In another thread it was mentioned that the Tinkers have interbred with the people that they have contacted over the past few thousand years so that their blood is no longer pure Daishan Aiel.

Has their practice of "The Way of The Leaf" also been diluted from what the Daishan Aiel followed?

I wouldn't say so.  The only thing that really has changed for them is the reaction they get from others.  The way of the leaf used to be an honored way of life; now it is dismissed as an oddity.

The only thing we know of the True *way of the leaf * is what little we glimpse in Rands walk through the Ter'Angreal, and the few snipits we get from a few scenes of the chosen.  We can certintly say that the Tinkers do not follow the True *way of the leaf*, in that the Aiel served Aes Sedai, and to some extent the citizens of the Age of Legends.  The only aspect of the The Way of the leaf they follow is to not do violence, this certianly can not be the only thing that encompases The way of the leaf.

I am sure it has been corrupetd over the years, back in the age of legends no Aiel would have thought to forsake what the Aes Sedai asked them to do.  While Rand was in the Ter'Angreal we seen the Tinkers start, and it started by them forsaking their vows.  So they certianly do not follow the way of the leaf that the Jenn Aiel did.

Also, the Daishan (sp?) Aiel took part in the growing of crops and plants with the Nim tree people. The Tinkers of the current age don't seem to have much of an affinity for growing things. Although, they don't eat any meat so they still have some connection to veggies. ^_^

We have alot of examples of societies in this world that have left nothing but a few buildings but no way of us to know what kind of civilization they were except the rubble. Others left behind hiroglphs, languages on metal, and other forms of communication for us to decipher and learn more about their society, family values, community growth, etc.

I think that if the Tinkers would have had books and knowlege of what the True Way of the Leaf is, they would be following it letter for letter as much as they could.  Its a shame to think of so many things lost both in Randland and our own that we could learn from if it was only written down. :(

* nods in agreement with The Bonz *

Future generations will appreciate the time that we spend recording our accumulated knowledge in DM.  ;D

When I posted this topic, my gut instinct was that the modern day Tinkers must be about as close to the Jenn Aiel as the modern day Aiel are (hardly at all).  They are pacifistic vegetarians who try to follow what they understand as the Way of the Leaf.  I doubt that their practices are very close to what the Daishain Aiel followed.  Just as memory of Manetheren had faded in the Two Rivers, what the Way of the Leaf is must have faded amongst the Tinkers, also...3,000 years is a long time.  The dilution of the blood line had to have had an affect, too.

It will be intersting how this ends, if we indeed get to find out. I am pretty sure we will not get the answer to all of the questions we want.  I do not think book 12 could finish all the loose ties. I know RJ wanted to leave some things unsaid, this very well could be a tie that does not get knoted.

Maybe so Flagg, and I feel you are right, but with it being a continuing part of the story through more than one book, I just hope more will be said. Maybe not the whole story but at least more information.
