heard the series slows down considerably after the 6th book. I've heard that there is just too much going on at once, and the it takes forever for anything to happen.

So my question is, should I continue through to the end of the series, or just read a detailed plot summary or the rest of the books? Are the rest of the books as unbearable as I've been told (I sure hope they aren't)?

:) For me, it was just the frustration that I felt when the storyline of the character I was most interested in didn't progress the way I'd hoped it would. I felt that I'd wasted my money. It took me a while to get over that. And that feeling of disappointment will always color my attitude toward those few books. The storyline of Perrin and Faile is of little interest to me. And though I like Mat better than Perrin, he is of much less interest to me than Rand and the two Towers.

It isn't that they are badly written or anything like that.

Should you continue? Only you can answer that. I did, even though it was some time later. And I was glad that I did.

Allo, dmacfour!

Yes, the latter books do get a bit bogged down... but look at it this way.  The last book is forthcoming, and possibly forthcoming later this year.  Might as well get up to speed on what's out there already to get to the last and final book, right? ;)  As it were, I'm sure some of the frustration you've probably heard from people are long-time readers of the series - some of us have been waiting 10-15+ years for the Last Battle, after all! :D

Welcome to DM!

While the series does slow down (and infuriate readers), Jordan did show his magic again in Knife of Dreams. So if I were you, just keep reading until you reach KoD - it will be worth it! ;) And I am sure that there is important stuff in books 6-10 that will appear in the final installment - but it has been a while since I have read them so I can't remember!

Welcome to the mount!

Yes, the books do get a little slow as it goes on, but that is because there is a lot going on at once, and the charicters get out a little, and for some people some events just are annoying and serve no purpose.

But, if you keep reading it is well worth it in the end.

By all means continue with the series. Some people felt that they slowed down and that there was alot of extra stuff in these later books. I have actually found that since I reread them so often that I have enjoyed the extras since I always seem to get something a little different out of each read. And since I read all the previous books before starting the new one just to make sure I'm caught up it keeps it a fresh read for me.

Enjoy the series.
