After much brain probing, mind controling and twirling of the hair, I had to cease my valiant efforts to withstand the evilness of NICE yet again. *hangs head*

You may (or may not) know the Gray Ajah from the White Towere here at the com side of DM. Well, they're a bunch of great people, led by an equally great Head: Mendorah Sedai! We don't get to hear from her a lot, but when we do, it's a moment to remember. Now, Mendo is one of those people that puts her actions where her mouth is and is one of them silent forces behind the mechanics of many life changing events.

 

Every year, the Gray Ajah champions an event here at the White Tower called Service Month. And each year that is based on a certain theme. This year, the theme is Shelters. In the quote below you find Mendo's own outline of the event and what it all entails.

 

The Kin, being the soddy goody two shoes that we're forced to be *glares at the Joly Twin Elders*, is reaching out and participating in this very worth while event. Twinflower will outline what exactly Kinsters can gain from participation to this event. However, we hope that your participation will not be based on what you can gain, but rather on the shere pleasure of doing so. Knowing the Kinsters, that's sort of a given, but there may be some outsiders *gulp* looking in. They too are very welcome to this event, of course!

 

Now let me make room for Mendo's own words:

 

This year I have a whole month's worth activities scheduled in addition to asking you all to do something good for your communities.  The Theme of the project this year is "Support your Shelters!"  Any kind of shelter will do: animal, children's, women's, homeless.  The point is that if you know of an organization in your area who helps shelter those in need, please join the White Tower in an effort to help out in any way that you can.

 

Starting February 1, 2009, the following is what activities you can expect to see here in the White Tower:

 

Week One:  Welcome and kickoff potluck

Week Two:  What you can do to help a shelter discussions (general discussions on how you can help various shelters)

Week Three:  Pimp your favorite Shelter! (tell us who they are and what they need!)

Week Four:  Let's get together one last time and make a final list of shelters so we can organize them by location and type.  I'll make that list a permanent fixture somewhere that's easily accessable by all for future reference.

 

And in addition, during the entire month of February I will be asking everyone to actually go out and do some good.  In case you are not sure what you can do based on health/financial means/location, Week Two should answer all of your questions.  This year I will not be taking any donations myself, so it will be much easier for you all to just go out in your neighborhoods and do things yourself.  Raising requirement fulfillments are up for grabs for actual donations.  In the case of donations, please e-mail me:  mendorah_sedai@yahoo.com.

 

And speaking of Week Two, I need people to start discussions on these topics.  Raising requirement fulfillments ARE up for grabs for participation in these discussions as well as for participating in Week Three's "Pimp your Favorite Shelter!" and for participating in the final listing of organizations.  I will Open the topic threads for each week's activity and you all are invited to come on in and enjoy the fun and learn something cool!

February being a month of luuuuuuuuuuuuuuurve *glares again at the Joly Twin, suspecting they had something to do with thàt tradition* it is a perfect one for thinking of others in a much broader sense than the ootchi cootchi romance type.

 

So Kinsters, I hope that we will see a really good turn-out at the Gray Ajah's Service Month's event and who knows, maybe some new friendships will be forged in the middle of it all. :D

Actually, Myst brought the idea to us to participate in the Service Project about Shelters.  Its just such a great idea AND  a good fit with the Kin and who and what we are!  I really hope that each and everyone of you will at the very least post once during this month to participate!

 

A great side benefit is that we are going to be visiting!  This is a chance to meet and talk to other DM members that we don't normally interact with.  There are some of us NOT members of the tower!

 

As Mendo's schedule said..this first week will be a potluck to introduce yourself, bring a dish to share and to visit and chat about the topic and get to know each other!  It is on teh public boards here:

Now if you participate in all four weeks...by posting at least once in each weeks thread you will recieve 10 participation points for the month, AND..

 

You will also get 2 extra check in points if you post on the potluck thread and check in there!

 

LOL  that really is just candy for y'all!  As Mystie said..participation in this is about what you'll gain from being there and what you can give and share of yourselves!!

I did in the potluck, but finding it a bit challenging for the second week as I need to think (and that hurts) of something to contribute there. Hopefully other Kinsters find it easier and can inspire me some there!! (also, been out of commission for a week due to being sick, so yeah.)
